  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Could get OF reps

Mountcastle could get reps in the outfield later this summer at Triple-A, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

So far, he has played almost exclusively at first base this season, with a few starts at third base and designated hitter sprinkled in. While Mountcastle's .323/.351/.530 slash line and seven home runs in 174 plate appearances suggest he is nearly ready for big-league pitching, the Orioles want him to face Triple-A pitchers for a second time to see how he responds to being pitched differently.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Out of lineup

Gurriel is not starting Wednesday against the White Sox, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Gurriel sits for the first time in over two weeks. Tyler White will fill in for him at first base.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Remains out Wednesday

Diaz (hand/wrist) remains out of the lineup Wednesday against the Dodgers, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Diaz left Sunday's game against the Yankees after getting hit in the hand. He was originally in Tuesday's lineup but was eventually scratched and remains out for the second game in a row. Daniel Robertson remains in the lineup at third base.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Indians' Carlos Santana: Third homer in four starts

Santana went 1-for-2 with a solo home run and two walks Wednesday in the Indians' 5-3 loss to the Athletics.

Francisco Lindor tied Santana for the team lead when he slugged his seventh home run of the season in the first inning, but Santana reclaimed sole possession of first place after taking Chris Bassitt deep in the bottom of the third. The first baseman has been the Indians' best all-around hitter throughout the season, but he's been particularly productive over his last six starts. During that span, he's gone 8-for-18 with three home runs, seven RBI, five runs and an 8:2 BB:K.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Astros' Yuli Gurriel: Pops fourth homer

Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the White Sox.

The 34-year-old is putting together a strong May, hitting .310 (22-for-71) through 18 games with three of his four homers on the season. Gurriel was back at first base Tuesday, but injuries around the Houston infield have required him to see action at second base three times in recent days, as he inches closer to adding eligibility at another position along with first and third.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Blue Jays' Rowdy Tellez: Goes deep twice

Tellez went 2-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI in a 10-3 victory against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

While he does have eight homers, this was his first home run since May 1. Tuesday marked the first time he's gone deep twice in a game this season. Tellez had just a .382 slugging percentage this month prior to Tuesday night, but the pair of long balls raised his May slugging percentage about 100 points. Overall, he is batting .248 with 14 extra-base hits, 24 RBI and 17 runs in 137 at-bats.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Slugs 11th homer

Abreu went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 5-1 loss to the Astros.

His seventh-inning shot was the only offense the White Sox could muster against Justin Verlander. Abreu is now slashing .259/.317/.508 through 47 games with 11 homers and 39 RBI.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Could be available off bench

Diaz (hand/wrist) could be available off the bench Tuesday against the Dodgers, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

He was a late scratch after feeling too much pain while taking pregame swings. However, manager Kevin Cash is still hopeful that after Diaz gets further treatment he will be an option later in the game. Regardless, it sounds like Diaz is day-to-day.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Late scratch with hand injury

Diaz (hand/wrist) was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup against the Dodgers, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

X-rays were negative on Diaz's wrist injury, which he suffered Sunday, but he will nonetheless be a late scratch after originally being cleared to play. According to Topkin, Diaz tried to swing before the game and felt too much pain. Ji-Man Choi slots in at first base, hitting third in his stead. Consider Diaz day-to-day for now.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Cleared to start Tuesday

Diaz (hand) will start at first base and serve as the Rays' leadoff hitter Tuesday against the Dodgers, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Diaz was pulled late in Sunday's series finale with the Yankees after being plunked on the left hand, but he's apparently feeling fine coming out of Monday's off day. While his health doesn't appear to be a concern as the Rays begin a five-game week, Diaz's declining production has made him a tough player to hold in shallower formats lately. Over his 15 games in May, Diaz is slashing .194/.242/.355 with two home runs, four RBI and eight runs.
