Marquise Brown WR | PHI
Chiefs' Marquise Brown: Won't require surgery
Coach Andy Reid said Monday that Brown (shoulder) is back in Kansas City and won't require surgery after having injured his left shoulder Saturday, Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star reports.
Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint injury during Saturday's preseason game versus the Jaguars, which Matt Derrick of ChiefsDigest.com reports was able to be reduced by doctors in Jacksonville. Coach Andy Reid said that back in the 2019 season, former Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill dealt with a similar injury, which required him to miss Weeks 2-5. Reid only said "we'll see" with regard to Brown's status for Week 1, per Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com, but it looks like the 27-year-old's recovery timetable could jeopardize his availability for the start of the regular season. As long as Brown remains sidelined, added first-team reps figure to be available for Justin Watson, Skyy Moore and Kadarius Toney (back) behind Rashee Rice, who remains at risk of a suspension, and rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy.

Malik Heath WR | ATL
Packers' Malik Heath: Makes two receptions
Heath was targeted four times and caught two passes for 22 yards in Saturday's preseason opener against the Browns.
Heath did not draw a target until the second quarter of Saturday's contest, but he wound up playing 38 snaps -- the second most among Packers wideouts. Heath entered training camp as Green Bay's presumptive sixth option at the wide receiver spot, but he is being pushed for the spot by fellow sophomore Grant DuBose, who led the team in receiving Saturday.

Odell Beckham Jr. WR | MIA
Dolphins' Odell Beckham: Won't practice this week
Coach Mike McDaniel said Monday that Beckham (undisclosed) won't practice this week, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.
Beckham remains on the active/PUP list and is still considered week-to-week. Reports in July suggested there wasn't much concern about his Week 1 availability, but that may have changed now that he's still not practicing after three weeks of training camp. There hasn't been any update on the exact nature of Beckham's injury or injuries.

Malik Nabers WR | NYG
Giants' Malik Nabers: Considered day-to-day
Coach Brian Daboll said Monday that Nabers (ankle) is "sore" and considered day-to-day, Patricia Traina of SI.com reports.
Nabers reportedly sprained his ankle during Sunday's practice, and while he won't participate Monday, it sounds like the Giants aren't at all concerned about a lengthy absence. He played three drives in Thursday's preseason opener against the Lions, finishing without a target on 12 snaps.

Grant DuBose WR | BUF
Packers' Grant DuBose: Leading receiver in opener
DuBose was targeted six times and caught five passes for 66 yards in Saturday's preseason opener against the Browns.
DuBose had been something of an afterthought in Green Bay's deep receiver room, but he made a strong statement in the first preseason contest while leading the Packers in all of targets, receptions and receiving yardage. It will be tough for DuBose to really make a mark if his counterparts stay healthy, but he is in the mix with Malik Heath and Samori Toure for the sixth spot on the depth chart.

Xavier Legette WR | CAR
Panthers' Xavier Legette: Returns to practice
Legette (foot) returned to practice Monday morning, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.
Legette left practice early Aug. 4 and missed Thursday's 17-3 preseason loss to New England. He'll now have five days to prepare for the Panthers' second preseason game this Saturday against the Jets, and there's still time to make a run at a starting job. The lengthy list of starters held out of the preseason opener didn't include WR Jonathan Mingo, who played against the Patriots despite repping with the first-team offense in practice this summer. Mingo took one carry for six yards and dropped his only target.

Anthony Gould WR | IND
Colts' Anthony Gould: Gets time with first-team offense
Gould worked with the first-team offense as a receiver but was not targeted with a pass in Sunday's preseason loss to Denver, the Indianapolis Star reports. He had five kickoff returns for a 27.6 yard average and one punt return for nine yards.
The 2024 fifth-round draft pick was seen mostly as a candidate for special teams as a star punt and kickoff returner, but has been working with the first-team offense in training camp at times as a receiver. He could take over the punt return job if Josh Downs misses regular season games due to a high ankle sprain.
-
Alec Pierce WR | IND
Colts' Alec Pierce: Starting role in preseason opener
Pierce started at wide receiver along with Adonai Mitchell and Michael Pittman in Sunday's preseason loss to Denver. He didn't have a reception on one target.
With Josh Downs sidelined with a high ankle sprain, both Mitchell and Pierce should play significant snaps with Mitchell moving to the slot receiver role. Pierce and Mitchell are competing for the No. 3 receiver role, but the competition may be delayed if Downs misses regular-season games. Pierce has underwhelmed in his two seasons with the Colts, averaging just 554 yards and two touchdowns per year, so there's some risk his role could decrease.

Jordan Whittington WR | LAR
Rams' Jordan Whittington: Shines in preseason opener
Whittington caught six of nine targets for 74 yards in Sunday's 13-12 preseason win over the Cowboys.
The 2024 sixth-round pick led the Rams in catches, targets and receiving yards, including a 30-yard gain on the team's opening drive, but that performance came during a game in which Cooper Kupp, Puka Nacua (knee), Demarcus Robinson and Tutu Atwell were all sitting out. Whittington has been making a strong impression at training camp and is on course to claim a spot on the 53-man roster, but he's still unlikely to see much action early in the regular season.

Jalen Brooks WR | ARI
Cowboys' Jalen Brooks: Leading receiver in preseason loss
Brooks caught both his targets for 49 yards in Sunday's 13-12 preseason loss to the Rams.
With CeeDee Lamb still holding out and Brandin Cooks and Jalen Tolbert both sitting this one out along with most of the Cowboys' other offensive starters, Brooks got the start at wideout and caught a 43-yard strike from Cooper Rush on the team's opening drive. The second-year wideout then hooked up with Trey Lance for a short completion on Dallas' second possession before Brooks called it a day. The South Carolina product appears to have a fairly firm hold on the No. 4 spot on the depth chart, but that job could become more interesting from a fantasy perspective if Lamb's absence extends into the regular season, or he isn't quite up to speed by Week 1.
