  • Deebo Samuel WR | WAS

Commanders' Deebo Samuel: Listed as non-participant

Samuel (heel) is listed as a non-participant on Wednesday's practice report.

He played through the same injury the past two games, putting up an 8-96-1 receiving line in Week 5 before slumping to 4-15-0 in Week 6. Samuel topped 70 percent snap share in both games, but the Commanders might ease up on his workload some if the heel continues to give him trouble and WR Terry McLaurin (quad) is available to pick up slack. McLaurin is returning to practice this week, but it isn't yet clear if he'll be ready for Sunday's game at Dallas. Samuel also needs to be monitored, with serious concern if he doesn't return to practice Friday.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: To be limited Wednesday

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy (toe) will be limited at Wednesday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Purdy has been battling a turf toe injury for most of the season, sitting out Weeks 2-3 and 5-6 as a result. He was able to log conditioning work on the side last Thursday, and Shanahan told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com on Monday that Purdy would be evaluated Wednesday to see if taking part in practice was possible. Now that Purdy has resumed on-field work, Shanahan said Purdy is more limited than backup QB Mac Jones (knee/oblique), per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. It's unclear if that means Jones is a better bet than Purdy to start Sunday's game against the Falcons, but the latter at least is putting himself in a position to return to action.

  • 49ers' Jauan Jennings: Limited in practice

San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan said Jennings (ribs) will be limited in practice Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Jennings played through five broken ribs during the 49ers' loss to Tampa Bay in Week 6, a contest in which he handled 77 percent of offensive snaps but secured just one of three targets for seven yards. While Jennings may again manage to play through his injuries at home against the Falcons on Sunday, he's combined for just three grabs for 31 yards (on seven targets) in his last two appearances. Meanwhile, Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Skyy Moore (undisclosed) are not practicing Wednesday.

  • Terry McLaurin WR | WAS

Commanders' Terry McLaurin: Listed as limited

McLaurin (quadriceps) is listed as a limited participant on Wednesday's practice report.

The report is just an estimate after the Commanders held a walk-through. McLaurin is expected to resume practicing in earnest Thursday, although presumably with limitations. Commanders coach Dan Quinn said Wednesday that he isn't sure if McLaurin will be ready for Sunday's game at Dallas.

  • Jalen Coker WR | CAR

Panthers' Jalen Coker: Looks good in practice

Coker (quadriceps) was a full practice participant Wednesday, with Panthers coach Dave Canales saying afterward that the wideout looked great, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.

Coker was a full practice participant throughout last week but didn't get activated from injured reserve for Sunday's win over the Cowboys. He'll likely be ready this Sunday against the Jets, although Canales didn't commit to anything and said Coker will continue to be evaluated as the week progresses.

  • Jonathan Jones CB | WAS

Commanders' Jonathan Jones: Practice window opens

The Commanders designated Jones (hamstring) to return to practice from IR on Wednesday.

Jones now has a 21-day window to be evaluated at practice without counting against the 53-man roster, within which Washington can activate him from IR at any time. Once fully recovered from the hamstring injury he sustained Week 2 against the Packers, Jones is expected to resume contributing on special teams and in a depth role on defense. If he's able to resume practicing in full immediately, he could return to action as early as Sunday versus the Cowboys.

  • Rico Dowdle RB | CAR

Panthers' Rico Dowdle: No assurance of starting Week 7

Panthers coach Dave Canales didn't answer Wednesday when reporters asked him if Dowdle will start Sunday's game against the Jets, Steve Reed of the Associated Press reports.

Chuba Hubbard (calf) returned to practice Wednesday as a limited participant, after Dowdle ran for 389 yards over the past two weeks. Hubbard was excellent last season and didn't do anything this September to warrant a benching, but the massive extent of Dowdle's recent production nonetheless creates questions about what the Carolina backfield will look like moving forward. The split for Week 7 won't necessarily be the split for the rest of the season, of course, and there may be room for multiple RBs to put up solid numbers against a subpar Jets defense.

  • Darius Slayton WR | NYG

Giants' Darius Slayton: No practice Wednesday

Slayton (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

Slayton injured his hamstring during the Giants' Week 5 loss at New Orleans and hasn't practiced in the meantime, sitting out last Thursday's win against the Eagles in the process. He'll have two more chances this week to mix into drills before New York potentially makes a ruling on his status for Sunday's game at Denver.

  • Noah Fant TE | CIN

    Bengals' Noah Fant: Opportunity knocks

Fant is primed to handle additional snaps, routes and targets beginning Thursday versus the Steelers with Cincinnati having placed Mike Gesicki (pectoral) on injured reserve.

Fant played 50 percent of offensive snaps and secured all four of his targets for 27 yards during the Bengals' loss to the Packers in Week 6, showing solid chemistry with new quarterback Joe Flacco. Gesicki played just two offensive snaps before being forced out versus Green Bay, so it's reasonable to project Fant for a similar role, at the least, at home against Pittsburgh on Thursday Night Football. With reserve tight end Tanner Hudson (concussion) out Thursday, it's possible Fant benefits from another uptick in opportunities as Cincinnati's top TE.

  • Travis Hunter WR | JAC

Jaguars' Travis Hunter: Ready for larger role?

Jaguars coach Liam Coen said Wednesday that he plans to design and call more plays with Hunter as the first read, ESPN's Michael DiRocco reports.

Hunter had career highs for snap share (79 percent) and route share (88 percent) in Sunday's loss to Seattle, but his seven targets largely came near the line of scrimmage (4.0 aDOT) and led to a meager 4-15-0 receiving line. He's already getting a few schemed touches each week, yet has a much lower per-route target rate (19 percent) than teammates Brian Thomas (24 percent), Parker Washington (25 percent), Travis Etienne (23 percent) and Bhayshul Tuten (29 percent). The Jaguars could look to get Hunter more deep/intermediate targets, but that won't necessarily be easy to do against a tough Rams defense this Sunday in London.
