Mariners' Justin Turner: Contributes as in-game replacement

Turner entered Friday's extra-inning win over the Giants as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the sixth inning and remained in the game at first base, going 1-for-2 with an RBI single, a walk and a run.

Turner drew the free pass during his pinch-hit plate appearance, and then ignited the Mariners' four-run, game-tying rally in the eighth with a timely knock that plated Jorge Polanco. Turner hasn't offered much pop of late, but he's rapped out a single in four straight starts and continues to hold down a near-everyday role at first base.

  • Nate Lowe 1B | CIN

    Rangers' Nathaniel Lowe: Snaps slump

Lowe went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's 5-3 win over the Guardians.

Lowe snapped an 0-for-12 slump when he singled and scored as part of the Rangers' four-run second inning. Lowe's batting .234/.351/.369 over 32 games since the All-Star break.

  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

Yankees' Ben Rice: Late addition Friday

Rice will play first base and bat ninth Friday against Colorado after DJ LeMahieu (face) was scratched from the lineup, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The lefty-hitting Rice was left off the Yankees' initial starting nine against southpaw Kyle Freeland and the Rockies. However, after LeMahieu got hit in the face by a ball during pregame warmups, Rice was inserted into the lineup.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: On bench Friday

Mountcastle (wrist) is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Astros

  • Ben Rice 1B | NYY

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Idle Friday

Guerrero is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Blue Jays.

  • Niko Kavadas 1B | LAA

Angels' Niko Kavadas: Belts first big-league homer

Kavadas went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in a loss to Toronto on Thursday.

The Angels' offense had been shut out until Kavadas made things interesting with a three-run blast to left field in the ninth inning. The long ball was not only his first as a major-leaguer, it was also his first hit of any kind -- he had gone 0-for-14 prior to the homer. Kavadas has intriguing power, as he went deep 19 times in 94 games in Triple-A this season prior to being called up by the Halos on Aug. 16.

In five games since returning to Detroit's big-league roster, Torkelson is 7-for-17 (.412) with two doubles, a triple and a home run. The 24-year-old has a .652 OPS in 249 plate appearances on the year.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Exits with wrist injury

Mountcastle exited Thursday's game against the Astros due to a sore wrist, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Mountcastle suffered the injury while diving headfirst into second base in the second inning. He remained in the contest until the ninth frame but reported that the pain got progressively worse. Imaging will likely be the next step and should provide a clearer timeline for Mountcastle's return.

  • Athletics' Tyler Soderstrom: Plays catch Wednesday

Soderstrom (wrist) played catch before Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, the Associated Press reports.

Soderstrom began his strengthening program earlier this week and Wednesday's activity was part of his progression. There's still no word on when the rookie might be able to get some swings in rehab games, but he still seems to be well on track to return to the big-league roster before the end of the regular season.
