  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Athletics' Marcus Semien: Blanked since return

Semien is 0-for-8 with one walk and three strikeouts in his first two games back since missing four contests with a side injury.

That tally includes a particularly rough day in Wednesday's win against the Astros, a game in which Semien struck out thrice in five plate appearances. The veteran shortstop was showing some signs of life at the plate prior to his injury, going 7-for-13 with a double, a home run and two RBI in three of the last four games he played before being sidelined.

  • Jack Mayfield 2B | LAA

    Astros' Jack Mayfield: Starts Wednesday

Mayfield started at third base and went 0-for-1 with a walk in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Athletics.

Mayfield got the start even though Alex Bregman was on the active roster. The Astros are bringing back Bregman from a hamstring injury at a measured pace, and his absence from the starting lineup was part of a predetermined plan.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Fuels Yankees to win

Torres went 2-for-5 with a home run and four total RBI in the Yankees' 7-2 victory over the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

After missing over two weeks with a hamstring injury, Torres left the yard for the first time in four games since his return. It was just Torres' second home run through 94 at-bats in 2020. He averaged a long ball every 17.5 at-bats through his previous two campaigns. Nonetheless, he improved his average to .234 with Wednesday's strong showing.

  • Luis Rengifo 3B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Back from thumb injury

Rengifo (thumb) is starting at second base and batting ninth Wednesday against the Rangers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The 23-year-old hasn't seen the field since Sunday due to the left thumb sprain, but he'll return to the starting nine for Wednesday's contest. Rengifo has a .159/.293/.217 slash line through 83 plate appearances this season.

  • Elvis Andrus 2B | ARI

Rangers' Elvis Andrus: Slugs second homer

Andrus went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in a win over the Angels on Tuesday.

Andrus got the Rangers on the board in the second inning, launching a 415-foot homer to left field off Los Angeles starter Andrew Heaney. It was a rare bright spot in what has been a difficult season for Andrus, who is slashing a meager .177/.240/.292 over 104 plate appearances.

  • Royals' Whit Merrifield: Breaks out with three-run homer

Merriefield went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run, a double and an additional run scored during Tuesday's win over Cleveland.

The 31-year-old entered Tuesday 2-for-34 over his previous eight contests, but he broke out with the third-inning, three-run homer of Jakob Junis. Merrifield has a .253/.303/.443 slash line with eight homers, nine doubles, 25 RBI and seven stolen bases in 43 games this season.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Athletics' Marcus Semien: Sitting Game 2

Semien is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Astros.

The 29-year-old returned from a four-game absence to start Tuesday's matinee, and he went 0-for-4 in the contest. It's not a major surprise to see the A's easing Semien back into action and not having him start both ends of the twin bill. Vimael Machin will take over at shortstop for the nightcap.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Red Sox's Michael Chavis: Not starting nightcap

Chavis is out of the lineup for Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Chavis started in left field for the matinee, going 0-for-4 with one strikeout. Jose Peraza will start in left field for the nightcap, with Jonathan Arauz starting at the keystone.

  • Angels' Franklin Barreto: Lands on injured list

Barreto was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder subluxation, retroactive to Monday.

Barreto hurt his shoulder while sliding into second base Sunday, and he'll head to the injured list so the Angels can bring up depth at second base with Luis Rengifo (thumb) day-to-day. It's unclear whether he'll spend more than the minimum of 10 days on the injured list. Rengifo should see the bulk of playing time at second base when he's healthy, but Matt Thaiss was recalled from alternate camp and will start at second base Tuesday.
