  Owens (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants. A hamstring injury prevented Owens from practicing all week, and his next chance to play is Week 6 against the 49ers on Monday, Oct. 19. Given that Owens, Nick Cross (illness) and Percy Butler (hamstring) have all been ruled out, the only healthy safeties on the Commanders' roster are Jeremy Reaves and Quan Martin.

Owens tweaked his hamstring during the second half of Sunday's game in London, and he's being evaluated by medical staff to determine whether he can return. Percy Butler and Quan Martin are the only healthy safeties left for the Commanders due to the absences of Owens, Jeremy Reaves (finger, questionable) and Nick Cross (illness, inactive).

His high-level play on special teams last season has earned him an expanded role on defense, but to what degree remains to seen. The 24-year-old could be in position to start at safety following Jeremy Chinn's departure this offseason.

  The Commanders placed Owens (ankle) on injured reserve Saturday, Ben Standig of The Athletic reports. Owens will miss the last two games of the season due to an ankle injury. The undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech will end the regular season with 11 tackles (seven solo) and one forced fumble across 12 games while playing solely on special teams. He could be activated off IR and play for the Commanders again, but only if Washington were to make it to the Super Bowl.
