• Cardinals' Tony Jones: Elevated for Week 18

  Rotowire Jan 4, 2025

The Cardinals elevated Jones from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday. Jones injured his shoulder during the preseason, which caused him to be let go by the Cardinals in late August with an injury settlement. He signed with Arizona's practice squad Dec. 18, and now that he's on the active roster, the 27-year-old will serve as the Cardinals' No. 3 running back behind Michael Carter and DeeJay Dallas for Sunday's regular-season finale against the 49ers.

• Tony Jones: Joins Cardinals' practice squad

  Rotowire Dec 18, 2024

Arizona signed Jones to its practice squad Wednesday, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Arizona cut Jones from its injured reserve list prior to Week 1 of the regular season, but now he's back with the organization ahead of Week 16. With both Trey Benson (ankle) and Emari Demercado (back) dealing with injuries, it makes sense that the Cardinals are exploring depth options at running back.

• Tony Jones: Gets look from Chicago

  Rotowire Sep 24, 2024

Jones (shoulder) worked out for the Bears on Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jones reached an injury settlement with the Cardinals in August after he injured his shoulder in the team's final preseason game. His workout with Chicago suggests the 26-year-old is healthy and looking to find a new opportunity. With Travis Homer (finger) now on IR, the Bears are on the hunt for running back depth and also brought in Jake Funk and Anthony McFarland for workouts as well.

• Tony Jones: Taken off IR with injury settlement

  Rotowire Aug 30, 2024

The Cardinals removed Jones (shoulder) from the reserve/injured list Friday with an injury settlement, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Jones suffered the shoulder injury in the Cardinals' preseason finale against the Broncos on Sunday. He was set to miss the entire 2024 season after being placed on IR on Tuesday, but the injury settlement will allow him to sign with a team once fully healthy. Jones played in seven regular-season games in 2023 (four with Arizona, three with New Orleans), and he finished the season with 26 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns along with seven catches (on 10 targets) for 37 yards.

• Cardinals' Tony Jones: Lands reserve/future deal with AZ

  Rotowire Jan 8, 2024

The Cardinals signed Jones to a reserve/future contract Monday, Darren Urban of the team's official site reports. Davis is a four-year NFL veteran who has seen action with three different teams, including two stints with New Orleans, over the past two campaigns. He played a prominent role in Weeks 2 and 3 with the Saints this season, tallying 65 yards and two touchdowns on 20 rushes along with 21 yards on four receptions, but he was released two weeks later. Jones subsequently signed with Arizona and spent much of the remainder of the campaign on the practice squad but did see action in three games, carrying five times for 25 yards and adding three catches for 16 yards. He'll have a chance to complete for a spot on the team's roster during training camp this summer.

• Tony Jones: Back on practice squad

  Rotowire Nov 20, 2023

Jones reverted to the Cardinals' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. With Emari Demercado (toe) still sidelined, Jones was the only Arizona running back to get snaps (16 of 61 on offense) and touches (two) behind James Conner's 42 plays and 16 touches for 63 yards from scrimmage Sunday against the Texans. Both of Jones' touches went for 10-plus yards en route to 21 total yards. Meanwhile, Keaontay Ingram was active but didn't play, and newcomer Michael Carter was a healthy scratch. It remains to be seen who may get looks behind Conner on a weekly basis moving forward, but Demercado, Jones and Carter (once he's acclimated) could be the best bets.

• Cardinals' Tony Jones: Moves to active roster

  Rotowire Nov 11, 2023

Jones signed to the Cardinals' practice squad and then was elevated to the active roster Saturday. The team also activated James Conner (knee) on Saturday, making Jones the third healthy running back on the depth chart behind Conner and Keaontay Ingram. Jones was claimed off waivers from the Saints on Oct. 9 and then cut by the Cardinals twice before being brought back. The fourth-year pro has appeared in one game for Arizona this year, carrying the ball three times for two yards and catching two passes for five yards.

• Tony Jones: Back in Arizona

  Rotowire Oct 20, 2023

The Cardinals signed Jones to their practice squad Friday, Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.com reports. Even though Arizona waived Jones just two days ago, they've agreed to bring him back on the team's practice squad. The Cardinals originally picked up the 25-year-old running back off waivers Oct. 9 after New Orleans cut ties with him two days earlier. Jones has recorded 70 rushing yards on 21 attempts with two touchdowns this year, and he'll give Arizona even more running back depth with James Conner (knee) missing multiple games.

