  • Jets' Khalil Herbert: Signed by Jets

The Jets signed Herbert on Thursday. In a corresponding move, the team placed fellow running back Braelon Allen (knee) on injured reserve. With the Jets, Herbert will provide depth to a backfield that's led by Breece Hall and also includes Isaiah Davis and Kene Nwangwu (hamstring). While Herbert doesn't have an immediate path to fantasy lineup utility, that's a context that could change if Hall were to miss time at any point down the road.

  • Khalil Herbert: Let go by Seattle

Herbert was cut from Seattle's practice squad Wednesday, John Boyle of the team's official site reports. Herbert was with Seattle's practice squad for a week, but he was let go when the team signed Myles Gaskin. Herbert appeared in 14 games with the Bengals and Bears in 2024, and he should land another opportunity elsewhere around the league.

  • Khalil Herbert: Signs with Seattle's practice squad

The Seahawks signed Herbert to the practice squad Tuesday, Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times reports. Herbert's addition to the practice squad gives the Seahawks additional depth at running back, which could come in handy if Zach Charbonnet (foot) is unable to play in Thursday's game against the Cardinals. Herbert split his time last season between the Bears and Bengals, and finished with 36 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown, and 10 catches (on 11 targets) for 25 yards across 14 regular-season games.

  • Khalil Herbert: Expected to join Seattle's PS

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that the Seahawks are expected to sign Herbert to the practice squad. The Seahawks are operating on a short week in facing the Cardinals on Thursday. With Zach Charbonnet (foot) in danger of missing a second consecutive game, the addition of Herbert would give Seattle added backfield depth behind Kenneth Walker if Charbonnet is inactive. Herbert logged 36 carries for 130 yards and a touchdown and 10 catches (on 11 targets) for 25 yards across 14 regular-season games in 2024 between the Bengals (eight) and Bears (six).

  • Khalil Herbert: Cut from Indy's practice squad

The Colts cut Herbert from the practice squad Monday. The move makes room on the Colts' practice squad for running back Ameer Abdullah. Herbert joined Indianapolis' scout team in late August after failing to make the 53-man active roster, but the 2021 sixth-rounder will now look to join a team in need of backfield depth. Herbert played in 14 regular-season games in 2024 between the Bengals (eight) and Bears (six) and totalled 36 carries for 130 yards and one touchdown while adding 10 catches (on 11 targets) for 25 yards.

  • Khalil Herbert: Lands on practice squad

Herbert signed to the Colts' practice squad Wednesday. The running back was released Tuesday after falling short of the team's 53-man roster, and while he may have been expected to end up with another team given his experience in the league, Herbert cleared waivers and remained with Indy. The former Bengal and Bear initially signed with the Colts in March after appearing in 14 regular-season games for the aforementioned teams in 2024, but he failed to make the roster after missing the last two preseason games with an undisclosed injury. Healthy now, Herbert is perhaps a candidate for a call-up if the Colts need running back help behind Jonathan Taylor during the regular season.

  • Khalil Herbert: Fails to make Colts' 53-man roster

The Colts released Herbert on Tuesday, Amanda Foster of the team's official site reports. Herbert signed with the Colts in March after playing 14 regular-season games between the Bengals (eight) and Bears (six) in 2024. The 2021 sixth-rounder logged seven carries for 29 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' preseason opener against the Ravens, but he suffered an undisclosed injury during that game that forced him to miss Indianapolis' final two exhibition contests. The fact that Herbert wasn't waived with an injury designation indicates he's healthy, so he should garner plenty of interest from a team looking to solidify its backfield depth.

  • Colts' Khalil Herbert: Doesn't play vs. Green Bay

Herbert (undisclosed) did not play in the Colts' 23-19 preseason loss to the Packers on Saturday. Herbert has been sidelined for the past week due to an undisclosed injury, which prevented him from suiting up in Saturday's exhibition contest. The severity and nature of the injury are not clear, but Herbert's practice participation this upcoming week will be an indication of his chances of playing in the Colts' preseason finale against the Bengals on Saturday, Aug. 23. He's battling against DJ Giddens and Tyler Goodson for backup duties behind Jonathan Taylor in the backfield.

  • Colts' Khalil Herbert: Dealing with injury

Coach Shane Steichen said Sunday that Herbert is dealing with an undisclosed injury, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. He was seen with a wrap on his leg, the Indianapolis Star reports. Herbert rushed seven times for 29 yards and one touchdown in the Colts' preseason opener against the Ravens on Thursday, and it's unclear when he was injured or the severity of the injury. Looking like the Colts' RB4 behind Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Goodson and rookie DJ Giddens, Herbert can't afford to miss much time in his quest for a spot on the 53-man roster.

  • Colts' Khalil Herbert: Joining Indy

Herbert agreed to a one-year contract with the Colts on Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Indianapolis is a favorable landing spot for Herbert, who fell out of favor in Chicago last season and then barely received playing time in Cincinnati until Chase Brown missed Week 18 with an ankle injury. Herbert started in 12 of his 48 appearances in three-plus seasons with the Bears, averaging 4.8 yards on 372 carries and 6.5 yards on 45 receptions. He'll turn 27 years old in April and has a nice opportunity ahead, joining an Indianapolis offense that relied on Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson for depth behind Jonathan Taylor in 2024. The downside for Herbert is that he has zero opportunity to become the starter outside of an injury to Taylor.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Solid in spot start Saturday

