Stafford and the Rams agreed on a one-year, $55 million contract extension Thursday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Stafford was set to enter the 2026 campaign in the final year of his two-year, $84 million contract that he signed with Los Angeles ahead of the 2025 season, but he now will be under contract through 2027. The 38-year-old is coming off of an MVP campaign in which he compiled 4,707 passing yards and 46 touchdowns while completing 65 percent of his passes over 17 regular-season contests. His new deal is worth up to $60 million dollars, so Stafford could earn up to $105 million over the next two seasons. The Rams drafted the quarterback's successor in Ty Simpson 13th overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, and Simpson may get a chance to sit behind Stafford for multiple years.

Stafford and the Rams are progressing toward a new contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Stafford may not attend all offseason activities until a new extension is finalized by the sound of things, though Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports that the age-38 QB is present for the start of Los Angeles' voluntary workout program Monday. Of course, with Stafford coming off an MVP season in which he threw a career-high 46 TDs to go with 4,707 passing yards, there's little reason to be concerned about rust. His current deal runs through the 2026 season, though head coach Sean McVay expressed optimism earlier this offseason that Stafford could extend his career beyond this upcoming campaign. Meanwhile, star wideout Puka Nacua is attending voluntary workouts after having checked into a rehab facility in March.

Stafford was named the 2025 Most Valuable Player on Thursday. As expected, Stafford's primary competition for the award was Drake Maye, with only one first-place vote separating the players. It was Stafford's first MVP award, which was well earned after he recorded a career-best 46 touchdowns while turning the ball over only 11 times across 17 regular-season games. While his future was uncertain after being eliminated in the NFC Championship Game by Seattle, Stafford indicated that he will return for the 2026 season during his acceptance speech, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Stafford completed 22 of 35 pass attempts for 374 yards and three touchdowns while adding two carries for 16 yards in Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game. The veteran gunslinger walked into a harsh road environment against the league's stingiest defense in 2025 (17.2 points allowed/game) and twirled a statistical gem despite failing one game short of a Super Bowl appearance. The loss brings Stafford's MVP-caliber campaign to a close, and he finished three postseason contests averaging 312.0 passing yards with six total passing touchdowns to one interception. Stafford was one of the top producers in fantasy this year, as he amassed 4,707 passing yards and a career-high 46 touchdowns in 17 starts during the regular season. The 38-year-old blew past his draft value after a preseason back injury quelled expectations to start his 16th season in the pros. Stafford will likely run it back with the Rams in 2026 for the final year of his current deal with both of his superstar wide receivers (Puka Nacua and Davante Adams) in tow, so he should be a popular pick in fantasy drafts next year.

Stafford completed 20 of 42 pass attempts for 258 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions while losing one yard on a kneel-down in Sunday's 20-17 overtime playoff win against Chicago. Stafford overcame blistery conditions at Soldier Field and threw for over 250 yards for the seventh straight game while navigating his club to an overtime win over the Bears. The 37-year-old coughed up the ball in the snow twice, but neither fumble resulted in a turnover for Los Angeles. Stafford was held without a touchdown for the first time in 19 starts this season, but the MVP candidate played like one in clutch moments while letting the ground game and defense cook Sunday. The Rams will shift their focus to the Seahawks for the NFC Championship Game next Sunday, with the two clubs splitting their regular-season series in 2025. Stafford threw for 587 yards and five touchdowns in those two games, which softens the prospects of having to face Seattle's dominant defense on the road.
