Player Outlook
Taylor is the backup for Jets quarterback Justin Fields and should not be drafted in most Fantasy leagues. Should Fields get injured, Taylor offers intriguing rushing upside and would be worth adding in Superflex or two-QB leagues. Taylor performed well in limited starts with the Giants in 2023, scoring 19.7 or more points in three of five starts.

  • Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Could be ready for Week 1

Head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters Friday that he's "confident" that Taylor (knee) will be available for the Jets' regular-season opener against the Steelers on Sunday, Sept. 7, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports. Taylor is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery that has kept him sidelined since early August. There's optimism that he'll be available for Week 1 to serve as the Jets' backup quarterback behind starter Justin Fields. If Taylor isn't cleared to suit up, then the QB2 role would fall to either Adrian Martinez or Brady Cook unless the Jets opt to sign another signal-caller ahead of the regular-season opener.

  • Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Out for remainder of preseason

Taylor will not suit up this preseason while completing his recovery from arthroscopic knee surgery, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports. Coach Aaron Glenn said Tuesday the Jets are hoping Taylor will be available for Week 1, per Brian Costello of the New York Post, but iit will fall to Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook to handle quarterback reps behind starter Justin Fields for the remainder of the preseason. New York figures to add another signal-caller to the roster as temporary depth.

  • Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Sidelined by knee injury Monday

Taylor (knee) didn't practice Monday, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports. Taylor had previously worked as the backup to Justin Fields, who is viewed as the team's clear starter after signing a two-year contract with the Jets in the offseason. If Taylor isn't available for Saturday's preseason opener against the Packers, Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook would be in line for additional opportunities.

  • Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Makes just two appearances

Taylor appeared in two regular-season games for the Jets in 2024, completing 17 of 22 passes for 119 yards and three touchdowns, while rushing for 13 yards on three carries. The veteran QB remained on the sidelines for the vast majority of the season as Aaron Rodgers stayed healthy enough to start all 17 regular-season games. Taylor is under contract for next season, and assuming he remains with the Jets, will likely be competing for a backup job again behind whoever the team brings in to start, assuming they follow through with releasing Rodgers as expected.

  • Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Mops up in lopsided loss

Taylor completed 11 of 14 passes for 83 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 40-14 loss to the Bills. He also threw a two-point conversion while playing the fourth quarter. Taylor entered the game with the Jets trailing 40-0 in the fourth quarter and at least managed to deliver a modicum of respectability to the final stat line with two touchdown passes in as many drives. He connected with Garrett Wilson for a nine-yard score, then found Tyler Conklin for the two-point conversion before adding a 20-yard touchdown pass to Conklin. Rodgers is expected to start as usual against the Dolphins in Week 18, relegating Taylor back to the bench.

  • Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Week 14 Waiver Priority List

It's not a bad idea to stash Taylor heading into Week 14 at Miami just in case Aaron Rodgers is benched. Taylor could emerge as a starter in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues to close the season, and he's worth adding for at least 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Jets' Tyrod Taylor: Expected to join Jets

Taylor has agreed on terms on a two-year, $18 million deal with the Jets, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Taylor is staying in New York but will sport a different jersey. The journeyman signal-caller accumulated 1,399 yards and six touchdowns through the air across 14 games (five starts) during his two-year stint with the Giants. With 58 career starts under his belt, he's a safe veteran choice to back up Aaron Rodgers (Achilles), as the Jets were determined to improve in that department following the 2023 season.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Nearly reaches 300 yards in win

Taylor completed 23 of 32 passes for 297 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Sunday's 27-10 win over the Eagles. He added 38 rushing yards on eight carries. The veteran quarterback might have topped 300 yards for the second straight game, but he briefly left late in the first quarter to get his thumb checked out, and Tommy DeVito completed a five-yard pass in his absence. Taylor, who has played for five teams over the last seven seasons alone, will be a free agent in the offseason and isn't likely to return to the Giants with DeVito and Daniel Jones (knee) on the depth chart, but the 34-year-old showed in 2023 he can still be effective and likely won't have much trouble landing elsewhere.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Sleeper QBs

The last two games that Taylor started and finished he scored at least 20.8 Fantasy points. He reached that total in Week 17 against the Rams, and he had 11.4 Fantasy points in the second half against the Eagles in Week 16 when he replaced Tommy DeVito. He should give you production with his legs -- he's run for at least 21 yards in each of his past five significant appearances -- and Philadelphia is No. 1 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks. I like Taylor as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy quarterback in all leagues.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Reps capped again Thursday

