  • Clayton Thorson: Cut from practice squad

The Giants cut Thorson from their practice squad Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. With Daniel Jones (neck) doubtful and Mike Glennon (concussion) questionable for Week 14, the Giants elected to sign Thorson to their practice squad to provide emergency depth at quarterback. However, with both of the aforementioned signal callers progressing well ahead of Week 15, Thorson finds himself as the odd man out. In a corresponding move, the Giants signed Woodrow Hamilton to their practice squad.

  • Clayton Thorson: Signs with practice squad

Thorson signed with the Giants' practice squad Tuesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Thorson will provide some emergency depth at quarterback, as Daniel Jones (neck) is considered doubtful and Mike Glennon (concussion) is questionable for Sunday against the Chargers. With Jake Fromm on the 53-man roster and Brian Lewerke also on the practice squad, it's unlikely Thorson would be active Sunday if Jones and Glennon were to miss.

  • Giants' Clayton Thorson: Reverts to IR

Thorson (concussion) cleared waivers and reverted to the Giants' injured reserve Tuesday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Thorson suffered a concussion during Saturday's preseason opener and was waived/injured by the Giants on Monday, but he'll shift to injured reserve after going through waivers unclaimed. He'll missed the entire 2021 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team.

  • Clayton Thorson: Shifts to practice squad Monday

Thorson reverted to the Giants' practice squad Monday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. The second-year man out of Northwestern was made available as a depth option behind Colt McCoy for a Sunday night matchup against the Browns, with Daniel Jones (ankle) deemed inactive for the cross-conference showdown. Thorson didn't see game action, however, and he remains without an NFL pass attempt over stints with the Eagles, Cowboys and Giants.

  • Giants' Clayton Thorson: Bumps to active roster

The Giants elevated Thorson to the active roster Saturday. With Daniel Jones (hamstring) deemed doubtful for Sunday's game against the Seahawks, Thorson is expected to serve as Colt McCoy's backup. In his final year at Northwestern, Thorson completed 61 percent of his passes for 3,183 yards, 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He has yet to make his NFL debut.

  • Clayton Thorson: Cut by Cowboys

Thorson was let go by Dallas on Wednesday. Thorson earned a reserve/futures contract with the team this offseason after spending the 2019 season on the practice squad. Now that he was cut from the 53-man roster, he'll be a prime candidate to earn another practice squad spot for 2020.

  • Eagles' Clayton Thorson: Much improved in extended action

Thorson completed 16 of 26 passes for 175 yards with a touchdown and an interception in the Eagles' 24-10 preseason win over the Jaguars on Thursday. He also lost three yards on three rushes and fumbled twice, although both were recovered by the offense. As his final line implies, Thorson had some trouble holding onto the ball, but he ultimately only gave it away once. The rookie was pressed into action sooner than expected when Cody Kessler was forced from the contest with a head injury, leaving Thorson with extended duty. The Northwestern product seemed to adapt well to the circumstances, however, hitting Greg Ward, Jr. for a 38-yard touchdown and leading another three scoring drives on the night. With the Eagles potentially down Kessler in next week's preseason game versus the Ravens and already confirmed to be without Nate Sudfeld (wrist), Thorson could see significant time again versus Baltimore.

  • Eagles' Clayton Thorson: Heading to Philly

The Eagles selected Thorson in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft, 167th overall. Thorson was a four-year starter at Northwestern but he didn't seem to significantly improve from season to season. However, his less-than-stellar supporting cast may have played a role in that, not to mention the ACL injury he suffered in the 2017 Music City Bowl. In Philadelphia, Thorson will attempt to push Nate Sudfeld for the backup role behind Carson Wentz. The former Wildcat showed at his pro day in March that the ankle injury that impeded Thorson's combine training is a thing of the past.
