  • Browns' Robert Jackson: Absent with illness

Jackson didn't practice Tuesday due to an illness, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Jackson's illness doesn't appear to be related to COVID-19, but he was still forced to miss at least one day of practice. When the 27-year-old returns to full health, he should serve as depth in Cleveland's secondary this season.

  • Robert Jackson: Cut by Cleveland

The Browns waived Jackson (hamstring) on Thursday, Zac Jackson of The Athletic reports. Jackson appeared in 10 regular-season games with the Browns in 2020 before landing on IR due to a hamstring injury in the playoffs. During that span, Jackson notched six tackles and one pass breakup and he also got his first career start against the Steelers in Week 17. Once back to full health, Jackson will look to earn a depth roster spot elsewhere in the league.

  • Browns' Robert Jackson: Deemed day-to-day

Head coach Kevin Stefanski said Monday that Jackson (hamstring) is considered day-to-day, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Jackson made his first career start in Sunday's wild-card win over the Steelers, but he exited after 77 snaps. It appears the injury is minor, although he'll be closely monitored through the practice week. Even if he's able to shake the injury, both Denzel Ward and Kevin Johnson have a good chance to return from the reserve/COVID-19 list for Sunday's AFC divisional-round matchup against the Chiefs.

  • Browns' Robert Jackson: Draws first career start

Jackson will make his first career start Sunday against Pittsburgh, Mary Kay Cabot of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Jackson has seen almost all his reps this season on special teams, but he'll ultimately be the next man up with Denzel Ward on the COVID list. He's only seen six snaps on defense this year, but he and opposite-side corner Terrance Mitchell will be the first line of defense against Mason Rudolph and the Pittsburgh passing attack.

  • Browns' Robert Jackson: Promoted to active roster

The Browns signed Jackson to the active roster from the practice squad Friday, Scott Patsko of Cleveland.com reports. Jackson's spot on the 53-man roster comes following the release of Elijah McGuire. The UNLV product spent the first two weeks of the season on Cleveland's practice squad and now projects to contribute on special teams.

  • Browns' Robert Jackson: Inks future deal with Cleveland

Jackson signed a reserve/future contract with the Browns on Tuesday, per the NFL's official transaction log. Since entering the league as an undrafted rookie, Jackson has spent time with the Colts, Texans and Browns, but didn't suit up for an NFL game. The Browns have a solid corps of cornerbacks, so Jackson will vie for a special-teams role next season.

  • Robert Jackson: Put on injured list

Jackson was placed on the practice squad/injured list Thursday due to a hamstring issue. Jackson's placement on the injured list allowed the Browns to sign fellow defensive back Ashton Lampkin to their practice squad. Jackson has yet to make his NFL debut, which will now likely have to wait until 2019 if he's able to eventually stick on an active roster.