Taylor (back) was a limited participant in Thursday's practice, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports. Taylor's practice reps were managed for the second day in a row, and even though he's already been named the Giants' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Eagles, he may need to put in a full practice Friday to approach the season finale without a designation. The Giants re-signed Jacob Eason to their practice squad Thursday to provide depth at quarterback in case Taylor can't play this weekend, though Tommy DeVito would be the next man up to start.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

The last two games that Taylor started and finished he scored at least 20.8 Fantasy points.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Listed as limited Wednesday

Taylor (back) was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's estimated injury report, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. Earlier Wednesday, head coach Brian Daboll named Taylor the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Eagles, suggesting that the Giants don't anticipate the back injury hindering the signal-caller's availability for the season finale. Nonetheless, Taylor's participation level in practice Thursday and Friday will be worth monitoring as the Giants prepare for a rematch with a reeling Philadelphia defense against whom Taylor threw for 133 yards in one half of action two weeks ago.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Getting Week 18 start

Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Taylor will remain the team's starting quarterback for Sunday's season finale versus the Eagles, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports. Though the Giants have been eliminated from playoff contention, Daboll will stick with the veteran signal-caller in Week 18 rather than pivoting back to undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito. While making his fourth start and 10th appearance of the season in this past Sunday's 26-25 loss to the Rams, Taylor completed 27 of 41 passes for 319 yards, one touchdown and one interception while adding 40 yards on six rushing attempts.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Week 18 Waiver Priority List

Taylor just scored 20.8 Fantasy points against the Rams in Week 17, and he had 11.4 Fantasy points in the second half against the Eagles in Week 16 when he replaced Tommy DeVito. He should give you production with his legs -- he's run for at least 21 yards in each of his past five significant appearances -- and Philadelphia is No. 1 in most Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Adds/Streamers (QB Preview)

Taylor has now started and finished three games for the Giants this season. He's topped 20 Fantasy points in two of three and he's averaged 266 passing yards and 33 rushing yards per game. Add in the cake matchup and Taylor is a fine starting option.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Sleeper QBs

The last time Taylor started a game was Week 7 against Washington, and he scored 25.7 Fantasy points with 279 passing yards and two touchdowns, along with 25 rushing yards. He looked good in relief of Tommy DeVito in Week 16 at Philadelphia with 133 passing yards, one touchdown and one interception, along with 21 rushing yards, and he has a great matchup in Week 17 against the Rams. Five quarterbacks in a row have scored at least 20.2 Fantasy points against the Rams, and Taylor is a good desperation play at quarterback in this matchup.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Activated but will be backup Monday

Taylor (ribs) was activated from injured reserve Monday, but he will back up Tommy DeVito in Monday's game against the Packers, Charlotte Carroll of The Athletic reports. Taylor is back on the active roster after a full week of practice, but he'll remain in a reserve role Monday. DeVito won his last two starts prior to the Giants' bye, while Taylor posted a record of 1-2 as a starter prior to his stint on IR.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Clear for Monday, but still on IR

Taylor (ribs), who remains on injured reserve, doesn't have a designation for Monday's game against the Packers. After the Giants designated him for return from IR on Monday, Taylor proceeded to log full practices Thursday through Saturday. Along the way, coach Brian Daboll called Tommy DeVito the team's starting quarterback for Week 14, thus relegating Taylor to backup duties, assuming he's activated. New York has until 4:00 p.m. ET on Monday to make such a transaction and get Taylor back on the active roster.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Designated for return

The Giants announced Monday that Taylor (ribs) has been designated to return from IR. Taylor enters the mix to potentially start versus the Dolphins on Monday Night Football. Undrafted rookie Tommy Devito is riding a two-game winning streak however, so a quarterback change may be unlikely for New York. Taylor did perform adequately when healthy earlier this season, so it wouldn't be out of the question for him to get another crack at the starting job this season. The veteran QB hasn't played since Week 8 due to an injury to his rib cage.

  • Giants' Tyrod Taylor: Expects to return this season

Taylor said Thursday that his rib injury is "not season-ending in my mind," Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports. Earlier this week, Giants head coach Brian Daboll was non-committal about Taylor playing again this season, but the quarterback stated Thursday that nobody in the organization has indicated that his campaign could be over. Taylor is on IR and isn't eligible to play until Week 14 versus Green Bay, and there could be little motivation for New York to expedite his return in what is looking like a lost season, as the club currently sits in last place in the NFC East at 2-7. Daniel Jones tore his ACL this past Sunday versus the Raiders and is out for the remainder of the campaign, so undrafted rookie Tommy DeVito is set to take the helm behind center for the foreseeable future.
