  • Ty France 1B | SD

Mariners' Ty France: Three-hit night in loss

France went 3-for-5 in an extra-inning loss to the Rangers on Tuesday.

All three knocks were singles, but France's hot bat isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Factoring in Tuesday's production, he's now slashing .364/.400/.515 across the 35 plate appearances covering his last eight contests.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Out of lineup Wednesday

Diaz isn't starting Wednesday against Boston, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Diaz will be out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games after he went 1-for-5 with three strikeouts Tuesday. Joey Wendle will take his place at the hot corner and bat seventh.

  • Diamondbacks' Asdrubal Cabrera: Blasts two-run shot

Cabrera went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's loss against the Giants.

Cabrera slugged a sixth-inning blast off Alex Wood for his seventh homer of the season. The veteran third baseman has gone 8-for-25 with a .993 OPS, two homers and seven RBI in eight games this month.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Gets day off

Cronenworth is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Cronenworth will sit for the first time since July 24, ending a stretch of 14 consecutive starts in which he slashed .255/.305/.509 while driving in 14 runs and scoring nine times. Ha-Seong Kim will pick up the start at shortstop, the position that could be Cronenworth's primary home for the rest of the season with the Padres considering bringing Fernando Tatis (shoulder) back as an outfielder once he's ready to come off the 10-day injured list.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ATL

Royals' Carlos Santana: Retreats to bench

Santana isn't starting Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Santana went 0-for-10 with two strikeouts in the first two games of the series, and he'll get a chance to reset in Wednesday's series finale. Ryan O'Hearn will start at first base while Salvador Perez serves as the designated hitter.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Slugs 22nd homer

Abreu went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a double in Tuesday's loss to the Twins.

The veteran first baseman immediately followed Adam Engel's two-run, third-inning homer with a solo blast of his own, though those were the only runs Chicago scored in the contest. Abreu has been on fire of late, collecting at least one hit in eight straight games. Over that stretch, he is slashing .314/.314/.686 with four homers, six RBI and eight runs.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: On track to return Friday

Gurriel (neck) is expected to be activated off the 10-day injured list Friday when first eligible, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Gurriel was placed on the 10-day injured list last Friday with neck stiffness, but the move was backdated to Aug. 3 since he sat out the previous three games before officially landing on the shelf. The 37-year-old was fielding grounders over the weekend and apparently won't require a rehab stint due to the brevity of the absence.

  • Alex Kirilloff LF | MIN

Twins' Alex Kirilloff: Shifts to 60-day injured list

Kiriloff (wrist) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

The move has no impact on Kiriloff's recovery timeline, as he's already been ruled out for the year after undergoing surgery in late July. The procedure's eight-week recovery timeline means he won't make it back this season but should still leave him with plenty of time to get ready for next year. The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for the Twins to select Nick Vincent's contract.

  • Ryan O'Hearn RF | PIT

Royals' Ryan O'Hearn: On bench Tuesday

O'Hearn is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Yankees.

O'Hearn sat twice over the weekend with the Royals playing in a National League park without a designated hitter, and he's out of the lineup again Tuesday. Whit Merrifield will serve as the designated hitter while Hanser Alberto starts at second base.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Moves to injured list

Hoskins was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left groin strain.

Hoskins hasn't played since Thursday because of left groin soreness, so his placement on the injured list hardly comes as a surprise. The transaction is retroactive to Saturday, leaving the first baseman eligible to be reinstated Aug. 17 against the Diamondbacks. That being said, it's not yet clear if he's expected to require additional time to recover. Brad Miller seems likely to pick up the bulk of the time at first base during Hoskins' absence.
