  • Aaron Rodgers QB | PIT

    Jets' Aaron Rodgers: Reworks contract

Rodgers agreed to a reworked deal with the Jets on Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Cimini notes that the quarterback is essentially taking a significant pay cut to help out the Jets. Specifically, $33.715 million is set to be trimmed from the $108.715 million he was still owed on his prior deal with Green Bay. Per Cimini, Rodgers' new contract is a two-year, fully guaranteed $75 million pact. Given the terms of the agreement, the chances that Rodgers sticks around in New York for more than one year appear to have increased.

  • Colts' Anthony Richardson: Works behind Minshew

Richardson worked behind Gardner Minshew on Wednesday in the Colts' first practice of training camp, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.

Minshew handled all 15 starting reps during the 11-on-11 portion of practice, while Richardson completed both of his passing attempts in his limited work during the session. Meanwhile, head coach Shane Steichen told Jake Arthur of SI.com that the team plans to implement a rotation of first-team reps between Minshew and Richardson as training camp progresses. Given that the Colts took Richardson fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, he'll eventually claim the starting quarterback job, but the talented rookie will have to compete with Minshew this summer for the team's Week 1 assignment.

  • Colts' Gardner Minshew: Opens camp in starting role

Minshew received all of the first-team reps during Wednesday's practice, but head coach Shane Steichen said that Minshew and Anthony Richardson will rotate on the first team as training camp unfolds, Jake Arthur of SI.com reports.

Minshew completed all four of his passes Wednesday on the first day of camp. Richardson was drafted with the fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft despite being considered a raw prospect, and Minshew's experience has him slightly ahead in the team's quarterback competition at this point. Even so, Indianapolis will likely give the more mobile Richardson plenty of opportunities to seize the starting job before the season begins.

  • Bryce Young QB | CAR

Panthers' Bryce Young: Named No. 1 QB

Head coach Frank Reich named Young the Panthers' No. 1 quarterback on Wednesday, Joe Person of The Athletic reports.

Young, the top overall pick of April's draft, has worked with the first-team offense since the beginning of OTAs, and Reich has now confirmed that Carolina plans for him to start Week 1 against the Falcons over veteran backup Andy Dalton. The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, given that Young clearly represents the Panthers' future at under center and projects as a relatively NFL-ready rookie. Announcing Young as the starter early in camp and giving him plenty of first-team reps throughout the next month will give the Alabama product plenty of time to learn the playbook and build chemistry with wideouts Adam Thielen, DJ Chark, Terrace Marshall and Jonathan Mingo and tight end Hayden Hurst.

  • Sam Ehlinger QB | DEN

Colts' Sam Ehlinger: In competition for starting job

Ehlinger will enter training camp in a competition for the starting quarterback role in Indianapolis, Raven Moore of the Colts' official site reports.

Ehlinger appeared in four games (three starts) last season, producing 573 passing yards and three touchdowns while throwing three interceptions. He enters camp as the third quarterback behind Gardner Minshew and first-round pick Anthony Richardson, making it highly unlikely that he'll emerge from the preseason atop the depth chart.

  • Kyler Murray QB | MIN

Cardinals' Kyler Murray: Starting camp on PUP list

The Cardinals will place Murray (knee) on the active/PUP list Wednesday ahead of training camp, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

The Cardinals continue to exercise caution with Murray, who hasn't yet participated in offseason practices while working his way back from surgery to address a right ACL tear suffered Dec. 12. As such, the quarterback's placement on the PUP list doesn't come as a surprise. Veteran Colt McCoy remains on hand as Arizona's likeliest option to start Week 1 under center, though Murray has expressed optimism about his chances of being available early in the regular season. Murray's placement on the PUP list means he will be eligible to practice and play in the preseason at any point, once healthy enough to do so.

  • Justin Herbert QB | LAC

Chargers' Justin Herbert: Inks long-term extension

The Chargers and Herbert agreed to terms on a five-year, $262.5 million extension Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Herbert's new deal means he's locked in through the 2029 campaign. Through his first three seasons, he's topped 5,000 passing yards on one occasion and 30-plus touchdowns two times, while also rushing for eight scores in 49 games. Herbert is the second-to-last domino to fall in the QB extension market this offseason, with Joe Burrow still yet to get his big payday from the Bengals.

  • Chase Garbers: Let go by Vegas

Garbers was waived by the Raiders on Tuesday. Levi Damien of RaidersWire reports.

Garbers spent most of last season on the team's practice squad after going undrafted out of California. However, he did find his way to the active roster after Jarrett Stidham replaced Derek Carr at quarterback late in the season. He'll now need to earn an opportunity with another franchise.

  • Brock Purdy QB | SF

49ers' Brock Purdy: Not on PUP list, can practice

Purdy (elbow) avoided the PUP list and is eligible to practice at the start of training camp, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The decision suggests Purdy will at least be a limited participant Wednesday when the 49ers hold their first practice of camp. His recovery from UCL surgery in March seems to be progressing a bit faster than initially expected, with GM John Lynch saying Tuesday that Purdy has been "cleared, without restrictions," per David Lombardi of The Athletic. That doesn't necessarily mean Purdy will be a full participant from the jump, but it does suggest he's well on his way to suiting up for Week 1, quite possibly as the 49ers' starting quarterback. Trey Lance and Sam Darnold still figure to get some first-team reps this summer, as Purdy will be on a "pitch count" at first and then needs to convince the 49ers that his solid rookie season wasn't a fluke. Lynch's comments earlier this offseason suggest he's a believer, so all this makes Purdy the continued favorite to start Week 1.

  • Raiders' Jimmy Garoppolo: No training camp restrictions

Coach Josh McDaniels noted Tuesday that there are no restrictions on Garoppolo (foot) to start training camp, Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.com reports.

That said, McDaniels indicated that the Raiders would handle the QB as they would any player coming off an injury, which suggests that Garoppolo's practice reps will be managed to a degree in the coming weeks. The 31-year-old, who signed a three-year, $72.75 million deal with Las Vegas in March, is in line to take over as the team's starting signal-caller following the offseason release of Derek Carr. In the depth mix behind Garoppolo at the onset of training camp are Brian Hoyer, Aidan O'Connell and Chase Garbers.
