• KJ Hill: Joins Chargers' practice squad

  Rotowire Oct 23, 2021

Hill cleared waivers and is re-signing with the Chargers' practice squad, Doug Kyed of Pro Football Focus reports. The Chargers waived Hill on Tuesday, but they signed him to their practice squad Saturday after he cleared waivers. The 2020 seventh-round pick saw minimal playing time across the first six weeks of the season, but Los Angeles is only carrying five wideouts on its active roster, so he will be a likely candidate to be promoted if one of them goes down with an injury.

• KJ Hill: Let go by Chargers

  Rotowire Oct 21, 2021

Hill was waived by the Chargers on Thursday. The 2020 seventh-rounder saw minimal playing time across the first six weeks of the season but will be let go after Andre Roberts signed with the Chargers on Thursday. Hill hauled in all three of his targets for 30 yards to begin the season.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Quietly accumulates catches

  Rotowire Sep 13, 2021

Hill caught all three of his targets for 30 yards in Sunday's 20-16 win over Washington. Hill caught three passes despite playing just seven offensive snaps, ceding the majority of the backup wide receiver snaps to Josh Palmer and Jalen Guyton. The second-year wideout caught seven passes total in all of 2020, so while the low snap count indicates a likely regression in terms of targets, it's nice to see Hill make good with his limited opportunities.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Back at practice

  Rotowire Aug 31, 2021

Hill (undisclosed) returned to practice Tuesday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. The Chargers had been extra cautious with a number of skill-position players this preseason, including Hill, but considering no information was released regarding the severity of the injury, it's safe to assume the second-year returner won't be hindered in the future. The surprising waive of Tyron Johnson leaves Hill as the team's No. 5 wide receiver on the depth chart, although he'll probably see more usage as the Chargers' punt returner.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Absent from practice

  Rotowire Aug 25, 2021

Hill was sidelined at Wednesday's practice for an undisclosed reason, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. Hill is currently competing for a special teams and depth receiving role with the Chargers. While it is unclear what he is specifically dealing with, a quick return to camp would be beneficial for his chances.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Four catches in loss

  Rotowire Aug 22, 2021

Hill caught four of seven targets for 18 yards and gained one yard on his lone carry in Sunday's 15-10 preseason loss to the 49ers. Hill got lots of run in this exhibition contest, but a combination of conservative quarterback play and tight defensive coverage resulted in minimal gains from his five touches. The speedy wideout ran back one kick and one punt return, a role in which he is likely to serve again this season for the Chargers. Next up are the Seahawks on Saturday for Week 3 of the preseason.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Inconsequential rookie year

  Rotowire Jan 8, 2021

Hill finished his rookie season with seven receptions on 11 targets for 73 yards across 15 games. Hill also fielded a handful of special-teams returns throughout the season, accumulating 90 total return yards, but it was hardly a banner year for the 2020 seventh-round pick. The 23-year-old did see the fifth-most snaps of any Chargers wide receiver, but Hill was grossly outpaced by Jalen Guyton, who beat him out for the No. 3 role to start the season, and later by undrafted free agent Tyron Johnson, who became a more prominent factor toward the end of the campaign. Considering the lack of significant draft capital invested in Hill, the prospects of the Ohio State product emerging as a quality fantasy candidate appear bleak entering the offseason.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Secures lone target

  Rotowire Dec 8, 2020

Hill caught his only target for seven yards during Sunday's 45-0 loss to the Patriots. Hill's nine offensive snaps during Sunday's contest were the most significant playing time he's seen since Week 5, but it was still just a minor offensive role. The 23-year-old has three catches for 30 yards in 11 games this season.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Practices fully Wednesday

  Rotowire Oct 28, 2020

Hill (hip) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice. Hill missed this past Sunday's win over the Jaguars due to this hip injury, but it appears the rookie has shaken off the issue and will be available for this Sunday's divisional tilt against Denver. He's still looking to establish chemistry with quarterback Justin Herbert, as Hill's six targets over four games with the fellow rookie have translated into just two receptions for 23 yards and no touchdowns.

• Chargers' KJ Hill: Draws two targets in loss

  Rotowire Oct 13, 2020

Hill turned two targets into an eight-yard reception Monday in the Chargers' 30-27 overtime loss to the Saints. Hill played 49 percent of the Chargers' offensive snaps in the loss, matching his season-high total from Week 3, when he was targeted four times in a loss to the Panthers. The rookie has otherwise gone without a look in the Chargers' other three games this season, which has thus far made it difficult to rely on him for fantasy purposes.

• Chargers' K.J. Hill: Not much of offensive factor

  Rotowire Sep 22, 2020

Hill played six snaps in the 23-20 overtime loss to the Chiefs on Sunday. Much like last week, Hill simply wasn't a featured part of the offense, registering just six offensive snaps in a game that was close throughout. A number of injuries to guys ahead of Hill on the depth chart would need to occur before he becomes fantasy relevant.

• Chargers' K.J. Hill: Sees 12 snaps Sunday

  Rotowire Sep 15, 2020

Hill played 12 snaps in Sunday's 16-13 win over the Bengals. Hill failed to record a target in the win, operating as the No. 4 wideout behind Jalen Guyton. It's good to see Hill out-snap rookie Joe Reed, but a bevy of injuries would need to occur for the seventh-round pick to have any sort of fantasy utility this season.

• Chargers' K.J. Hill: Spot on roster secure

  Rotowire Sep 5, 2020

Hill earned a spot on the team's 53-man roster following Saturday's cut-down. It's not a particularly controversial decision, particularly after the injury to Mike Williams (shoulder), which could keep him out for Week 1. While Hill doesn't possess the necessary speed to be a typical No. 3 wide receiver in the Chargers offense, he's a simply better all-around player than Jalen Guyton and could be valuable fantasy pickup should injuries to Williams or Keenan Allen create a spot for him in the starting lineup.

• Chargers' K.J. Hill: Falls to seventh round

  Rotowire Apr 25, 2020

The Chargers selected Hill in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft, 220th overall. The Ohio State product doesn't wow with his athleticism or his production, which explains why he was available this late on Day 3. Hill's calling cards are his technique and hands, having caught 127 of 175 targets over his final two seasons at Columbus. He turned in a 4.60 in the 40-yard dash at 5-foot-10 and 196 pounds and will turn 23 early in his rookie season. Hill could be a replacement-level receiver if he finds his way onto the field in Los Angeles.
