  • Garrett Wilson WR | NYJ

Jets' Garrett Wilson: Likely returning soon

Wilson (ankle) is expected to fully participate in the upcoming joint practices against the Panthers on Wednesday or Thursday, Andy Vasquez of The Bergen Record reports.

Wilson was supposed to return to practice Saturday, but it seems as if the Jets are taking a cautious approach with the stud wide receiver. The second-year target suffered a low-ankle sprain July 27 and has yet to participate in organized activities, but he's been spotted on numerous occasions doing work on the sidelines. It's unclear if the team expects Wilson to participate in the Jets' second preseason contest Aug. 12.

  • Tre'Quan Smith WR | DET

Saints' Tre'Quan Smith: Exits practice with groin injury

Smith suffered a groin injury and was forced out of Saturday's practice early, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Head coach Dennis Allen seemed to suggest the issue was minor, although he declined to give a relative timeframe of return. The sixth-year wideout is one of the elder statesmen of the group alongside oft-injured Michael Thomas, but provided the two remain healthy, the duo could be part of one of the better Saints receiving corps in recent memory, with second-year standouts Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed (groin) in tow, along with the athletically gifted sixth-round rookie A.T. Perry waiting in the wings. Early reports during training camp suggest the Saints offense is operating on all cylinders with new starter Derek Carr.

  • Rashid Shaheed WR | SEA

Saints' Rashid Shaheed: Unable to finish Saturday's practice

Shaheed did not finish Saturday's practice after suffering a groin injury, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports.

Tre'Quan Smith also left Saturday's practice early with a groin issue, but Shaheed's is far more noteworthy given the second-year wideout missed nearly a month with a similar groin injury during OTAs. Head coach Dennis Allen didn't seem concerned and suggested the injury was likely minor. Provided Shaheed is available Week 1, the Saints could have one of the deepest receiver rooms in recent memory with star wideouts Chris Olave and Michael Thomas joined by Smith, Shaheed and intriguing rookie A.T. Perry.

  • Jalen Wayne WR | GB

Browns' Jalen Wayne: Latches on with Cleveland

The Browns signed Wayne on Friday.

An undrafted rookie out of South Alabama, Wayne was let go from the Bills last week but finds a new home in Cleveland after the Browns lost Daylen Baldwin (hamstring) to an injury Thursday night. Wayne is likely just preseason and camp depth.

  • Rashod Bateman WR | BAL

Ravens' Rashod Bateman: Could practice soon

Coach John Harbaugh noted Friday that Bateman (foot) has "chance to be out there pretty soon," Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com reports.

The Ravens placed Bateman on the active/PUP list to start training camp, but it appears as though he's inching toward a return to practice. That said, Harbaugh declined to give a precise timeframe for when that might occur, so at this stage, the wideout's status for the team's preseason opener (Aug. 12, against the Eagles) remains cloudy.

  • Seahawks' Dee Eskridge: Suspended six games

Eskridge has been suspended six games for a violation of the NFL's personal conduct policy, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

The 2021 second-round pick can still practice this summer and play in preseason games but won't be eligible to make his regular-season debut until Oct. 29 against the Browns. It probably doesn't change much for the Seattle offense, as Eskridge is no better than fourth on a depth chart that includes WRs DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

  • Xavier Gipson WR | NYG

Jets' Xavier Gipson: Mixed bag in debut

Gipson failed to catch either of his two targets in Thursday's 21-16 preseason loss to Cleveland. He added one kickoff return for 45 yards and a punt return for no gain.

Gipson has been a standout player in camp with the Jets, and his speed could earn the undrafted rookie a role as a gadget player. He muffed his punt return and had a foot out of bounds by the time he regathered the ball, but Gipson made up for that mistake with an electric 45-yard kickoff return in the final minute of the first half to set up a field goal. Gipson will look to leave a larger impression on offense in the next preseason game, which will be Aug. 12 in Carolina.

  • Alex Erickson WR | HOU

Jets' Alex Erickson: Shows off speed in preseason opener

Erickson caught one of two targets for 19 yards and returned two punts for 45 yards in Thursday's 21-16 preseason loss to Cleveland.

Erickson's catch came in the two-minute drill in the first half, and he provided a fourth-quarter spark by breaking off a 36-yard punt return. The 30-year-old wide receiver's ability to contribute on special teams has him in contention for a spot on the back end of New York's 53-man roster, though he's still fighting an uphill battle in that regard heading into the team's second preseason game, Aug. 12 against the Panthers.

  • Charlie Jones WR | CIN

Bengals' Charlie Jones: Diagnosed with shoulder issue

Coach Zac Taylor said Jones is considered "day-to-day" with a shoulder injury, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.

Jones was carted off Thursday but appears to have avoided anything serious. Selected in the fourth round of the 2023 Draft, Jones is competing for returner duties and a role on offense behind Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd.

  • Malik Taylor WR | DET

Jets' Malik Taylor: Makes 57-yard grab

Taylor caught one of two targets for 57 yards in Thursday's 21-16 preseason loss to the Browns.

Taylor made a nice catch on a deep ball down the sideline from Zach Wilson in the first quarter. The former Packers wide receiver remains a long shot to make the Jets' roster, but Taylor made a nice impression in the preseason opener, as no other Jet reached 20 receiving yards.
