  • Sam Haggerty LF | TEX

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Could return Saturday

Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto said Wednesday that he expects Haggerty (concussion) to return to from the 7-day injured list Saturday, Jen Mueller of Root Sports Northwest reports.

Haggerty was placed on IL on Monday, three days after he sustained the head injury while diving for a groundball in a game against the Rockies. Assuming he's activated this weekend, the 28-year-old should settle back into a utility role and should continue to see regular playing time against left-handed pitching.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Sits versus lefty

Kemp is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The lefty-hitting Kemp will head to the bench with Chicago bringing southpaw Justin Steele to the hill in the series finale. Rookie Jordan Diaz, who was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, will fill in for Kemp at second base Wednesday.

  • Jordan Diaz 3B | ATH

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Called up, starting Wednesday

The Athletics recalled Diaz from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday. He'll start at second base and bat eighth in the series finale with the Cubs.

The righty-hitting Diaz will immediately enter the lineup with the Cubs bringing southpaw Justin Steele to the hill Wednesday. Given the lack of productive bats in the Oakland lineup, it's not difficult to envision Diaz carving out a full-time role versus right-handed pitching as well if he's able to capitalize in his early opportunities in the majors. After getting a brief cup of coffee in the majors in 2022, Diaz opened the campaign at Triple-A and slashed .273/.319/.455 with one home run and eight RBI over 47 plate appearances for the affiliate prior to getting the call back to the big club.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Remains out with hamstring injury

Arroyo (hamstring) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.

Arroyo will be on the bench for the second game in a row due to hamstring tightness and is unlikely to be ready to play in Thursday's series finale. With Arroyo banged up and Yu Chang (personal) on paternity leave, the Red Sox called up Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday to restore some depth in the infield. Valdez will make his MLB debut against the Twins, manning second base while batting eighth.

  • Jose Caballero 2B | NYY

Mariners' Jose Caballero: Draws first MLB start

Caballero drew his first major-league start in Tuesday's extra-innings loss to the Brewers and went 0-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base.

Caballero was just summoned from Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday and made his big-league debut as a defensive replacement the same day against the Rockies. He slotted into the No. 8 spot in the order while starting at shortstop Tuesday and was able to make some modest contributions during his first plate appearance. Caballero was off to a great start with the Rainiers before the promotion (.333 average, 1.143 OPS in 40 plate appearances), but he's believed to be in for a brief stint with the Mariners while Sam Haggerty (concussion) goes through a 7-day IL stint.

  • Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Gets big-league call-up

The Red Sox will call up Valdez from Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Valdez is getting his first taste of the big leagues after Boston placed infielder Yu Chang on the paternity list prior to Wednesday's game against the Twins. The 24-year-old Valdez, who was hitting just .179 over 11 games at Worcester, will provide Boston with some added infield depth while Chang is away from the club for the next 1-to-3 days.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

    Royals' Nicky Lopez: Sitting Wednesday

Lopez will sit Wednesday against the Rangers.

After going 4-for-18 with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored while starting the last six games, Lopez will get a breather in Wednesday's series finale with Texas. Matt Duffy will take over at second base and bat seventh versus the Rangers.

  • Marcus Semien 2B | NYM

Rangers' Marcus Semien: Goes deep again Tuesday

Semien went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, two walks and two runs scored in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the Royals.

Semien has now homered in three straight games after he sent a towering three-run blast to left field, No. 4 overall this season. He's been in a nice groove at the plate, slashing .333/.415/.667 with 13 RBI, 12 runs and a 5:4 BB:K over his last nine games. The power wasn't as evident at this time last year as it took him 43 games to hit his first home run, but he's certainly found his power stroke and will look to keep things going.

  • Jordan Diaz 3B | ATH

Athletics' Jordan Diaz: Call-up from Triple-A coming

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said after Tuesday's 4-0 loss to the Cubs that Diaz will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Diaz has hit .273/.319/.455 over 11 games in the Pacific Coast League to open the season, and the 22-year-old infielder held his own with a .265/.294/.327 slash line in 15 games with the Athletics in 2022. The 22-year-old may get a look in a regular role at second base, third base or designated hitter while he's up with Oakland, but he's more a long-term fantasy option than someone managers should consider adding to their roster immediately.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Likely out for series

Arroyo could miss the entirety of Boston's series against Minnesota due to hamstring tightness, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Arroyo exited Monday's game against the Angels due to lower-body cramping, and it now seems that his hamstring is what's giving him problems. If Arroyo is forced to sit out multiple games, Enrique Hernandez and Yu Chang will likely see more time together in the middle of Boston's infield.