Herbert rushed 20 times for 69 yards and brought in seven of eight targets for 14 yards in the Bengals' 19-17 win over the Steelers on Saturday night. Herbert got the spot start due to Chase Brown (ankle) being sidelined and shouldered quite the heavy workload after having previously combined for just eight carries since arriving in Cincinnati via trade with the Bears. The veteran running back unsurprisingly found tough sledding on the ground against the Steelers, but he was a steady presence in the passing game and finished third on the team in receptions and targets. If the Bengals are able to make their way into the postseason with help Sunday, Herbert would be in line to draw another start in the wild-card round if Brown remains sidelined.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: In line for leading role Saturday

Herbert is in line to be the Bengals' primary running back Saturday in Pittsburgh due to Chase Brown (ankle) being inactive for the contest, Geoff Hobson of the team's official site reports. Brown won't suit up one week removed from spraining his right ankle during last Saturday's overtime win against the Broncos. Since joining the Bengals at the trade deadline, Herbert has received spot duty in seven consecutive games prior to this Week 18 matchup, turning eight carries into 45 yards (5.6 YPC) and gathering in his only target for seven yards. Considering Cincinnati's other available RBs on Saturday are Trayveon Williams (no touches in 16 games) and undrafted rookie Kendall Milton (one appearance this season), Herbert appears poised to operate as a workhorse for a high-powered offense.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Sleeper RBs

Chase Brown (ankle) is likely out for this Week 18 game at Pittsburgh, which would make Herbert the starter. While Brown has been awesome this season, the Bengals have gotten great production from their backfield all year with Brown and Zack Moss. The duo combined to score at least 13.1 PPR points in 13 of 16 games this season, and hopefully, Herbert can follow suit. He had four games last year in Chicago with at least 15 total touches, and he scored at least 19.1 PPR points in three of those outings. I like Herbert as a No. 2 running back in all leagues.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Week 18 Waiver Priority List

Chase Brown is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and could miss Week 18 at Pittsburgh. If he's out, then Herbert could start for the Bengals, and he would be worth using as a No. 2 running back in all leagues. We haven't seen Herbert do much for the Bengals since joining the team via trade from the Bears, but he had four carries for 23 yards against Denver in Week 17. And the Steelers could be resting starters on defense for this game, which would help Herbert even more.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Could be headed for increased role

Herbert rushed the ball four times for 23 yards in Saturday's 30-24 overtime win over the Broncos. Chase Brown led the Bengals' backfield but suffered a sprained ankle late in the fourth quarter when he slid short of the end zone. That pushed Herbert into a substantial role in overtime, highlighted by a 13-yard rush to kick off Cincinnati's game-clinching drive. Herbert should lead the backfield in Week 18 against Pittsburgh if Brown is unable to suit up.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Handles one carry in Week 15

Herbert rushed once for four yards in Sunday's 37-27 win over the Titans. Herbert continued to play an extremely small role in the Bengals' offense since being acquired by Cincinnati at the trade deadline. The veteran running back played just three of the Bengals' 69 offensive snaps Sunday, while Chase Brown played all but five snaps in the contest. Since joining the Bengals in Week 10, Herbert has attempted just four rushes and caught one pass. Barring an injury to Brown, the 26-year-old Herbert cannot be trusted to provide relevant fantasy production in such an insignificant role. He should be considered nothing more than an insurance policy behind Brown heading into a Week 16 matchup against the Browns.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Stuck in small role on offense

Herbert played seven of the Bengals' 71 snaps on offense and carried twice for four yards while adding a seven-yard reception in Monday's 27-20 win over the Cowboys. Though Herbert saw solid usage during his limited time on the field, he'll likely continue to handle a small role on offense while Chase Brown has emerged as a three-down workhorse out of the backfield. Herbert also brought back two kickoffs for 67 yards in the Week 14 win, but he'll likely cede those duties to Charlie Jones (groin) if the latter player is able to play Sunday at Tennessee.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: One carry in loss

Herbert rushed once for 14 yards in Sunday's 44-38 loss to the Steelers. Herbert's one carry Sunday was his first since joining the Bengals at the trade deadline. The 26-year-old running back played just six offensive snaps against the Steelers after playing a total of six offensive snaps across his first two appearances. With such limited usage behind lead back Chase Brown, Herbert remains nothing more than an insurance policy for fantasy purposes. As the season progresses, it's possible the fourth-year back could continue to see his snap percentage gradually increase if the Bengals decide to lighten Brown's workload down the stretch. Herbert will look to get more involved when the Bengals visit the Cowboys in Week 14.

  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Week 14 Waiver Priority List

If we learned anything from the Christian McCaffrey/Jordan Mason injuries it's that stashing handcuffs is a good idea if you have the roster space. And Herbert is the No. 2 running back in Cincinnati behind Chase Brown, giving Herbert some potential as a lottery ticket. He's worth adding in all leagues for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.
... See More ... See Less
  • Bengals' Khalil Herbert: Plays four offensive snaps in loss

Herbert failed to record a single rushing attempt or target in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers. Herbert was not a part of the Bengals' offensive game plan Sunday, as the veteran running back still has yet to see a single touch on offense for Cincinnati. Herbert did, however, gain 29 yards on his only kick return in the contest. It's possible that the 26-year-old may still be taking time to get acclimated into the Bengals' offense, but it is surprising to see such limited playing time for a player that the Bengals traded for ahead of the trade deadline. Meanwhile, fellow running back Chase Brown has continued to see a massive workload as Cincinnati's lead back. Herbert will look to get more involved in the offense when the Bengals come out of their Week 12 bye to face the Steelers on Dec. 1.
