  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Doubles in return

Altuve went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored Tuesday against the Twins.

Altuve was back in the lineup after missing Sunday's game due to a shoulder injury. He led off the seventh inning with a double and came around to score on a two-run homer by Alex Bregman. Altuve has remained a consistent producer, maintaining a .301 average with a homer, seven RBI, 12 runs scored and three stolen bases across 20 games in August.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Resting against lefty

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

The Guardians and Padres are playing a day game after a night game and San Diego is starting southpaw Blake Snell, so Cleveland manager Terry Francona likely viewed Wednesday as an opportune time to give the lefty-hitting Gimenez a breather. Rookie Tyler Freeman will spell the All-Star at the keystone.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Mariners' Adam Frazier: Sitting out Wednesday

Frazier is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

Though a right-hander (Anibal Sanchez) is taking the hill, the lefty-hitting Frazier will get a breather for the day game after a night game. Manager Scott Servais initially planned on resting Frazier on Sunday, but he went on to start his sixth straight game that day -- and a seventh straight in Tuesday's series opener -- due to Sam Haggerty's (shoulder) ongoing absence. Haggerty remains out of the lineup Wednesday, so Dylan Moore will step in for Frazier at the keystone.

  • Sam Haggerty LF | TEX

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Sitting for another game

Haggerty (shoulder) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Nationals, Shannon Drayer of Seattle Sports 710 AM reports.

A left shoulder injury will keep Haggerty on the bench for a fourth straight game, but because he was used as a pinch runner in Sunday's 5-3 loss to Oakland, the Mariners seemingly aren't expecting him to require a stint on the injured list. While Haggerty is sitting Wednesday, Mitch Haniger will man right field, opening up the designated-hitter spot for Carlos Santana.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Swipes bag in win

Torres went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 victory against the Mets.

Torres has struggled through much of August, posting a .179/.200/.269 slash line over 20 contests. However, he's been perking up a bit of late, batting .258 with two homers in his past eight games. Torres has struck out at a 34.4 percent rate over that stretch, however, which is well above his 22 percent strikeout rate on the season.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Homers and triples in loss

Semien went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI triple and an additional run in a 7-6 loss to the Rockies on Tuesday.

Semien has struggled to hit for average and reach base recently, as evidenced by his .211 average and .267 on-base percentage in August. However, Semien has shown some pop and now has six home runs this month, pushing his season total to 20. However, his overall production is down dramatically from his career-best 2021, as he's still sporting a middling .236/.295/.411 slash line.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Slides to shortstop

Hernandez moved from center field to shortstop after Xander Bogaerts left Tuesday's game due to back spasms.

It's unclear how much time Bogaerts will miss -- he will not play Wednesday -- and the injury could present more shortstop starts for Hernandez. He's made three starts at the position in 2022 after making a combined 52 at shortstop and second base in 2021.

  • Andres Gimenez SS | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Smacks 15th homer

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Padres.

Gimenez's fifth-inning blast off Mike Clevinger was ultimately all the Guardians needed to win. Through 19 games in August, Gimenez has gone 25-for-67 (.373) with three homers, seven steals, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored. The strong month has lifted his season slash line to .309/.375/.501 with 15 homers, 59 RBI, 49 runs scored and 15 stolen bases through 109 contests.

  • Owen Miller 2B | CHC

Guardians' Owen Miller: Remains on bench Tuesday

Miller is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game at San Diego.

Miller has a .542 OPS in August and finds himself on the bench for the second consecutive contest. Josh Naylor will move to first base while Richie Palacios serves as the designated hitter.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Losing work to Jackie Bradley

Merrifield is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Red Sox.

Even though George Springer hasn't played the outfield since late July, Merrifield hasn't been able to gain traction as the Blue Jays' everyday option in center field. Jackie Bradley seems to have emerged as the team's preferred center fielder at the moment, as he'll occupy the position for the third straight contest. Until Springer is ready to play center field again while he works past a knee injury, the lefty-hitting Bradley and righty-hitting Merrifield could form a platoon at the position.
