Player Outlook
Did you know that Allen Lazard was a top-20 WR per game with 354 yards and five touchdowns in the first six games of the season? That was before Davante Adams arrived and spoiled Lazard's fun. Does that mean that Lazard is a 2025 sleeper now that Adams in on the Rams? No, it does not. The Jets have a new QB in Justin Fields and it's unclear who will be second on the team in targets behind Garrett Wilson. Lazard is not worth drafting but could be worth a waiver wire add if he gets off to a good start.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Out a couple weeks

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Tuesday that Lazard (shoulder) will miss roughly two weeks, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Lazard suffered a right shoulder injury during last weekend's preseason win over Green Bay, and it appears he won't be a candidate to play in Saturday's exhibition matchup against the Giants. The veteran wideout's final chance to return to preseason action will come Friday, Aug. 22 against the Eagles. Lazard is battling for a starting role in three-wide sets, but his absence now provides Tyler Johnson with more first-team reps alongside Garrett Wilson and Josh Reynolds.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Dealing with shoulder injury

Lazard has an injured right shoulder and was wearing an arm sling following Saturday's win over the Packers, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Lazard caught both of his targets for nine yards in the victory. It's not clear when he got hurt, but the fact that he was wearing a sling after the game adds a layer of concern about his status. According to head coach Aaron Glenn, the veteran wideout will undergo tests to determine the severity of the issue. If Lazard were to miss regular-season time, Tyler Johnson could have an opportunity to jump into a bigger role as the team's No. 3 receiver.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Top-three WR per depth chart

Lazard is listed as a starter on the unofficial depth chart the Jets released Sunday. Lazard is penciled in as a starter alongside Garrett Wilson and Josh Reynolds. With Xavier Gipson (shoulder) and Jamaal Pritchett behind Lazard on the depth chart, it looks like the 29-year-old Lazard is ticketed for slot duties in three-receiver sets if this pecking order holds.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Sliding down depth chart?

Lazard has "fallen back in the receiver pecking order," according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. Lazard agreed to a pay cut this offseason, slashing his base salary from $11 million to $2.5 million after mostly disappointing through the first two seasons of a three-year contract. The No. 2 WR spot in New York is up for grabs, but it sounds like Josh Reynolds has moved ahead of Lazard and others as the favorite. Lazard could perhaps still make a move for the role, but he's also a candidate to be released if he doesn't perform well this summer.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Agrees to pay cut

Lazard and the Jets have agreed to reduce his 2025 salary from $11 million to $2.5 million, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. It's the third season of a four-year contract that now includes $1.75 million guaranteed for 2025, after Lazard barely played in 2023 but rebounded last season to score six touchdowns in 12 games (10 starts). He turned 29 in December and may now end up in an open competition for WR roles behind No. 1 Garrett Wilson. This will be Lazard's first season playing for a team that doesn't have QB Aaron Rodgers.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Working on contract extension

Jets general manager Darren Mougey said Sunday that the team is working on a contract restructure with Lazard and hopes to keep him on the roster this offseason, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Lazard was granted permission to seek a trade in early March. The 29-year-old wideout put up relatively mediocre production since joining the Jets on a four-year, $44 million contract two years ago, posting 60 catches (on 109 targets) for 861 yards and seven touchdowns across 26 appearances. It's unlikely that many teams will be interested in trading for Lazard given the size of his contract; therefore, he'll likely be forced to restructure and/or take a smaller salary whether he is traded or remains on the Jets roster. It's also possible, and perhaps more likely, that he will be released if a contract restructure does not materialize.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Gets permission to find trade

The Jets have given Lazard permission to seek a trade, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. The second season of Lazard's four-year, $44 million contract went much better than the first, but it still looks like a huge overpay, and he still hasn't found success with any QB besides Aaron Rodgers (who won't be with the Jets in 2025). A release is more likely than a trade, as Lazard presumably would need to accept a pay cut to generate any interest. He's scheduled for non-guaranteed base salaries of $11 million in both 2025 and 2026.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Scores TD in likely Jets finale

Lazard caught all three of his targets for 71 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 32-20 win over the Dolphins. He finishes the season with 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns on 60 targets in 12 appearances. Lazard caught Aaron Rodgers' 501st regular-season touchdown pass on a 13-yard strike 59 seconds before halftime. The 29-year-old wide receiver scored five times through Week 6, but the Week 18 score was his only touchdown thereafter, as Lazard missed five games due to a chest injury and took a back seat after Davante Adams' arrival. The Jets almost certainly will utilize their out at the halfway point of Lazard's four-year, $44 million contract this offseason, as he hasn't come close to justifying that deal.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: One catch in latest loss

Lazard caught one of three targets for nine yards in Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Bills. Lazard didn't do a good job of working back to the ball on Aaron Rodgers' second interception, so the two former Packers each shoulder some of the blame for that turnover. The drop-prone wide receiver has caught only 34 of 57 targets this season, and Lazard hasn't scored since Week 6. A Week 18 tilt against the Dolphins will likely be his last game with the Jets -- there's an out in the four-year, $44 million overpay of a contract he signed prior to the 2023 season.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Two catches in Week 16