• Cardinals' Tony Jones: Sitting out Sunday

  Rotowire Oct 15, 2023

Jones (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's contest at the Rams, Darren Urban of the Cardinals' official site reports. Arizona claimed Jones off waivers last Monday, giving him less than a week to get up to speed with his new offense. In the wake of James Conner (knee) landing on injured reserve, the team instead will roll with Keaontay Ingram, undrafted rookie Emari Demercado and veteran Damien Williams out of its backfield Week 6. Jones' next chance for his first game action with the Cardinals will arrive next Sunday in Seattle.

• Tony Jones: Let go by New Orleans

  Rotowire Oct 7, 2023

The Saints waived Jones on Saturday, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Jones played a prominent role for New Orleans in Weeks 2 and 3, logging over 50 percent of the team's offensive snaps across the two contests and tallying 20 carries for 65 yards and two touchdowns along with four receptions for 21 yards. However, with Alvin Kamara returning from a suspension last week, Jones saw just 10 offensive snaps and didn't receive any handoffs or targets. His departure comes as a bit of a surprise considering Jamaal Williams (hamstring) remains on IR and won't be eligible to return until next week, and it likely means that Kendre Miller will have a firmer role as the Saints' No. 2 back behind Kamara on Sunday against the Patriots.

• Saints' Tony Jones: Likely to have role in Week 3

  Rotowire Sep 22, 2023

Jones will have a role out of the Saints backfield Sunday at Green Bay with Jamaal Williams (hamstring) ruled out for the contest, Stacey Dales of NFL Network reports. Jones stepped in Monday in Carolina when Williams departed in the second quarter with a hamstring injury, turning 12 carries into 34 yards and two touchdowns while failing to gather in either of his targets. While 2.8 YPC is uninspiring, Jones' 5-foot-11, 224-pound stature lends itself to short-yardage and goal-line work, which yielded the aforementioned scores from two yards out on both occasions. Jones will be vying for RB reps with rookie third-round pick Kendre Miller and potentially practice-squad members Kirk Merritt and/or Jordan Mims on Sunday, but the elevated workload likely is a short-term deal considering Alvin Kamara's three-game suspension ends after this weekend.

• Saints' Tony Jones: Inked to active roster

  Rotowire Sep 20, 2023

The Saints signed Jones from their practice squad to the active roster Wednesday, Brooke Kirchhofer of NewOrleans.Football reports. With Alvin Kamara still serving a suspension, the Saints had only two active running backs Week 2 at Carolina. When Jamaal Williams (hamstring) departed in the second quarter, Jones and the versatile Taysom Hill combined to lead the backfield, with the former salvaging his day with two rushing touchdowns. Overall, Jones had 12 carries for just 34 yards (2.8 YPC) and didn't haul in either of his two targets. Now that he's on the active roster and because Williams may miss some time due to his injury, Jones and rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) may be tasked with handling most of the reps out of the backfield during Sunday's contest at Green Bay.

• Saints' Tony Jones: Scores twice after Williams' injury

  Rotowire Sep 18, 2023

Jones rushed 12 times for 34 yards and two touchdowns while failing to catch either of his two targets in Monday's 20-17 win over the Panthers. Jones became the team's lone available running back after Jamaal Williams (hamstring) exited in the second quarter. He took advantage of the opportunity, powering in a two-yard touchdown late in the third quarter to give the Saints a 13-6 lead before adding another two-yard score in the fourth. Rookie Kendre Miller (hamstring) has yet to make his NFL debut and Alvin Kamara has one game remaining on his three-game suspension, so Jones could be the Saints' top backfield option by default Week 3 against the Packers if neither Williams nor Miller are healthy enough to play.

• Saints' Tony Jones: Could see increased usage Monday

  Rotowire Sep 18, 2023

Jones and Jamaal Williams are New Orleans' only two active running backs ahead of Monday's game at Carolina. With regular starter Alvin Kamara still serving a suspension and Kendre Miller (hamstring) and Kirk Merritt (coach's decision) both inactive for Week 2, Jones could be in line to see an uptick in reps against the Panthers. That said, in Week 1, the Saints only gave three carries to running backs not named Williams, so Jones may not carry much fantasy relevance despite his active status.

• Saints' Tony Jones: Active for Monday Night Football

  Rotowire Sep 18, 2023

Jones is active for Monday's matchup against the Panthers. Jones was elevated from the practice squad earlier in the day and will officially suit up versus Carolina. He saw just one rushing attempt in the season opener, but he's the only running back available behind Jamaal Williams on Monday.

• Tony Jones: Gets elevation to active roster

  Rotowire Sep 18, 2023

New Orleans elevated Jones from its practice squad to the 53-man roster ahead of Monday's game at Carolina. It appears Jones is probably going to suit up for a second consecutive game Monday. He saw just one carry in Week 1, and there's not much reason to believe he'll see significantly more work in Week 2 barring an injury to starter Jamaal Williams.
