  • Bears' Darrynton Evans: Five touches in win

Evans rushed four times for 18 yards and posted a 14-yard reception in the Bears' 21-20 win against the Browns on Saturday.

With Trestan Ebner (ankle) missing the game, Evans entered the contest with the backups late in the first half. He left the game with an undisclosed injury but returned in the fourth quarter. He's been battling with Ebner for the No. 3 running back role this summer, but if the Bears keep four running backs, he would appear to be in line to make the regular-season roster if he's unable to pass Ebner on the depth chart.

  • Breece Hall RB | NYJ

Jets' Breece Hall: Starting preseason finale

Jets head coach Robert Saleh said Hall, along with the rest of the team's offensive starters, will play at least the first quarter of Sunday's preseason finale against the Giants, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

The Jets are treating the final exhibition game as a dress rehearsal, so it'll be interesting to see how they utilize their rookie second-round pick. Hall has admitted that the pro game has caused him to make some adjustments, but he's "progressing every day."

  • Deon Jackson RB | DET

Colts' Deon Jackson: Impresses in preseason finale

Jackson had four carries for three yards, including a one-yard touchdown, in Saturday's preseason win over Tampa Bay. He also had three receptions on four targets for 34 yards.

With Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines being held out of the preseason finale, it was a surprise that Jackson got the start and played along starting quarterback Matt Ryan. While Jackson had a strong performance, he still may not make the final 53-man roster with Phillip Lindsay likely to win the No. 3 running back role.

  • Browns' D'Ernest Johnson: Logs 32 snaps

Johnson had seven carries for 29 yards in Saturday's preseason finale against Chicago.

Johnson played in all three preseason games and logged his most time Saturday, getting on the field for 32 snaps. As was the case in the first two games, neither Nick Chubb nor Kareem Hunt played, as the Browns got a look at backs further down the depth chart. With quarterback Deshaun Watson set to miss the first 11 games of the season, Cleveland is expected to rely on its depth at running back. There had been speculation about trading Johnson or Hunt for a wide receiver to bolster a lack of proven options behind Amari Cooper, but the need for health and depth at running back might outweigh the luxury of an additional pass catcher.

  • Jerome Ford RB | WAS

Browns' Jerome Ford: Returns kicks Saturday

Ford returned one kickoff for 22 yards in Saturday's preseason finale against the Bears.

Ford did not play a snap on offense, suggesting the Browns have seen enough of the fifth-round draft pick, who was impressive over the first two preseason games. He's an apparent lock to earn a spot at running back, but with a such a crowded position, the Browns could be looking at the rookie as a returner. Jakeem Grant, a wide receiver signed to be the primary returner for punts and kickoffs, suffered an Achilles injury and is expected to miss most, if not all, of the season. In addition to Ford's usage Saturday, Ja'Marcus Bradley and Mike Harley filled return roles during preseason action.

  • Matt Breida RB | SF

Giants' Matt Breida: Back at practice

Breida (undisclosed) returned to team drills this week, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Breida missed the Giants' first two preseason contests, but he recently returned to practice and could see some work in Sunday's preseason finale against the Jets. The veteran running back is expected to back up Saquon Barkley this season, though he's unlikely to be relevant in fantasy unless Barkley is forced to miss time.

  • Commanders' Jaret Patterson: Stars in preseason finale

Patterson took 11 carries for 47 yards and four catches for 45 yards in Saturday's 17-15 preseason loss to Baltimore.

Patterson was busy throughout the night, especially in the first half, while Antonio Gibson, Brian Robinson, J.D. McKissic (groin) and Jonathan Williams all were held out. Patterson, a 2021 UDFA, may end up on the practice squad, but he's shown vision and balance to offset his lack of size and speed, potentially making him a decent depth back in the NFL. There's not much hope for Week 1 touches even if he makes the team.

  • Mike Boone RB | MIA

Broncos' Mike Boone: Impresses in preseason finale

Boone rushed five times for 44 yards and brought in both targets for seven yards in the Broncos' 23-13 preseason win over the Vikings on Saturday night.

Boone put together a strong showing against his former team, starting the game with a flourish with carries of six and 16 yards on two of the Broncos' first three plays. The fifth-year pro appears set to reprise a clear-cut No. 3 role behind Javonte Williams and Melvin Gordon again this coming season, although after averaging 5.5 yards per carry on his 75 career rush attempts, he would ostensibly serve as a quality fill-in if called upon.

  • Cardinals' Darrel Williams: Finds end zone in preseason loss

Williams recorded two rushes for nine yards and a touchdown in Saturday's 26-23 preseason loss to Tennessee.

Williams was the second back on the field behind Eno Benjamin. However, he tallied his first carry of the game at the goal line, and he converted the opportunity for a one-yard touchdown plunge. Williams hasn't gotten much work in the preseason and has potentially slipped behind Benjamin on Arizona's running back depth chart.

  • Ty Chandler RB | NO

Vikings' Ty Chandler: Impressive to close out preseason

Chandler rushed five times for 44 yards and brought in his only target for one yard in the Vikings' 23-13 preseason loss to the Broncos on Saturday night.

The rookie fifth-round pick saw five carries for the third time in as many preseason games, and he finishes the exhibition slate with an ultra-efficient 7.5 yards per carry. The speedy Chandler currently slots behind Kene Nwangwu for the No. 3 running back job, but the North Carolina product may have surpassed his teammate, who is projected to stick on the roster under any circumstance as a kickoff returner, with Saturday's effort.
