  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Goes deep, swipes bag

Naylor went 1-for-3 with a solo homer, a second run scored, two walks and a steal in Friday's loss to the Angels.

Naylor saved his only hit of the game for a big moment, briefly putting Cleveland on top with his solo shot in the eighth. He had gone 7-for-39 (.179) since his last home run April 26. He's now slashing .195/.258/.331 on the year with eight extra-base hits (four doubles, four homers) and three steals through 132 plate appearances this season.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Out of lineup Friday

Pasquantino is not in the lineup Friday against the Brewers.

Pasquantino went 7-for-18 (.389) with a homer and two doubles during the Royals' last series versus the White Sox, so this is presumably just a day of rest. Salvador Perez is taking a turn in the designated hitter role while Nick Pratto will cover first base against the Brewers and right-hander Corbin Burnes.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Sitting against lefty

Kirilloff is out of the lineup Friday against the Cubs, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Donovan Solano is playing first base and batting second versus the Cubs and left-hander Drew Smyly. Kirilloff, a left-handed hitter, has yet to start against a southpaw since his return to the Twins' major-league roster earlier this month.

  • Gabriel Arias SS | CLE

Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Gets start in right field

Arias is starting in right field and batting sixth for the Guardians on Friday against the Angels.

The 23-year-old has been seeing regular work in right as Will Brennan's platoon partner versus lefties since Oscar Gonzalez was sent down. Arias is slashing just .204/.278/.306 this season, which unfortunately means he fits right in with the rest of the scuffling Cleveland offense.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Extends hit streak

Lowe went 1-for-4 with a triple in Thursday's 4-0 win over Oakland.

Lowe's triple, his first of the season, extended his hitting streak to 10 games and on-base streak to 15. The first baseman has an .870 OPS during the latter, going 16-for-57 (.281) with seven extra-base hits and eight walks while knocking in nine and scoring 11 runs. The durable Lowe has played all 37 games in 2023 after appearing in 157 games each of the last two seasons.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Nine-game hitting streak

Diaz went 1-for-5 with a double and an RBI on Thursday against the Yankees.

Diaz pulled a ball down the third base line in the fifth inning to tally an RBI double. The knock also extended his hitting streak to nine games, during which he's hit .305 with two home runs, four RBI and seven runs scored. Diaz has had a great start to the season, highlighted by a .262 ISO and .432 wOBA across 152 plate appearances.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Hits fifth homer

Steer went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 5-0 victory versus the Mets.

Steer capped the scoring in the win with a 427-foot solo shot in the fifth inning. The long ball was the rookie's third through nine games in May after he went deep just twice across his first 25 contest of the campaign. He's slashing .244/.322/.433 with five homers, 13 RBI, 17 runs and one stolen base over 143 plate appearances overall.

  • Ryan Noda 1B | BAL

Athletics' Ryan Noda: Maintains elite on-base presence

Noda went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks in a loss to the Yankees on Wednesday.

Noda's busy offensive day was an extension of a season-long trend, as he now carries an elite .429 on-base percentage across 119 plate appearances. The 27-year-old's two-bagger was also his 12th extra-base hit among 22 total knocks, which has helped him to an .885 OPS despite a middling .244 average.

  • Royals' Vinnie Pasquantino: Stays hot Wednesday

Pasquantino went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-1 win over the White Sox.

Pasquantino has gone 7-for-14 with three extra-base hits over his last three games and now has five multi-hit efforts in his last 10 contests. The 25-year-old is up to a .298/.383/.539 slash line with seven home runs, 19 RBI, 20 runs scored and 13 doubles in 38 games this season. While most of his profile resembles what he did in 72 contests as a rookie last year, he's added 89 points to his slugging percentage, showing a notable increase in power.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: To take live BP at Triple-A

Reds manager David Bell said Thursday that Votto (shoulder) will begin taking live batting practice this weekend at Triple-A Louisville, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

It's not an actual minor-league rehab assignment just yet, but that could happen sometime next week if Votto looks good in during the weekend workouts against live pitching. He tried a rehab stint with Louisville in April but went 7-for-38 (.184) with 21 strikeouts in 10 games while also struggling defensively. The veteran first baseman is on the road back from surgery last August to repair tears in his left rotator cuff and biceps muscle.
