Rays' Yandy Diaz: Logs pinch-hit appearance Thursday

Diaz (ribs) was hitless in one pinch-hit appearance during a loss to the Astros on Thursday. He's expected to rejoin the starting lineup Friday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Diaz was forced from Tuesday's contest against Houston with left rib cage soreness, and although there were some concerns about the injury in the immediate aftermath, the infielder has made quick progress. If Diaz is indeed able to make it back for Friday's series opener against the Yankees, it should fully allay any concerns about his availability for the Rays' first postseason series.

The 30-year-old appeared in 68 games this year and slashed .239/.328/.437 with 11 home runs, 35 RBI and 26 runs. It's not yet clear if he could return if the Yankees advance to the ALDS.
