  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Mariners' Josh Rojas: On bench Tuesday

Rojas is absent from the lineup Tuesday against the Padres.

Dylan Moore will start at second base and bat ninth versus the Padres and right-hander Nick Martinez. Rojas has gone 0-for-9 with three strikeouts and zero walks since joining the Mariners in a July 31 trade from the Diamondbacks.

  • Luis Urias 2B | ATH

Red Sox's Luis Urias: Takes seat Tuesday

Urias is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Royals.

Urias had made four straight starts at second base since officially joining the Red Sox on Friday, but Pablo Reyes will take a turn there Tuesday versus the Royals and right-hander Brady Singer. Urias is 4-for-14 (.286) so far with Boston.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Orioles' Adam Frazier: Sits with jammed thumb

Frazier is out of the lineup Tuesday versus the Astros due to a jammed thumb, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Frazier jammed the thumb last week in Toronto and has been trying to play through it. He's getting treatment Tuesday and is expected to be ready to return to action Wednesday.

  • Edouard Julien 2B | COL

Twins' Edouard Julien: On bench again versus lefty

Julien is not in the lineup for Tuesday's contest in Detroit.

The Tigers are starting a lefty for the second day in a row, so Julien will again begin this one on the bench. Jorge Polanco will occupy second base, with Kyle Farmer covering third.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Goes deep Monday

Biggio went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a 3-1 win against the Guardians on Monday.

In a contest that featured little offense, Biggio provided the biggest hit with a two-run shot in the eighth inning that broke a scoreless tie. The long ball snapped a 20-game homerless streak for Biggio that dated back to June 25. It's been a mostly forgettable campaign for the 28-year-old, as he's slashing a quiet .213/.295/.396 with eight homers, 22 RBI, 29 runs and three stolen bases over 183 plate appearances.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: Hitless in return

Kemp (rib) went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored in Monday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers.

Kemp left Wednesday's game with a rib issue but was able to return after missing a handful of games. He got the start in left field and played all nine defensive innings there before Esteury Ruiz hit for him in the bottom of the ninth. Kemp should be good to resume his usual role going forward. He's slashing .215/.304/.308 with three home runs, 22 RBI, 34 runs scored and a career-high 12 stolen bases through 91 contests.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Gets day off

Merrifield is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Merrifield will get his first day off since July 1, joining Kevin Kiermaier (elbow), Alejandro Kirk and Santiago Espinal as the Blue Jays' reserve position players for the series opener. With Merrifield resting, Cavan Biggio will enter the lineup at second base while rookie Davis Schneider starts in left field and takes over as the Blue Jays' leadoff hitter.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

    Athletics' Tony Kemp: Rejoins lineup

Kemp (rib) is in the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Kemp has not started a game since leaving last Wednesday's contest with a rib issue, but that streak will come to an end Monday. He will start in left field and occupy the eighth spot in Oakland's batting order.

  • Isan Diaz 2B | DET

Tigers' Isan Diaz: Claimed off waivers and optioned

The Tigers claimed Diaz off waivers from the Giants on Monday and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo.

Diaz appeared in just six big-league games with the Giants this season, but he should have a clearer path to resurfacing in the majors with a Detroit squad that has struggled to generate production from most of its starting infielders throughout the season. He'll look to get off to a good start with Toledo before potentially getting the call to Detroit at some point in the next two months. In a corresponding move, the Tigers designated left-hander Zach Logue for assignment.

  • Andy Ibanez 2B | NYM

Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Goes to bench Monday

Ibanez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Twins.

Nick Maton will get the starting nod at second base in the series opener versus Minnesota, but Ibanez manned the keystone for each of the previous three games and appears to be Detroit's preferred option at the position. Ibanez closed the weekend series with the Rays with a pair of two-hit games and is now batting .288 since the All-Star break.
