Fantasy News

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Full practice Wednesday

Smith (shoulder/back) practiced fully Wednesday. Adam Schefter of ESPN previously reported that coach Pete Carroll said there was "a good chance" that Smith would rejoin the lineup Sunday against the Texans, and the QB's full practice participation Wednesday sets the stage for that to occur. With Smith inactive in Week 15, Kenny Pickett struggled to get the Raiders offense going in a 31-0 loss to Eagles (the team's eighth straight defeat). In his looming return to action, Smith only merits fantasy consideration in deeper, QB-friendly formats while facing a stout Houston defense.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Practicing Wednesday

Smith (shoulder/back) is returning to practice Monday, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports. Smith didn't practice at all last week, yet Raiders coach Pete Carroll said the veteran QB had "a really good chance to be back" for Week 16 against the Texans. It's arguably a matchup between the NFL's best defense and worst offense, but Smith's presence would at least be good news for fantasy managers that are relying on TE Brock Bowers or RB Ashton Jeanty.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Status for Week 16 uncertain

Raiders head coach Pete Carroll declined Monday to state whether Smith (shoulder/back) is expected to practice Wednesday or return to action for Sunday's matchup against the Texans, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports. Smith didn't practice in any capacity Week 15 before being ruled out for Las Vegas' blowout loss to the Eagles. Kenny Pickett will figure to draw another start if Smith is unable to return versus Houston on Sunday. Carroll had previously expressed optimism about Smith's chances of retaking the field Week 16, but it doesn't appear a more substantial update on the veteran quarterback's health will arrive until Wednesday's practice report is released.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Officially ruled out for Sunday

Smith (right shoulder/back) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Eagles. With Smith unavailable, coach Pete Carroll announced that Kenny Pickett will draw the start at quarterback against Philadelphia, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports. Though Smith didn't practice Wednesday through Friday prior to being ruled out, Carroll said that the veteran signal-caller has "a really good chance to be back next week" against the Texans.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Still not practicing

Smith (right shoulder/back) remained sidelined at practice Thursday, Ryan McFadden of ESPN.com reports. On Wednesday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport indicated that Smith is considered unlikely to start Sunday's game against the Eagles, and back-to-back 'DNPs' logged Wednesday and Thursday by the QB support that notion. If Smith is indeed unavailable this weekend, Kenny Pickett would be in line to make his first start of the season.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Unlikely to start this week

Smith (shoulder) won't practice Wednesday and is considered unlikely to start Sunday's game against the Eagles, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Kenny Pickett is thus in line to start against his former team, with Aidan O'Connell presumably taking over the backup role. Pickett replaced Smith after he suffered a shoulder injury late in the third quarter of Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Broncos.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Dealing with shoulder injury

Smith sustained a right shoulder injury during Sunday's 24-17 loss to the Broncos, Ryan McFadden of ESPN reports. Following the game, coach Pete Carroll said that Smith's shoulder "locked up" after he completed a pass late in the third quarter, which paved the way for Kenny Pickett to play the remainder of the contest. In terms of Smith's Week 15 status, Carroll noted that an early test revealed that the QB (who also sustained a cut on his right hand versus Denver) had avoided serious damage to his shoulder, while adding that he'll lean toward starting the veteran signal-caller Nov.14 against the Eagles, health permitting.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Hurts hand Sunday

Smith exited Sunday's game against the Broncos after sustaining a right hand injury. With Smith headed to the locker room, per Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Kenny Pickett is in at QB for the Raiders. Aidan O'Connell was designated the team's emergency No 3 QB on Sunday. Prior to his departure, Smith completed 13 of his 21 pass attempts for 116 yards and a TD and carried once for four yards.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Limited by foot injury

Smith (foot) was limited at practice Wednesday. It's unclear if the foot injury Smith is currently dealing with is something that stems from Week 13 action or an issue that occurred during Wednesday's practice, but the QB's status now is worth monitoring ahead of this weekend's game against the Broncos. In this past Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Chargers, Smith completed 18 of his 23 pass attempts for 165 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception The QB also rushed twice for minus-6 yards and a fumble that the Raiders recovered.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Tosses two TDs to Bowers

Smith completed 18 of 23 passes for 165 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's 31-14 loss to the Chargers. He also rushed twice for minus-6 yards and fumbled once but recovered it. Smith connected with Brock Bowers for a pair of six-yard touchdowns but also threw his 14th interception, which is tied with Tua Tagovailoa for the highest interception total in the NFL. This was only Smith's second multi-touchdown passing performance in his last eight starts, but he likely did enough to maintain the starting quarterback role in Week 14 against the elite Broncos defense. The 2-10 Raiders also have Kenny Pickett on the roster and got third-string quarterback Aidan O'Connell back from a preseason wrist injury prior to their Week 12 loss to the Browns.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Mixed bag in primetime loss

