  • Zack Gelof 2B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Rare multi-hit effort Wednesday

Gelof went 2-for-5 with a game-tying RBI single in an extra-innings loss to the Rockies on Wednesday.

After knotting the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth with his timely knock, Gelof also drove in Shea Langeliers during the 12th but didn't get credited with an RBI since it was a double-play groundout. Nevertheless, Gelof did extend his on-base streak to four games with his multi-hit effort, his first since April 21. Despite the recent modest success, Gelof's slash line sits at a paltry .192/.260/.308 across 132 plate appearances, with a strikeout rate that's shot up from a rookie figure of 27.3 percent to 34.1 percent partly to blame for his struggles.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

White Sox's Nicky Lopez: Strong series against Jays

Lopez went 2-for-4 with a run scored Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Lopez had a strong series against Toronto, as he collected six hits across 12 at-bats with an RBI and a run scored. He entered the three-game set having hit just .171 with one extra-base hit across his first 11 games in May. Lopez is still hitting only .223/.284/.238 with two stolen bases across 145 plate appearances for the season.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Getting rest Thursday

Polanco is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Yankees.

After missing seven consecutive starts due to a right hamstring injury, Polanco made his return to the lineup in Wednesday's 7-3 loss, starting at second base while going 0-for-4 with a strikeout. The Mariners haven't indicated that Polanco experienced a setback with his hamstring Wednesday, so his absence Thursday is likely just a matter of maintenance due to the quick turnaround for the series finale, which begins at 12:35 p.m. ET. Dylan Moore will fill in for Polanco at the keystone.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Hitless in return

Polanco (hamstring) went 0-for-4 with one strikeout in Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Yankees.

This was Polanco's first game action since he suffered the injury May 13 versus the Royals. The infielder is down to a .187/.291/.300 slash line with five home runs, 13 RBI, 15 runs scored and one stolen base over 172 plate appearances. While he has yet to get his bat going in his first season with the Mariners, he's likely to reclaim a starting role at second base. If he can't start hitting better, Polanco could be pressured for playing time by Josh Rojas and Dylan Moore now that the Seattle lineup is at full health.

  • Kyren Paris SS | LAA

Angels' Kyren Paris: Launches first career homer

Paris went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Astros.

The 22-year-old gave the Angels all the offense they would need on the afternoon when he took Hunter Brown deep in the fifth inning. It was Paris' first career big-league homer in his 26th game, and while power isn't a big part of his game, he did slug 14 home runs in 113 contests for Double-A Rocket City in 2023. Paris got the start at second base Wednesday but slid over to shortstop, and he could be looking at a longer run at the latter position if Zach Neto (elbow) winds up missing significant time.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Launches clutch three-run homer

Gimenez went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Mets.

Gimenez provided a key blast in Cleveland's comeback victory, ripping a three-run homer off Jose Quintana with two outs in the sixth inning to tie the game 3-3. While the long ball was Gimenez's lone hit in the three-game series, he's gone 14-for-39 (.359) with three homers in his last 10 contests. The 25-year-old second baseman is now slashing .266/.327/.386 with four homers, 30 RBI, 28 runs scored and seven steals across 47 games this season.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Back in Seattle lineup

Polanco (hamstring) will start at second base and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Polanco missed more than a week with a right hamstring injury, though he has been available off the bench for a couple days. The switch-hitter is sporting a disappointing .192/.298/.308 in his first season with the Mariners.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Exits starting nine Wednesday

Mateo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

After playing the final three innings of Tuesday's suspended game earlier Wednesday and finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI double in Baltimore's 3-1 loss, Mateo will get a breather for the regularly scheduled game. Jordan Westburg will shift over from third base and man the keystone in place of Mateo, whose streak of seven consecutive starts comes to an end.

  • Luis Guillorme 3B | HOU

    Angels' Luis Guillorme: Sitting Wednesday

Guillorme is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

After he was acquired from Atlanta on May 9, Guillorme picked up starts in five of his first seven games with the Angels. He seems to have since moved into a utility role with Luis Rengifo returning from the injured list and taking on everyday duties at third base and with prospect Kyren Paris getting called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to serve as the team's main option at second base. Paris is hitting just .111 since his promotion, so it may not be long before the Angels pull the plug on the rookie and give Guillorme more playing time at the keystone.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Athletics' Abraham Toro: Supplies game-winning home run

Toro went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-4 win over the Rockies.

Toro's bat was silent until the eighth inning when he sent out a home run to right field to give the A's their first lead of the night. He's racked up seven hits over his last five games and leads the majors with 28 hits in the month of May. Since April 26, Toro is slashing .362/.406/.553 with three homers, 10 RBI, 17 runs and a 4:16 BB:K in 101 plate appearances.
