  • Chargers' Scott Matlock: Records two catches in Week 15

Matlock played 36 of the Chargers' 66 snaps on offense and recorded two catches for nine yards in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Chiefs. Listed at 6-foot-4 and 296 pounds, Matlock began his career as a defensive lineman but has played primarily as a fullback since Jim Harbaugh took over as the Chargers' head coach in 2024. He's typically been deployed mainly as a lead blocker and pass protector, but Matlock ended up seeing a couple of short-yardage targets from quarterback Justin Herbert in Sunday's win. Matlock's last reception had come back in Week 9, when he hauled in a two-yard pass for his first NFL touchdown in a 27-20 win over the Titans.

  • Chargers' Scott Matlock: Cleared to play Week 11

Matlock is active for Sunday's game against the Jaguars after he had been listed as questionable due to a chest injury. Despite carrying a designation into the weekend, Matlock did not appear to be at risk of missing the contest after he practiced fully Thursday and Friday. Through the Chargers' first 10 games, the fullback/defensive lineman has recorded two receptions for three yards and a touchdown to go with eight tackles, a sack and a pass breakup.

  • Chargers' Scott Matlock: Scores first career TD in win

Matlock caught his lone target for two yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-20 win over the Titans. Matlock caught a two-yard touchdown pass from Justin Herbert in the first quarter of Sunday's win, marking the first score of his NFL career. The Boise State product also played 28 offensive snaps in Week 9, his second most in a single game this season. Expect Matlock to continue operating as the Chargers' top fullback in the Week 10 matchup against the Steelers.

  • Chargers' Scott Matlock: Returns to practice Wednesday

Matlock (personal) practiced in full Wednesday. Matlock didn't play this past Sunday against Miami due to a personal matter. However, his presence in practice Wednesday suggests he'll be able to return to action in Week 7 versus Indianapolis. Matlock has typically logged around 20-to-30 percent of the Chargers' offensive snaps as the team's lone fullback.

  • Chargers' Scott Matlock: Shows off versatility in 2024

Matlock appeared in all 17 regular-season games for the Chargers this season, making four catches on five targets for 28 yards while also recording seven combined tackles and 1.0 sacks. Matlock appeared in all three phases of the game this year, playing snaps on offense at fullback, working on the edge on defense and also seeing work on special teams. His work at fullback was a new wrinkle in his repertoire this year after he played on the other side of the ball exclusively in his rookie campaign. With two years remaining on his rookie contract, Matlock should have more time in Los Angeles to develop his skills out of the backfield.
