Gaines was in line to miss the entire 2022 campaign after aggravating a hamstring injury in the Packers' preseason finale and subsequently being placed on injured reserve. He will now be able to look for a new opportunity once his health is back up to par.

    The Packers waived Gaines (hamstring) with an injury designation Tuesday, Wes Hodkiewicz of the team's official site reports. Gaines aggravated the hamstring issue during the Packers' preseason finale against the Chiefs. The extent of the issue remains unclear, but he'll revert to Green Bay's injured reserve list if he clears waivers, which -- barring an injury settlement -- would end his 2022 campaign.

Gaines has been dealing with a hamstring injury since the Packers' second practice in August. The second-year safety will miss crucial time on the field as he continues to compete for a role on the field with Vernon Scott, Shawn Davis and Dallin Leavitt. The Packers are fortunate, however, that Gaines was able to walk off under his own power alongside the team doctor.
