Nick Chubb RB | HOU
Browns' Nick Chubb: Salvages fantasy day late
Chubb rushed 11 times for 95 yards and a touchdown and secured his only target for three yards in the Browns' 31-21 win over the Texans on Sunday.
Chubb was having an efficient but relatively nondescript day against a vulnerable Texans run defense until he exploded for a 26-yard touchdown run with just under six minutes remaining to give Cleveland some valuable breathing room after Houston had closed to within 24-21. The reduced workload on the ground Sunday was a disappointment for fantasy managers, especially considering Kareem Hunt outpaced Chubb by a pair of carries. That could well prove to be an anomaly based on each player's past usage, as Chubb's fantasy managers will hope is quickly proven out in a Week 3 home battle against the Bears.

David Montgomery RB | HOU
Bears' David Montgomery: Sees heavy volume
Montgomery rushed 20 times for 61 yards and caught three passes for 18 yards in the Bears' 20-17 win over the Bengals on Sunday.
Montgomery was unable to pick up chunks of yardage on most of his runs, which contributed to the Bears not sustaining many long drives. After ceding significant work to Damien Williams last week, the backup only had four touches this week. With 40 touches of his own over the first two weeks of the season, Montgomery will continue to be an excellent weekly fantasy option based on talent and usage.

Michael Carter RB | TEN
Jets' Michael Carter: More involved in Week 2
Carter rushed 11 times for 59 yards and caught two of three targets for 29 yards in Sunday's 25-6 loss to New England.
Carter and Ty Johnson (12 carries for 50 yards) split primary running back duties, with Tevin Coleman (five carries for 24 yards) mixing in. The rookie fourth-round pick is quickly ascending toward the top of New York's backfield depth chart, and Carter has shown some nice burst in the early going. On the other hand, the Jets are unlikely to abandon the committee approach and have produced only 20 points through two games, so it's tough to trust anybody in their offense heading into a Week 3 trip to Denver.

James Robinson RB | NO
Jaguars' James Robinson: Totals 64 yards in defeat
Robinson had 11 carries for 47 yards and caught all three of his targets for 17 yards during Sunday's 23-13 loss to the Broncos.
The Jaguars had an 83-yard drive that resulted in a touchdown to open the game, but the offense managed only 106 yards the rest of the day. Robinson was significantly more involved compared to Week 1 -- when he registered only eight touches -- but his overall role in the offense still was fairly limited. Rookie QB Trevor Lawrence has endured his share of struggles early on, and the running game has taken a backseat in the game plan. No. 2 tailback Carlos Hyde had only two carries and two targets Sunday, leaving Robinson entrenched in the starting role, though his outlook has certainly diminished with only 16 carries for 72 yards and six receptions for 46 yards with zero scores through two games.

Trey Sermon RB | PIT
49ers' Trey Sermon: May have head injury
Sermon was evaluated for a head injury during the fourth quarter of Sunday's win at Philadelphia, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Sermon was called upon when Elijah Mitchell suffered a shoulder injury, but on his first career touch, the former took a shot to the helmet, fumbled the ball and remained on the turf for a spell. Sermon managed to get back to the sideline before he was escorted to the locker room. While it's unclear if Sermon sustained a concussion, the 49ers will come out of Week 2 with injuries littered across the backfield (JaMycal Hasty also hurt his ankle).

JaMycal Hasty RB | NE
49ers' JaMycal Hasty: Suffers ankle injury
Hasty hurt his ankle during Sunday's game at Philadelphia, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
One week after losing starting running back Raheem Mostert for the season with a knee injury, the entire 49ers backfield got banged up in some way Sunday. Hasty himself had nine touches for 59 yards from scrimmage before his departure in the fourth quarter. Meanwhile, new starter Elijah Mitchell notched 19 touches for 53 total yards while tending to a shoulder injury, and Trey Sermon suffered a concussion following the first potential carry of his career, which was nullified because of an Eagles penalty.

Elijah Mitchell RB | PHI
49ers' Elijah Mitchell: Back in Sunday's game
Mitchell (shoulder) returned to Sunday's contest in Philadelphia, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
The 49ers may not have pressed their luck with Mitchell after he was diagnosed with a shoulder injury and deemed questionable to return, but fellow rookie Trey Sermon took a hit to the helmet on his first career carry (which was nullified by an Eagles penalty) and laid on the field for a spell before going to the sideline and eventually the locker room. It appears as if San Francisco will rely on Mitchell and JaMycal Hasty for the remainder of Week 2.

Elijah Mitchell RB | PHI
49ers' Elijah Mitchell: Picks up shoulder injury
Mitchell sustained a shoulder injury during Sunday's game in Philadelphia, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
Mitchell didn't join his teammates for the 49ers' third possession of the second half, instead getting his shoulder looked at by the training staff, per Matt Barrows of The Athletic. If Mitchell is unable to return, he'll finish Week 2 with 14 carries for 32 yards and two catches (on two targets) for 11 yards. JaMycal Hasty took over the primary RB role in Mitchell's absence.

Christian McCaffrey RB | SF
Panthers' Christian McCaffrey: Reenters Sunday's game
McCaffrey (cramps) returned to Sunday's contest against the Saints, David Newton of ESPN.com reports.
A member of the Panthers' training staff stretched out McCaffrey's left calf late in the third quarter before the running back made a visit to the locker room. Now that he's back on the field, he'll continue to work as the team's workhorse RB.

Christian McCaffrey RB | SF
Panthers' Christian McCaffrey: Dealing with cramps
McCaffrey is questionable to return to Sunday's game versus the Saints due to cramping, Jonathan M. Alexander of The Charlotte Observer reports.
McCaffrey was seen attempting to stretch out his left calf with a Panthers trainer late in the third quarter before going to the locker room. While the team does everything possible to get him back on the field, Chuba Hubbard will work as the primary running back for the time being.
