  • Matt Mervis 1B | MIA

Marlins' Matt Mervis: Likely losing roster spot

Mervis is expected to be designated for assignment by the Marlins ahead of Friday's series opener against the Giants, Craig Mish of the Miami Herald reports.

Mervis was acquired from the Cubs in December, but his new organization has apparently seen enough after he stumbled to a .175/.254/.383 slash line with seven homers and a 37.3 percent strikeout rate through 42 games this season. The 27-year-old could receive some interest on waivers given his prospect pedigree, but his .165 batting average and .560 OPS through 260 career big-league plate appearances is likely to dissuade most clubs.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Crushes eighth homer

Guerrero went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's rout of the A's.

The majestic second-inning blast over the left-field fence came off Jacob Lopez, and while it only traveled 399 feet, the ball reached a height of 136 feet after leaving Guerrero's bat with an eye-popping launch angle of 37 degrees. It was Guerrero's eighth homer of the year and his fourth in the last 14 games -- a stretch in which he's slashing .240/.367/.480 with six RBI, nine runs and a 9:4 BB:K.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | BOS

Nationals' Nathaniel Lowe: Rare two-hit game amid power outage

Lowe went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 9-3 win over the Mariners.

It was Lowe's first multi-hit game since May 6, and he has just one extra-base hit over his last nine games. The veteran first baseman is hitting only .211 with two RBI and two runs scored during this period. Even with the power outage -- he has only two long balls in May -- Lowe has managed to log at least one hit in seven of these nine outings.

  • Bryce Harper DH | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Absent for Game 2

Harper (elbow) is out of the lineup for the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against Atlanta.

Harper was absent from the first game of Thursday's doubleheader as well, but Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Harper was feeling better after Game 1, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reports. Alec Bohm has the start at first base and is batting third while Edmundo Sosa enters the lineup at third base.

  • Astros' Christian Walker: Taking Thursday off

Walker (hand) isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rays.

Walker had to make an early departure from Wednesday's contest after taking a pitch off his right hand. X-rays came back negative after the game, but the team will give him a day to recover from any lingering soreness that might still be bothering him. As a result, Victor Caratini will fill in at first base Thursday and bat fourth.

  • CJ Alexander 3B | LAD

Athletics' CJ Alexander: Taking seat Thursday

Alexander isn't in the lineup for Thursday's game versus Toronto.

After making back-to-back starts at first base in the absence of Nick Kurtz (hip) and going 0-for-6 with three strikeouts, Alexander will grab a seat on the bench Thursday. His absence will put Logan Davidson at first base and ninth in the Athletics' batting order.

  • Bryce Harper DH | PHI

Phillies' Bryce Harper: Sitting for first game of twin bill

Harper (elbow) is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader versus Atlanta.

Harper was struck on the right elbow by a pitch in the first inning of Tuesday's series opener with Atlanta and was diagnosed with a bruise after X-rays cleared him of any structural damage. Even with the benefit of an extra day of rest due to a rainout Wednesday, Harper will end up missing out on his first start of the season in the front end of a doubleheader. According to Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Phillies manager Rob Thomson said that Harper is "doing better" despite still dealing with some swelling on his elbow, though a decision hasn't been made whether the two-time NL MVP will be play in the second game of the day. Thomson noted that Harper still hasn't tried to swing a bat since suffering the injury, so the Phillies may be inclined to hold him out for both of Thursday's games with the hope that he'll be ready to return to the lineup for Friday's series opener versus the Brewers.

  • Spencer Steer 1B | CIN

Reds' Spencer Steer: Knocks in two in loss

Steer went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Royals.

Steer was the lone Red to convert with runners in scoring position, singling home a run apiece in the sixth and eighth innings. That hasn't always been the case in 2025 for Steer, who has just 17 RBI and a .566 OPS with RISP through 50 games. It was much different for him in 2024, when he recorded 92 RBI and a .996 OPS over 158 contests. On a positive note, five of Steer's 17 RBI this season have come in the last six games.

  • LaMonte Wade RF | LAA

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Doubles in loss

Wade went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Tigers.

Wade lined an RBI double into right field during the second inning to put the Giants on the board. The first baseman delivered his first multi-hit performance since May 13 and had gone 0-for-10 in his previous three games entering Wednesday. The 31-year-old has struggled this season and is now slashing .171/.278/.279 with 15 RBI, 12 runs scored, 11 extra-base hits -- including one home run -- and a 21:33 BB:K across 164 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Christian Walker: X-rays negative

X-rays on Walker's right hand came back negative after he was hit by a pitch during Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Walker remained in the game immediately after getting plunked in the fourth inning but was eventually replaced in the sixth. He appears to have escaped the incident without suffering any significant damage, so while the Astros may give him a day or two off to recover, he shouldn't need to miss extended time.