Smith completed 27 of 42 pass attempts for 238 yards, one touchdown and one interception while gaining 14 yards on four carries in Monday's 33-16 loss to the Cowboys. In the two games coming out of Las Vegas' bye week, Smith posted a four-score outing followed up by last week's forgettable showing against Denver (143 yards, one INT). The veteran signal-caller presented a version of himself on Monday Night Football that falls right in between his recent Jekyll and Hyde performances. Smith used garbage time to pad his stats while tossing his 12th touchdown pass and 13th interception of the season. The 34-year-old's inconsistent play coupled with a matchup against the league's stingiest defense (167.0 passing yards allowed per game) make Smith a poor fantasy play against the Browns in Week 12.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Not on injury report

Smith (quadriceps) isn't listed on the Raiders' Week 11 injury report. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Smith suffered a thigh bruise last Thursday against the Broncos, but the issue was downplayed afterward by coach Pete Carroll. With Smith not listed on this Thursday's injury report, the QB will be good to go Monday night against the 3-5-1 Cowboys, who have dropped two straight contests, most recently a 27-17 loss to the Cardinals in Week 9 in which Jacoby Brissett completed 21 of 31 pass attempts for 261 yards and two touchdowns, while logging five carries for four yards and a rushing score.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Practicing Thursday

Smith (quadriceps) is participating in practice Thursday, Levi Edwards of the Raiders' official site reports. Smith is dealing with a quad contusion sustained during Las Vegas' loss to the Broncos on Thursday Night Football in Week 10, so for him to be handling even limited practice reps is a positive sign. Thursday's official practice report will disclose Geno's activity level as he prepares to ramp up for a home matchup against the Cowboys on Monday night. At this stage, there doesn't appear to be serious reason for concern about Smith's availability.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Night may be done

Smith is questionable to return to Thursday's game against the Broncos with a quad injury. Smith has been under constant pressure throughout the game, but this injury occurred early in the fourth quarter on a scramble. After a two-play absence, he returned to the field but was visibly limping and in discomfort. Smith is officially questionable, but he was seen on the bench with his upper left leg wrapped and without a helmet.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Returns to game

Smith is back in Thursday's game against the Broncos after being evaluated for an apparent knee injury, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports. Smith was injured on a scramble early in the fourth quarter. He missed two plays but was ultimately cleared to return and is back under center for the Raiders.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Week 10 Waiver Priority List

Smith got Brock Bowers back from a three-game absence with a knee injury in Week 9 against Jacksonville and scored 34.3 Fantasy points. Smith has now played five games with Bowers, and he scored at least 19.5 Fantasy points in three of them. I don't want to start Smith in Week 10 at Denver, but he faces Dallas in Week 11, which is the best matchup for any quarterback. It's not a bad idea to stash Smith now for 1 percent of your remaining FAB and use him against the Cowboys next week. And I don't expect Smith's value to change much now that Jakobi Meyers is gone. As long as Bowers is healthy, Smith will be just fine when the matchup is in his favor.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: One To Stash (QB Preview)

Geno Smith looked much better with Brock Bowers healthy, go figure. Now that wasn't encouraging enough for us to start him against the Denver Broncos, but in Week 11, he gets the Cowboys. They are giving up 28.44 FPPG to QBs, and we just watched Jacoby Brissett score 28 Fantasy points against them on Monday night. There is no better QB stash for Week 11.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Responds with four TDs in OT loss

Smith completed 29 of 39 pass attempts for 284 yards, four touchdowns and an interception while taking five carries for nine yards in Sunday's 30-29 overtime loss to the Jaguars. Smith rebounded nicely from a historically poor performance against the Chiefs (67 passing yards, no touchdowns) in the Raiders' last appearance. The 34-year-old welcomed Brock Bowers (knee) back with open arms Sunday, hooking up in the end zone with his talented tight end on three separate occasions. The four passing touchdowns set a new single-game high for Smith since joining the silver and black this past offseason. It's been a true boom-or-bust situation for the veteran signal-caller in Las Vegas, as he has now finished with less than 200 passing yards in half of his eight starts. Managers should be wary of trusting Smith on a short week in a tough matchup against Denver on Thursday Night Football in Week 10.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Historically bad against Chiefs

Smith completed 10 of 16 passes for 67 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 31-0 loss to the Chiefs. He added two rushes for one yard. The futility of the Raiders offense can be stated in many different ways, and Smith was at the center of the lack of production. The unit ran only two offensive plays in Chiefs territory, totaled only three first downs, and ran only 30 offensive plays, the final of which was the second-fewest in the Super Bowl era, per Josh Dubow of The Associated Press. Needless to say, it was a disastrous fantasy performance, and Smith has now thrown for less than 200 yards in four of his seven starts and has zero scores in three contests. He was also replaced by Kenny Pickett late in the game due to the score, but there is no indication that the team is considering a change at quarterback.

  • Raiders' Geno Smith: Effective in win Sunday

Smith completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 174 yards, one touchdown and one interception while losing three yards on four carries in Sunday's 20-10 win over Tennessee. Smith got the Raiders back in the win column after a recent poor string of play had critics calling for a quarterback change in Las Vegas. The veteran signal-caller appears to have staved off a potential QB controversy with improved play against a struggling Titans squad Sunday. The 34-year-old still couldn't pitch a clean outing, throwing his 10th interception of campaign early in the fourth quarter. The late turnover didn't cost his team a chance at victory, meaning Smith should remain under center for a tough road matchup against the Chiefs next Sunday.
