  • Angels' Brandon Drury: Resumes playing field

Drury (hamstring) played second base in a rehab game with Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

This was Drury's fourth rehab game, but he had served as the designated hitter in each of the previous three contests. The veteran infielder is working his way back from a left hamstring injury that has kept him from competing for the Angels since May 8. Drury has gone 5-for-13 with three walks and an RBI in his rehab stint thus far and appears very close to rejoining the big-league club.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | CHC

White Sox's Nicky Lopez: On bench Saturday

Lopez is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks.

The White Sox will turn to Danny Mendick at second base Saturday with southpaw Tommy Henry expected to pitch in bulk relief for Arizona. Lopez is batting .244 with a pair of RBI over 10 games in June.

  • Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Idle versus left-hander

Valdez will sit Saturday versus the Yankees.

Valdez will take a seat as the Red Sox face left-hander Carlos Rodon. Jamie Westbrook will enter the lineup at second base, batting seventh against New York.

  • Jorge Mateo SS | ATL

    Orioles' Jorge Mateo: Breather Saturday

Mateo is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Phillies, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Mateo will take a seat after he went 2-for-13 with a three-run home run, two runs scored and a stolen base while starting four consecutive games after being activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday. Jordan Westburg will slide over to second base while Ramon Urias enters the lineup at third base and bats ninth against Philadelphia.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Adds steal Friday

Gimenez went 2-for-4 with one RBI and a stolen base in Friday's 3-1 win over the Blue Jays.

Gimenez has two steals over his last three games, giving him 11 thefts on the year. The second baseman has struggled at the plate in June, batting .206 (7-for-34) over eight contests, but he continues to see a starting role even after a recent run of the Guardians facing four left-handed starters in a six-game span. For the season, Gimenez is slashing .266/.320/.363 with four home runs, 35 RBI, 35 runs scored, 10 doubles and one triple.

  • Zack Gelof 2B | ATH

    Athletics' Zack Gelof: Sitting Saturday

Gelof is not in the starting lineup Saturday against the Twins.

Gelof will take a seat after going 0-for-6 with a walk and three strikeouts over the first two games of the series. Abraham Toro will slide over to second base while J.D. Davis enters the lineup at the hot corner, batting sixth versus Minnesota.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Sitting against lefty

Lowe is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.

Lowe will dodge a matchup with southpaw Chris Sale on Friday. Instead, Jose Caballero will bat eighth and play second base. Lowe has produced multiple hits in three of his last eight games with a pair of homers during that stretch.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Royals' Adam Frazier: Back from bereavement list

The Royals reinstated Frazier (personal) from the bereavement list Friday.

The 32-year-old has been away from the team for the past few days to tend to personal matters but is now back with the Royals. Frazier hasn't been operating in an everyday role but has been a solid contributor since the start of May with a .266/.329/.422 slash line in 24 games.

  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: On verge of rehab assignment

Polanco (hamstring) is slated to run the bases before Thursday's game against the White Sox and then head out on a rehab assignment, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.

Polanco has been progressively ramping up his level of activity in recent days, apparently without any setbacks. MLB.com reports that general manager Justin Hollander indicated team trainers would jointly assess Polanco's condition with the veteran infielder following Thursday's activity, at which point the length of the rehab assignment would likely be determined.

  • Zack Gelof 2B | ATH

Athletics' Zack Gelof: Timely double in loss

Gelof went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday.

Gelof's eighth-inning two-bagger brought home Seth Brown to extend the Athletics' lead to 4-2 at the time. The infielder now has a trio of two-hit efforts in the last seven games, but his 33.3 percent strikeout rate in that same span is emblematic of the persistent struggles that have led to his .194 average and .572 OPS across 203 plate appearances this season.
