  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Stays hot with homer

Torres went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a 7-5 victory over the Red Sox on Saturday.

Torres has been swinging a hot bat of late, and he now has five home runs in his last dozen games. The 25-year-old second baseman is slashing an excellent .312/.391/.597 over 77 at-bats in September.

  • Tigers' Harold Castro: Snaps slump with three hits

Castro went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in a 7-2 win over the White Sox on Saturday.

Castro got Detroit off to a strong start, swatting a two-run homer to right field in the first inning. He added a run-scoring single in the fifth inning to break a 2-2 tie and put the Tigers up for good. This was a much-needed positive performance for the utility man, as he entered Saturday having gone 1-for-24 over his previous seven contests.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Hits 24th homer

Semien went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Guardians. He also drew a walk.

Semien jumped on a curveball left over the plate by Cal Quantrill in the third inning and crushed it over the wall in center field to put the Rangers on the board. The second baseman drew a walk in his next at-bat and later added a single to give him his 10th multi-hit game this month. He also has four home runs in September to go along with 10 doubles, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Won't return in 2022

Lowe (back) has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports.

Lowe has been sidelined with back inflammation since Sept. 12, and he received an injection Tuesday. The Rays hoped that he would be able to return prior to the end of the regular season, but he'll ultimately be held out down the stretch. It's not yet clear whether Lowe's offseason program will be significantly impacted by his injury.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Mariners' Adam Frazier: Out of lineup

Frazier will sit Saturday against the Royals.

Frazier has hit just .175/.242/.228 since the start of September. Dylan Moore will take over at second base in his absence.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

White Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Remains on bench

Gonzalez will sit for the second straight game Saturday against the Tigers.

Gonzalez has been the White Sox's primary second baseman since late August, but his playing time may be slipping. Going 2-for-25 with 11 strikeouts over his last nine games presumably isn't helping his case for starts. Josh Harrison will handle the keystone Saturday.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Resting Saturday

Biggio isn't starting Saturday against Tampa Bay.

Although the Blue Jays are facing a right-hander (Drew Rasmussen) during Saturday's matchup, Biggio will retreat to the bench once again. Whit Merrifield is starting at second base and appears to be the preferred option at the keystone while Santiago Espinal (oblique) is sidelined.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Out of lineup

Massey will sit Saturday against Seattle.

Massey has been starting regularly since early August, but he now finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games. His .248/.323/.362 line through his first 44 major-league games doesn't make a great case for everyday at-bats, and he's gone just 1-for-16 with seven strikeouts in his last four appearances. Nicky Lopez will start at second base Saturday.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Picks up steal

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with an RBI, a stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.

Gimenez has had a good week, going 8-for-20 with five RBI, four runs and a steal in his last five games. The speedy infielder is up to 19 steals this year, matching his total from the previous two years combined. He's added a .302/.374/.473 slash line with 16 home runs, 67 RBI, 63 runs scored, 25 doubles and three triples in 138 contests.

  • Ernie Clement SS | TOR

Athletics' Ernie Clement: Activated by Athletics

Clement was added to the Athletics' active roster Saturday.

The 26-year-old was claimed off waivers by Oakland on Friday and will join the active roster a day later after Sheldon Neuse was designated for assignment. Clement hit .200 with 18 runs and six RBI over 64 games with the Guardians earlier in the year, and he should serve as a utility man with his new club.
