  • Bears' Nephi Sewell: Placed on injured reserve

The Bears placed Sewell (concussion) on injured reserve Tuesday. Sewell was fighting a losing battle to make the 53-man roster before his injury, so season-ending injury reserve for a concussion is no surprise. The linebacker will now spend the entirety of the 2026 regular season on IR unless he is waived with an injury settlement.

  • Bears' Nephi Sewell: Suffers concussion Saturday

Sewell was concussed during Saturday's preseason win against Cleveland, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports. Sewell was hurt during a kickoff and spent a few minutes on the ground before exiting under his own power. He finished the game with three tackles (one solo). Sewell will need to clear the league's concussion protocol before returning to full-contact practice or playing in a game. He's trying to earn a role with Chicago as a depth linebacker and special-teamer.

  • Saints' Nephi Sewell: Cleared to play Week 11

Sewell (knee) is active for Sunday's game against the Browns. Sewell is in line to make his 2024 regular-season debut Sunday. He started the season on the reserve/PUP list while recovering from a torn ACL injury he suffered in December of 2023. Sewell's ability to practice in full all week prompted his activation from the PUP list Saturday, and he will provide depth at linebacker behind starters Pete Werner, Demario Davis and Willie Gay.

  • Saints' Nephi Sewell: Activated off PUP ahead of Week 11

The Saints activated Sewell (knee) from the reserve/PUP list Saturday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Sewell suffered an ACL injury in Week 17 of the 2023 regular season, and his recovery prompted the Saints to place the 27-year-old on the PUP list at the start of the regular season. He's still listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns, but if he's cleared to play, Sewell would give the Saints depth at linebacker, which is timely considering starter Pete Werner (hand) is considered a game-time decision.

  • Saints' Nephi Sewell: Won't return Week 10

Sewell (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons. Sewell has been on the Saints' reserve/PUP list since the start of the regular season while working his way back from an ACL injury from Week 17 of the 2023 season. While he was able to practice in full all week, he appears to need more time before returning to action. Sewell's next opportunity to make his 2024 regular-season debut will be against the Browns in Week 11.

  • Saints' Nephi Sewell: Designated to return

Sewell (knee) was designated to return from the reserve/PUP list Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. Sewell has missed New Orleans' first eight games this year while recovering from a torn ACL sustained in Week 17 of the 2023 season. The Utah product will now have 21 days to be activated to the Saints' active roster before reverting to IR. Expect Sewell to serve as one of New Orleans' top rotational inside linebackers once he returns to the field.

  • Saints' Nephi Sewell: Unavailable to open season

Sewell (knee) was placed on the reserve/PUP list by the Saints on Tuesday. Sewell is still working his way back from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 17 of the 2023 season and he'll be forced to miss at least the first four games of the 2024 campaign. The linebacker will be first eligible to return in Week 5 against Kansas City on Oct. 7.

  • Saints' Nephi Sewell: Season ends early

Sewell suffered an ACL injury, which will require surgery, in the Saints' win over the Buccaneers on Sunday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Sewell will now focus on prep for surgery, as opposed to New Orleans' Week 18 opponent, the Falcons. The Utah product's second NFL season will come to an end with 16 games played, 15 tackles (11 solo) and a forced fumble while mostly covering on special teams. The severity of the injury and what Sewell's recovery timeline might be isn't yet clear.
