Cabrera is not in Friday's lineup against the Braves.

He had started three straight games before sitting for a second game in a row. Both of his off days have come against southpaws, so it seems like Cabrera is occupying the strong side of a second base platoon. Howie Kendrick will start at the keystone and hit second.

Goldschmidt went 2-for-3 with an RBI infield single, a walk and two runs in a win over the Giants on Thursday.

Goldschmidt turned in a solid performance from the third spot in the order, churning out his second straight multi-hit effort in the process. The veteran has yet to leave the yard over the first five games of September, but he's quickly compiled six RBI with the help of a pair of doubles and a triple.

Dixon went 1-for-3 with a walk and solo home run Thursday against the Royals.

Dixon began a power barrage for the Tigers in the fourth inning, taking Glenn Sparkman deep for his 15th home run of the season. He hasn't served as an everyday starter for the Tigers of late, sitting in three of the team's past seven games. Despite that, he's been on a decent run in that span, collecting two multi-hit games while also smacking three doubles, driving in four, and scoring two runs. Overall, Dixon has managed a .250/.291/.451 line across 374 plate appearances this season.

Manager Alex Cora said the Red Sox are not considering promoting Dalbec, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Even with Michael Chavis (shoulder/side) expected to miss the remainder of the season, it sounds like the Red Sox are content finishing out the season with Brock Holt and Marco Hernandez as their options at the keystone. Thus, the 24-year-old Dalbec, who is slashing .239/.356/.460 with 27 home runs and 73 RBI between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Pawtucket this season (135 games), will likely have to wait until 2020 to make his big-league debut.

Cabrera is not in the lineup Thursday against the Braves.

Cabrera will head to the bench for Thursday's series opener after starting the past three games at the keystone and going 4-for-12 with a double, a home run and four RBI. Brian Dozier is starting at second base in his place in this one.

O'Hearn is not in Thursday's lineup against the Tigers.

He will predictably head to the bench with southpaw Matthew Boyd starting for the Tigers. Ryan McBroom will start at first base and hit fifth.

Abreu is not in Thursday's lineup against the Indians.

He is hitting .316 with one home run in 38 at-bats over his last 10 games. Zack Collins will start at first base and hit sixth.

Votto is not in Thursday's lineup against the Phillies.

He is hitting .263 with two home runs in 10 games since coming off the injured list. Josh VanMeter will start at first base and hit eighth.

Blandino (face) is starting at second base and leading off Thursday against the Phillies.

He left Wednesday's game after getting hit by a pitch near his face, but it grazed his shoulder first, and apparently it was insignificant enough that he was able to get right back in the lineup for this day game. Blandino is hitless in four at-bats since joining the big-league club Sept. 1.

Flores started against a right-hander and went 1-for-4 in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Padres.

Flores has been a lineup regular against left-handed starters, but his hot hitting, coupled with the struggles of Jake Lamb, has prompted manager Torey Lovullo to re-think the deployment of Flores, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. On Wednesday, the manager walked back comments he made last week about the infielder's ability to play an expanded role and then put him in the lineup in place of Lamb against San Diego right-hander Chris Paddack. "We'll see how that plays out over the next couple days," Lovullo said prior to Wednesday's series finale against the Padres, in which Flores started at second base and batted fifth. "I'm thinking about it for right now." Since returning from a foot injury July 19, Flores has hit .380/.424/.633 over 79 at-bats. During the same time frame, Lamb slashed .176/.290/.330 over 91 at-bats.
