He was originally a third-round selection of Kansas City in 2016 but was cut during training camp that year and then spent three seasons with the Bengals, never appearing in more than eight games. Russell will now work to find a new team for the 2022 season.

  • Saints' KeiVarae Russell: Lands on COVID-19 list

Russell was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, Howard Balzer of SI.com reports. Russell tested positive for COVID-19, making him the first Saints player this summer to land on the list. This move may cause a chain reaction as players with close contact to him are placed on the list as a precaution. Russell didn't log a snap against the Ravens in the preseason opener and wasn't at practice Sunday. It is unclear how much time he may miss.

  • Bengals' KeiVarae Russell: Practices in full

Russell (finger) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Russell sat out Sunday's win over the Raiders due to the injury, but the fact that he's not limited for the first practice of Week 16 suggests he'll be ready to go this weekend in Cleveland. The depth cornerback typically makes his biggest impact on the Bengals' coverage units.

  • Bengals' KeiVarae Russell: Inactive for Sunday

Russell (hamstring) is listed as inactive for Sunday's game against the Packers. The Notre Dame product was released by the Chiefs 10 days ago, and he was picked up by the Bengals to be deployed as a special teams man. It's not clear when this injury was sustained, so it's difficult to project a timeline for Russell's recovery.
