Saints' Charlie Smyth: Saints add Carlson for kicking competition
The Saints signed Daniel Carlson to a contract Monday, and Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports that the move indicates that Smythe may not be New Orleans' kicker for the upcoming season.
Smythe joined New Orleans in 2024 through the International Player Pathway and took over as the team's kicker over the final five games of the 2025 regular season, going 12-for-16 on field-goal attempts and 13-for-13 on extra-point tries. However, Smythe was unable to separate himself from Tanner Brown in the kicking competition in training camp, and the Saints have elected add Carlson into the mix. The Saints should confirm who their kicker is for the regular season following Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys.

Saints' Rejzohn Wright: Moves to IR
Wright (hip) was put on injured reserve by the Saints on Monday.
The cornerback suffered a hip injury earlier in training camp that will now require season-ending surgery. White logged 35 special-teams snaps for New Orleans in 2025, but he did not record a tackle.

Saints' Oscar Delp: Dealing with hamstring injury
Delp is nursing a hamstring injury at training camp with the Saints, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports.
Delp has caught three of six targets for 10 yards and a touchdown over the Saints' two preseason games this year, though all of that production came in the team's preseason opener. The 23-year-old was selected in the third round of this year's draft, and he's competing with veteran Noah Fant for the top reserve role at tight end behind Juwan Johnson this year. It's unclear what the severity of his injury is, but Delp will have a couple of chances to shake off the injury at practice before Friday's preseason finale versus Dallas.

Saints' Audric Estime: Returns to practice Monday
Estime (ankle) participated in practice Monday, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports.
Estime had missed some time due to an ankle injury, but the running back's return to Monday's walkthrough session will enable him to re-enter the depth equation in a New Orleans backfield that's dealing with several injuries. In seven regular-season games with the Saints last season, Estime carried 46 times for 198 yards and one touchdown, adding 12 catches for 102 yards.

Saints' Ty Chandler: Could miss time with knee injury
Chandler suffered a knee injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Rams that is feared to be serious, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports.
The report notes that Chandler is still being evaluated, but the expectation is that he will miss some time. The running back had been competing for a depth role in the Saints' banged-up backfield, and since he sustained his injury, the team added Zamir White via a trade with the 49ers.

Saints' Daniel Carlson: Catches on with New Orleans
Carlson agreed to a contract with the Saints on Monday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
A two-time All-Pro selection with the Raiders, Carlson will add a more battled-tested option to a Saints kicker competition that includes incumbent Charlie Smyth and Tanner Brown. The 31-year-old Carlson had been unsigned since May, and even after a down year with Las Vegas in 2025, he's still converted his field-goal attempts at a stellar 86.9 percent clip through his first eight NFL seasons.

Saints' Zamir White: Moving to Saints in trade
White is being traded from San Francisco to New Orleans on Sunday in exchange for linebacker Deion Jones, per sources, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
White signed with San Francisco on Aug. 12 and is moving to New Orleans in a trade less than two weeks later. The 2022 fourth-round pick of the Raiders rushed for 451 yards in the 2023 regular season, but he compiled only 285 yards across three other campaigns. The Saints are banged up in the backfield, with Alvin Kamara (knee), Devin Neal (hamstring) and Audric Estime (ankle) all sidelined, leaving the oft-injured Kendre Miller as the top healthy backup to Travis Etienne prior to White's arrival.

Saints' Torricelli Simpkins: Enters concussion protocol
Simpkins has entered the league's concussion protocol following the Saints' 34-0 loss to the Rams in Saturday's preseason game, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Simpkins will have to make his way through the league's five-step protocol -- with the last step being an evaluation and clearance by an independent neurologist -- in order to play in Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys. Simpkins appeared in 15 regular-season games (two starts) for the Saints as an undrafted rookie last year.

Saints' Brien Taylor: Injures neck in preseason loss
Taylor was diagnosed with a neck injury following the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Taylor sustained the injury while tackling Rams running back Jarquez Hunter midway through the fourth quarter. Taylor will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, but his status is in doubt for Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys. He has logged two tackles across two preseason games and is battling for a rotational role on the Saints' defensive line.

Saints' Lorenzo Styles: Tweaks calf in Saturday's loss
Styles sustained a calf injury during the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Styles will undergo tests over the next couple of days to determine the severity of his calf injury, which could prevent the rookie fifth-rounder from playing in Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys. He finished Saturday's game with six tackles (four solo) and one pass defense.

