  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Marlins' Yuli Gurriel: Returns to bench with Cooper back

Gurriel is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Gurriel had started 10 of the Marlins' last 11 games at first base, slashing just .175/.227/.300 with a home run, three RBI and two runs over that stretch. He'll likely see his playing time take a significant hit moving forward after the Marlins reinstated Garrett Cooper (ear) from the 10-day injured list Sunday and reinstalled him as their everyday first baseman.

Marlins' Garrett Cooper: Activated off injured list

The Marlins reinstated Cooper (ear) from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Cooper is hitting second and playing first base against the Reds on Sunday in his return from the IL. The first baseman missed just over the minimum 10 days while recovering from an inner ear infection. He should return to regular playing time at first base with some designated hitter duties sprinkled in.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Goes yard twice in rout

Kirilloff went 3-for-3 with a double, two solo home runs and a third run scored in Saturday's 11-1 win over the Cubs.

The 25-year-old got the rout started with a solo shot off Hayden Wesneski in the first inning before tagging the right-hander again in the third. The long balls were the first of the season for Kirilloff, and in seven games since making his 2023 debut he's batting .438 (7-for-16), making the Twins look very smart for being cautious with his return from wrist surgery.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Clubs go-ahead home run

Naylor went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer in Saturday's 8-6 victory over the Angels.

Naylor hit a home run for the second straight game, taking right-hander Ryan Tepera deep for a three-run shot that scored Jose Ramirez and Tyler Freeman while giving the Guardians a 7-6 advantage in the eighth. Four of Naylor's five homers and all four of his doubles this season have come against right-handers, while he owns a measly .156/.206/.250 slash line against lefties. Due to his uneven splits, Naylor best serves as a matchup-based streaming option and daily fantasy value for those who want to chase home runs.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Tallies 19th RBI

Cron went 1-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI on Saturday against the Phillies.

Cron drove in his 19th run of the season with a double in the third inning and later came around to score. He now has at least one hit in 10 of his last 13 games, also tallying nine RBI and eight runs scored in that span. Despite the strong stretch, Cron has maintained an underwhelming .231/.281/.433 line -- totaling a 76 wRC+ -- across 146 plate appearances on the campaign.

  • Nate Lowe DH | CIN

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Swats fifth homer

Lowe went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Saturday's victory over the Athletics.

Lowe made an immediate impact on the game, driving in Marcus Semien on a first-inning single to extend his hit streak to 12 games. He caught James Kaprielian once again in the fourth inning, smacking a leadoff solo homer to extend the Rangers' lead to 3-0. Despite the lengthy hit streak, Saturday's home run was Lowe's first since April 30. The first basemen has been very productive in 2023, owning the 10th most runs scored in MLB while also being top 25 in RBI.

  • Triston Casas 1B | BOS

Red Sox's Triston Casas: Sits against lety

Casas will be on the bench against southpaw Steven Matz and the Cardinals on Saturday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Casas technically got a start against a lefty on Wednesday, but Dylan Lee was merely an opener for Atlanta on that occasion. Prior to that, Casas had sat against five straight southpaws, and it seems as though his platoon role is still in place. Given that he's hitting .180/.317/.370 overall even while largely being protected from facing same-sided pitching, it's unlikely Casas' role expands any time soon. As usual, Justin Turner will be the first baseman in his absence.

  • LaMonte Wade LF | HOU

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Three hits, two runs in loss

Wade went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Wade's been hot in May, hitting .343 with three extra-base hits, six RBI and seven runs scored in 11 games. The 29-year-old has seen a majority of the playing time at first base lately, and he's settled in as the Giants' primary leadoff hitter versus right-handed pitchers. For the season, Wade owns a .276/.437/.533 slash line with seven home runs, 14 RBI, 17 runs scored and a stolen base through 36 contests.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Crushes seventh homer

Freeman went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Friday's 4-2 win over San Diego.

Freeman's seventh-inning shot to right field extended the Dodgers' lead to 4-2. The six-time All-Star has a strong slash line of .297/.369/.510 through 39 games. The first baseman is also on pace to hit more homers than he did last season (21).

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Goes yard twice in win

Rizzo went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 6-5 win over the Rays.

The veteran first baseman played hero for the Yankees on his own bobblehead night, taking Tampa Bay opener Trevor Kelley deep for a solo shot in the first inning before launching what proved to be the game-winning, two-run blast in the eighth off Jason Adam. Rizzo has caught fire in May, delivering six multi-hit performances in the last 10 games and batting .375 (15-for-40) with three of his eight homers on the year over that stretch.
