    Shelton (hamstring) has been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Buccaneers, Tommy Yarrish of the Cowboys' official site reports. Shelton is considered week-to-week due to a hamstring injury he picked up in Week 4 against the Texans, so his absence for Thursday's game isn't a surprise. His next chance to suit up is Week 6 against the Packers on Sunday, Oct. 18, though Shelton would have to log at least a limited practice to have a legitimate chance of returning.

    Head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters Tuesday that Shelton is considered week-to-week due to a hamstring injury, Joe Hoyt of The Dallas Morning News reports. Shelton likely picked up the injury during the Cowboys' Week 4 win over the Texans, when he played one snap each on offense and special teams. It's unclear whether a stint on injured reserve is necessary for the rookie fourth-rounder, but it seems unlikely that he'll be cleared to play Thursday against the Buccaneers.

    The Cowboys selected Shelton in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 112th overall. The Penn State product started at left tackle in each of his last two years in college and was named as an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in both 2024 and 2025. He has quick feet and speed to keep up with NFL-level rushers, but he'll need to work on his functional strength to earn meaningful playing time. Shelton figures to serve in a reserve role at offensive tackle behind Tyler Smith (knee), Tyler Guyton (ankle) and Terence Steele.
