  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Losing work against lefties

Lowe is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers.

Though Lowe owns a 113 wRC+ against left-handers for his career, he's struggled to maintain that level of effectiveness in those matchups so far this season. Over 55 plate appearances versus lefties in 2024, Lowe is slashing .250/.327/.292 (80 wRC+). At least for the time being, manager Bruce Bochy is seemingly viewing Lowe as a platoon player. The first baseman is on the bench for the third game in a row, with the Rangers facing lefties in each of those contests.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Officially sent to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Monday.

Multiple reports after the Tigers' 8-4 win over the Red Sox on Sunday suggested that Torkelson was en route to Triple-A, but Detroit waited until shortly before Monday's series opener in Texas to make the move official. Torkelson slugged 31 home runs last season, and many anticipated another step forward in 2024, but it simply hasn't come together, with the former top prospect slashing just .201/.266/.330 with four home runs across 229 plate appearances. He'll be back in the majors eventually, but a reset at Toledo was deemed necessary. Mark Canha will draw the start at first base Monday, and Gio Urshela will also be an option at the position while Torkelson is out of the picture.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

Astros' Jose Abreu: Absent from lineup

Abreu is out of the lineup for Monday's contest against the Cardinals.

Abreu has now started five of eight games since rejoining the Astros' active roster, going 3-for-15 with one home run. He'll cede his spot in the lineup Monday to Jon Singleton, who gets the start at first base.

  • Yandy Diaz 1B | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Productive weekend series

Diaz went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI on Sunday against the Orioles.

Diaz had a strong weekend series thanks to some timely hits. Across the three games, he went just 3-for-11 but drove in four runs and also worked two free passes. Diaz has gone just 7-for-44 across his last 13 starts, though he's striking out at only a 10.6 percent clip in that span, meaning his numbers should start to tick back up.

  • Tigers' Spencer Torkelson: Heading to Triple-A

The Tigers are expected to option Torkelson to Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Torkelson was held out of the lineup for two of the Tigers' last three games after struggling to a .201/.266/.330 slash line with four home runs, 18 RBI and 24 runs scored over 229 plate appearances in 54 games this season. The first baseman will look to hit the reset button with Toledo before potentially returning to Detroit's major-league roster down the road. In the meantime, Justyn-Henry Malloy is set to be called up from Triple-A to replace Torkelson on the 26-man active roster.

  • Nolan Schanuel 1B | LAA

Angels' Nolan Schanuel: Absence continuing Sunday

Schanuel (thumb) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners.

It's the third straight absence for Schanuel as he manages soreness in his left thumb. Willie Calhoun will receive another start at first base for the Halos.

  • Andrew Vaughn 1B | MIL

White Sox's Andrew Vaughn: Out Sunday with finger injury

Vaughn (finger) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Vaughn will be on the bench for a third game in a row with a sprained left ring finger. The White Sox continue to view Vaughn as day-to-day, and with a team off day Monday, Vaughn could be ready to go for the start of the team's two-game series with the Cubs on Tuesday. Gavin Sheets will fill in at first base for Vaughn on Sunday.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Idle against lefty again

Lowe is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

The lefty-hitting Lowe will remain on the bench for the second day in a row while the Rangers oppose another left-handed starter (Trevor Rogers). The Rangers will turn to Ezequiel Duran to replace Lowe at first base.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Reclaiming playing time at first base

Soderstrom will start at first base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against Atlanta.

The lefty-hitting Soderstrom has now started in three of Oakland's last four matchups against right-handed pitchers and appears to have displaced J.D. Davis as the Athletics' preferred option at the position. Soderstrom is still likely to occupy the strong side of a platoon at first base with either Davis or Aledmys Diaz.

  • Astros' Jon Singleton: Losing out to Jose Abreu

Singleton is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

For the third time in four matchups with a right-handed starting pitcher (Simeon Woods Richardson), the lefty-hitting Singleton finds himself on the bench. Though he initially looked poised to hold down a strong-side platoon role at first base when the right-handed-hitting Jose Abreu was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Singleton appears to have since moved into a pure reserve role.