Saints' Devin Neal: Diagnosed with hamstring injury
Neal sustained a hamstring injury during the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Neal appeared to pick up the injury following a four-yard carry during the first quarter of Saturday's contest. The 2025 sixth-rounder will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, but it puts him in jeopardy of missing the Saints' preseason finale against the Cowboys on Friday. With Alvin Kamara (knee) and Audric Estime (ankle) also dealing with injuries, Kendre Miller figures to pick up the bulk of rotational backfield snaps behind Travis Etienne, with Ty Chandler and CJ Donaldson in the mix for reps.

Saints' Bub Means: Picks up hamstring injury Saturday
Means injured his hamstring during Saturday's 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
Means went to the blue medical tent during Saturday's game and did not return, finishing with one catch on four targets for five yards. He'll undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury, but it puts him in jeopardy of missing the Saints' preseason finale against the Cowboys on Friday.

Saints' Moliki Matavao: Sustains knee injury
Matavao was diagnosed with a knee injury following the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
It's unclear when Matavao tweaked his knee, but he'll undergo more tests over the coming days to determine the severity of the injury and whether he'll be available for the Saints' preseason finale against the Cowboys on Friday. The 2025 seventh-rounder finished Saturday's game with three catches on as many targets for 34 yards.

Saints' Kendre Miller: Leads NOLA rushers Saturday
Miller turned six carries into 22 yards and did not haul in his lone target during the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday. He also returned one kickoff for 29 yards.
Travis Etienne joined Alvin Kamara (knee) and Audric Estime (ankle) on the sidelines for Saturday's contest, with Miller being named the starting running back. Miller led all Saints running backs in rushing yards, though the only carry he had that went for 10-plus yards late in the first quarter was nullified by a holding penalty. Devin Neal left Saturday's contest due to a hamstring injury, and coupled with Estime's ankle issue, that puts Miller in a good position to secure his spot on the Saints' 53-man roster as the team's RB3 behind Etienne and Kamara. The Saints wrap up the preseason Friday on the road against the Cowboys.

Saints' Spencer Rattler: Throws pick-six in Saturday's loss
Rattler completed 14 of 23 passes for 141 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception while adding five carries for 21 yards during the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday.
Rattler was the Saints' starter in the team's preseason opener against the Jaguars, but Zach Wilson had that honor for Saturday's game in Los Angeles, with Tyler Shough observing the game in street cloths. Rattler opened the second half with a steady series to lead the Saints into the red zone, only for his pass intended for Treyton Welch to be intercepted off by Al'zillion Hamilton, who returned it for a 100-yard pick-six. Rattler was able to get the Saints back into the red zone twice more in the second half, but neither drive ended in points for New Orleans. Given the inconsistency of Wilson and Rattler between the Saints' first two exhibition games, the backup job behind Tyler Shough appears to be up in the air heading into Friday's preseason finale against the Cowboys.

Saints' Zach Wilson: Throws interception against Rams
Wilson completed six of 12 passes for 55 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception while adding four carries for 19 yards during the Saints' 34-0 loss to the Rams on Saturday.
Wilson was named the starter for Saturday's exhibition contest while Tyler Shough observed the game from the sidelines. Wilson failed to lead the offense into the Rams' territory in three of four series, and his short pass intended for Bub Means early in the second quarter was picked off by Al'zillion Hamilton, leading to a one-yard rushing touchdown by Stetson Bennett nine plays later. Spencer Rattler was statistically better than Wilson after taking over in the second half, with the former leading a drive deep into the red zone before throwing a pick-six, and it appears as though the backup job behind Shough is far from a done deal. Wilson will have the opportunity to secure the QB2 job in the Saints' preseason finale against the Cowboys on Friday.

Saints' Bryce Lance: Tallies two catches in preseason debut
Lance caught both of his targets for 16 yards during the Saints' 34-0 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday.
Lance missed the Saints' preseason opener against the Jaguars due to an undisclosed injury, but he was cleared to play against Los Angeles. Several Saints starters -- including wide receivers Chris Olave, Devaughn Vele and rookie first-rounder Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) -- were idle for Saturday's exhibition contest, so Lance joined Bub Means and Kevin Austin as the starters at wide receiver. Lance didn't get off to a great start with a holding penalty late in the first quarter, but he did haul in a nice 12-yard pass from Zach Wilson on the final play of the frame. Lance worked with the Saints' first-team offense earlier in the week during joint practice with the Cowboys, and the North Dakota State product could be the team's WR3 behind Olave and Vele for the first few games of the regular season, considering Tyson is expected to miss several weeks due to his hamstring injury. The Saints will wrap up the preseason this Friday against the Cowboys in Dallas.
