  • Boston Scott RB | PIT

Eagles' Boston Scott: Works as lead back

Scott rushed 12 times for 46 yards and brought in three of five targets for 46 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' 22-21 win over the Giants on Thursday night.

With Miles Sanders (knee) out of action, Scott had an opportunity to take on lead-back duties versus a team that he racked up three rushing touchdowns against in Week 17. On this occasion, Scott found the end zone only once and did so through the air, and he did so at the most critical time possible. The 25-year-old reeled in a perfectly thrown but contested 18-yard pass down the right sideline with 40 seconds left with what turned out to be a game-winning touchdown. If Sanders isn't available to return for a Week 8 battle against the Cowboys on Sunday, Nov. 1, it appears Scott is certainly the prime candidate to helm the backfield once again in what would be a very favorable matchup.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

49ers' Jeff Wilson: Another limited practice

Wilson (calf) was a limited practice participant Thursday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Before he was deemed inactive this past Sunday against the Rams, Wilson didn't practice Thursday or Friday due to his calf issue. He's been able to get in some reps in both sessions so far this week, with one remaining before the 49ers likely will give him a designation for Sunday's game at New England. If he's active, he'll join Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty in a backfield without Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Tevin Coleman (knee).

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: Spectator for practice

Mostert (ankle) isn't participating in Thursday's practice, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Mostert's absence from practice for the second day in a row comes as little surprise after coach Kyle Shanahan admitted earlier this week that Mostert will likely be forced to injured reserve due to the left high-ankle sprain he sustained in the 49ers' Week 6 win over the Rams. Jerick McKinnon (32 percent snap share) and JaMycal Hasty (21 percent) saw the majority of the backfield reps after Mostert went down with the injury, suggesting Shanahan could be leaning toward a committee approach at the position while the top option is sidelined. McKinnon had previously taken on a three-down role when Mostert was sidelined for a pair of games earlier in the season.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Sitting out practice Thursday

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said Mixon (foot) will miss a second consecutive practice Thursday, Maria Ridenour of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Missing a Wednesday practice isn't necessarily a concern, but sitting out back-to-back practices on the heels of having to leave the Week 6 loss to the Colts makes Mixon's status more worrisome. Even if Mixon gains clearance for Sunday's game against the Browns, fantasy managers may be somewhat uncomfortable with keeping him in lineups.

  • Jeff Wilson RB | MIA

49ers' Jeff Wilson: Logs limited practice

Wilson (calf) was limited at Wednesday's practice, Keiana Martin of the 49ers' official site reports.

Currently, the 49ers are without Tevin Coleman (knee) and Raheem Mostert (ankle), so Wilson would be in line for work Week 7 if he can get past his own calf injury. If he does, Wilson will join Jerick McKinnon and JaMycal Hasty as backfield options for San Francisco on Sunday at New England.

  • Melvin Gordon RB | BAL

    Broncos' Melvin Gordon: Practicing fully

Gordon (illness) isn't listed on the Broncos' Week 7 injury report released Wednesday.

Gordon missed Sunday's win over the Patriots due to a case of strep throat, but he was back at practice Wednesday. Now that he's working at full capacity again, Gordon is poised to rejoin the lineup this weekend against the Chiefs, though he may not be in store for the 60-plus-percent snap shares he enjoyed Weeks 1 through 4. Phillip Lindsay returned from a three-game absence to log 23 carries for 101 yards Week 6, perhaps making a case for a larger share of the backfield work even with Gordon back in the fold. It's also worth noting that Gordon could incur punishment down the road from the NFL after he was cited last week on DUI and speeding charges, but for now, he'll be available to play for the Broncos.

  • Nick Chubb RB | HOU

Browns' Nick Chubb: Recovery progressing on track

Browns running backs coach Stump Mitchell said Friday that Chubb (knee) is doing well in his recovery and has attended all team meetings since being placed on injured reserve Oct. 5, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Chubb is two weeks into the expected six-week recovery timetable he was handed after spraining the MCL in his right knee Oct. 4. The 24-year-old has seemingly avoided any setbacks since sustaining the injury, suggesting that fantasy managers can tentatively plan on him returning to action in mid-November. Until Chubb shakes off the injury, Kareem Hunt (ribs) will remain the Browns' clear top backfield weapon.

  • Boston Scott RB | PIT

Eagles' Boston Scott: Primary replacement for Sanders

Scott is expected to handle the bulk of the touches out of the Philadelphia backfield in Thursday's game against the Giants, Mike Kaye of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.

After coach Doug Pederson said Wednesday that top back Miles Sanders (knee) won't play Week 7, Scott is positioned to start for the Eagles, just as he did Week 1, when Sanders was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Corey Clement and Jason Huntley also loom as candidates to see work out of the backfield, though Scott out-snapped Clement by a substantial margin after Sanders left the field in the Week 6 loss to the Ravens (Huntley was inactive). The Giants are allowing the eighth-fewest rushing yards per game (106.5) this season, and Scott is only averaging 3.2 yards per carry through six contests, but a workhorse role could afford the 25-year-old enough opportunities to turn in a serviceable fantasy performance even if he remains inefficient.

  • Joe Mixon RB | HOU

Bengals' Joe Mixon: Misses practice Wednesday

Mixon (foot) was listed as a non-participant at Wednesday's practice, Jay Morrison of The Athletic reports.

The Bengals haven't provided much of an update on the severity of Mixon's foot injury, but a return to practice in any capacity Thursday would brighten his Week 7 playing prospects. If, however, Mixon ends up limited or out this weekend against the Browns, Giovani Bernard would be in line to see added work, with Samaje Perine in line for top backup duties.

  • 49ers' Raheem Mostert: No practice Wednesday

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Mostert (ankle) won't practice Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Mostert has been bit with the injury bug for a second time this season, this time tending to a high left ankle sprain in the aftermath of Sunday's win over the Rams. Shanahan told Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com on Monday that Mostert will "most likely" be placed on injured reserve, but the 49ers have yet to make the transaction official. An IR move would sideline Mostert for at least three games, and with Tevin Coleman (knee) unlikely to be activated from IR this week, San Francisco will again be shorthanded in the backfield. Jerick McKinnon, Jeff Wilson (calf) and JaMycal Hasty are expected to serve as the 49ers' backfield options Sunday in New England.