Lazard caught two of five targets for 20 yards in Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Rams. Lazard's ongoing issues with drops resurfaced in this game, as he added a couple more to his ledger. His unreliable hands coupled with a modest target share as the No. 3 wideout behind Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson limit Lazard's fantasy appeal ahead of a Week 17 trip to Buffalo.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: No catches on four targets

Lazard didn't catch any of his four targets in Sunday's 32-25 win over the Jaguars. Lazard has displayed butter fingers throughout his tenure with the Jets, and he had an especially costly drop Sunday on a dime from Aaron Rodgers that should have been a 30-yard touchdown. Anders Carlson missed a field-goal attempt on the very next play, though Lazard's struggles ultimately didn't prevent the Jets from notching their fourth win of the season. For the second consecutive game since Lazard returned from IR, Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson combined for double-digit catches and well over 200 yards, leaving limited opportunities for the team's No. 3 wideout.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: One catch in return from IR

Lazard (chest) caught his only target for 18 yards in Sunday's 32-26 overtime loss to the Dolphins. Seeing his first action since Week 7, Lazard played 78 percent of snaps on offense, so his lack of production wasn't due to a lack of playing time. He's a distant third on the Jets' wide receiver depth chart behind Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams, who combined for 223 yards and a touchdown on 21 targets against the Dolphins. Lazard will be a touchdown-dependent Week 15 fantasy option against a Jaguars defense that's giving up 26.5 points per game.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Officially available for Sunday

Lazard (chest) was activated off injured reserve Saturday. Lazard is officially cleared to return after missing the past five games due to a chest injury. The 28-year-old might struggle to see opportunities as the No. 3 target behind Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams, especially given the Jets' struggles passing the ball in recent weeks.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Practices fully Wednesday

Lazard (chest) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Lazard was officially designated for return from injured reserve Wednesday, and he looks to have a decent shot of suiting up for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Xavier Gipson and rookie Malachi Corley have been handling the No. 3 and 4 receiver duties behind target leaders Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams in recent weeks. Lazard will be fighting for scraps behind Adams and Wilson as well as running back Breece Hall (knee) and tight end Tyler Conklin once he's cleared for game action.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Returning to practice

The Jets designated Lazard (chest) for return from injured reserve Wednesday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports. Lazard will resume practicing with the team Wednesday, and the Jets will have 21 days to decide whether to activate him or keep his on IR for the rest of the season. For his part, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich noted Wednesday that he's hopeful the wideout will be ready by the end of the week. If Lazard is available for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, he would add depth to a wideout corps led by Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Officially placed on IR

The Jets have placed Lazard (chest) on IR, Ethan Greenberg of the team's official site reports. As a result, the soonest Lazard can return to action is Sunday, Dec. 8 against the Dolphins. While Lazard is sidelined, Garrett Wilson, Davante Adams and Mike Williams will continue to lead the Jets' wideout corps, with Xavier Gipson, Irvin Charles and Malachi Corley in reserve.

  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Reportedly headed to IR

The Jets are slated to place Lazard (chest) on IR, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Once the anticipated move is official, Lazard will be in line to miss at least four games, with his earliest possible return date being Sunday, Dec. 8 against the Dolphins. In Lazard's looming absence, Garrett Wilson, Davante Adams and Mike Williams will continue to lead the Jets' wideout corps. Prior to sustaining his injury, Lazard caught 30 of his 44 targets for 412 yards and five TDs in seven games.
... See More ... See Less
  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Labeled non-participant in practice

Lazard (chest) was listed as a non-participant on Tuesday's practice estimate, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Lazard's listing on Tuesday's report comes as no surprise, after interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich previously said the receiver is considered week-to-week. The 28-year-old appears unlikely to play Thursday against the Texans, but the Jets will provide official word on his status when they release their final Week 9 injury report Wednesday. If Lazard misses a second straight contest, Mike Williams would be in line to serve as the Jets' No. 3 wideout behind Davante Adams and Garrett Wilson.
... See More ... See Less
  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Inactive versus Patriots

Lazard (chest) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Patriots. Lazard, who didn't practice this past week, headed into the weekend listed as doubtful, so it's no surprise that he'll be sidelined versus the Patriots. In his absence, Mike Williams figures to join top WR options Garrett Wilson and Davante Adams in three-receiver sets, with added opportunities in the slot potentially on tap for Xavier Gipson when Wilson shifts to the outside. Also in the Jets' Week 8 WR mix are Xavier Gipson, Irvin Charles and Malachi Corley.
... See More ... See Less
  • Jets' Allen Lazard: Misses practice again

Lazard (chest) is not participating in Thursday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Lazard has now missed back-to-back practices due to a chest injury, a development that casts genuine uncertainty over his status for Sunday's road matchup against New England. If Lazard isn't able to suit up Week 8, Garrett Wilson and new teammate Davante Adams will possess a clearer path than usual to working as the unquestioned top targets in the wide receiver room for quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
