Abreu (infection) was released from the hospital Wednesday but remains unavailable, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Abreu had been in the hospital since Monday while being treated for an infection on his thigh. He'll remain unavailable for the duration of the series against Cleveland but could return Friday against the Cubs.

Goldschmidt is out of the lineup against the Cubs on Wednesday.

Manager Torey Lovullo appears to be waving the white flag on his team's season, as he has elected to rest most of Arizona's regulars for the series finale versus Chicago. In Goldschmidt's place, Christian Walker will start at first base.

Flores was sent back to New York to get both knees examined after experiencing bilateral knee pain in recent days, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.

Flores hasn't started a game since Sept. 13 which is likely a result of the lingering pain in both of his knees. After the Mets finish up their series in Philadelphia on Thursday, they will begin a three-game set versus the Nationals in Washington, so it's unlikely that Flores returns to action this weekend. There's a good chance the club will elect to shut him down for the rest of the season prior to its final homestand starting Tuesday, but more should be known following the results of his tests.

Cabrera (calf) is out of the lineup against the Mets on Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.

Cabrera will remain sidelined for the second straight day after leaving Monday's contest with a left calf strain. In his place, J.P. Crawford will start at shortstop and bat eighth in the order. Consider Cabrera day-to-day heading into Thursday's series opener in Atlanta.

Shaw went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run Monday in the Giants' 4-2 win over the Padres.

After managing just one hit over his first 22 at-bats in the majors, Shaw has now turned in back-to-back multi-hit outings. Prior to getting called up from Triple-A Sacramento at the beginning of the month, the 24-year-old showed some intriguing pop during his time in the minors, clubbing 24 home runs and 21 doubles across 422 plate appearances. He put some of that power potential on display Monday, but Shaw will need to cut down on strikeouts in order to make a consistent impact for the Giants over the final two weeks.

It's unclear when Cabrera suffered the injury, but given the nature of the injury, he'll likely be forced to miss at least a few games. His availability moving forward will be determined after further evaluation Tuesday.

Olson went 2-for-3 with a walk in a loss to the Rays on Sunday.

Olson continued to swing a hot bat through the entirety of the three-game set versus Tampa, and he's now hit safely in five straight games overall. That stretch includes back-to-back two-hit efforts, and his consistency at the plate throughout the month has helped lead to an impressive .311 September average.
