  • Oswald Peraza 2B | LAA

Angels' Oswald Peraza: Exits with bruised hand

Peraza was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rangers with a left hand contusion.

Peraza took a 95-mph fastball off his hand during the sixth inning and was replaced on defense at the start of the seventh. He seems to have escaped the incident with nothing more than a bruise, but the Angels could still keep him on the bench for a day or two while he deals with lingering soreness.

  • Marlins' Heriberto Hernandez: Smashes homer in win

Hernandez went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in the 8-2 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Hernandez extended the lead to 8-2 in the sixth with a crushing long ball to left-center off of Lake Bachar, his first homer in 10 games and 17th on the season. Hernandez had been mired in a 4-for-37 (.108 batting average) slump coming into Wednesday.

  • Griffin Conine RF | MIA

Marlins' Griffin Conine: Reaches base five times in win

Conine went 2-for-2 with a solo home run, a double, three walks and two additional runs scored in Wednesday's 8-2 victory over the Pirates.

Conine reached safely each time he came to the plate Wednesday, with the highlight of his night a towering home run to center field off former Marlin Lake Bachar. The 29-year-old has homered three times in the last three games and has been swinging a hot bat since the All-Star break, posting a 1.025 OPS with eight homers, 15 RBI, 13 runs and 11 walks across 84 plate appearances in that span.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Exits early Wednesday

Perez was removed from Wednesday's game against the Dodgers due to right elbow aggravation.

The severity of Perez's injury remains unknown, but the Royals will take a closer look at him and should provide more information in the near future. Starling Marte could receive more opportunities to work as Kansas City's designated hitter if Perez needs to miss additional time.

  • Janson Junk SP | MIA

Marlins' Janson Junk: Six strong innings in win

Junk (6-7) earned the win Wednesday against Pittsburgh, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out two over six innings.

Wednesday marked Junk's longest start since returning from a shin injury that cost him over a month earlier in the summer. Having worked only three innings due to a rain delay in his prior outing, Junk's arm was lively Wednesday, and he fired 56 of his 81 pitches for strikes. The right-hander now has a 3.83 ERA at home compared to a 5.35 road figure, and he lines up to make his next start against the Phillies next week.

  • Pirates' Carmen Mlodzinski: Routed in loss

Mlodzinski (6-5) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on five hits and three walks over 2.1 innings in an 8-2 loss to the Marlins. He struck out one.

Mlodzinski has only pitched 5.1 innings and has given up nine runs in his first two starts since May 25. With Mitch Keller (arm) shut down for the rest of the season, Mlodzinski clearly hasn't been able to capitalize on the recent pair of starting opportunities that development has afforded him. Despite the consecutive rocky outings, the right-hander is likely to remain in the rotation and make his next start next week versus the Tigers.

  • Spencer Jones CF | NYY

Yankees' Spencer Jones: Raps two doubles in three-RBI game

Jones went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a pair of doubles in Wednesday's 10-5 win over Seattle.

On a night when the Yankees banged out a whopping eight extra-base hits, Jones accounted for two of them out of the No. 3 lineup spot. Luis Garcia has gotten off to a bit of a slow start since joining the Yankees, so it remains to be seen how New York will handle its batting order going forward. Jones has provided some pop while getting on base at a healthy clip but has struggled to hit for average, slashing .218/.312/.403 with five homers, 18 RBI, five stolen bases and 12 runs scored across 141 trips to the plate.

  • Jo Adell RF | CLE

Guardians' Jo Adell: Second home run in Cleveland

Adell went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's win over the Tigers.

Adell slugged the go-ahead homer in the fifth to deep left field off Framber Valdez to give the Guardians a 4-3 lead. The 27-year-old now has hit long balls in back-to-back games, his first two in a Cleveland uniform. Since making his Guardians debut Aug. 4, Adell has a .172/.324/.448 slash line with four RBI and a 10:5 K:BB in 37 plate appearances.

  • Javier Assad RP | CHC

Cubs' Javier Assad: Credited with second save

Assad secured the save against the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk in four innings. He struck out three.

After the Cubs built a 9-5 lead in the sixth inning, Assad closed it out for Chicago on Wednesday to help give other members of the bullpen a respite. The right-hander has a quality 3.59 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 53:21 K:BB with two saves in as many chances over 80.1 innings this season (10 starts), and he should remain a swingman as opposed to a consistent high-leverage option.

  • Angel Martinez LF | CLE

Guardians' Angel Martinez: Three hits in win

Martinez went 3-for-5 with two doubles, an RBI, and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Tigers.

Martinez has now forged a seven-game hitting streak while making a case for more playing time in the Guardians' outfield. He's posted a .393 batting average and 10 RBI over 30 plate appearances during that span. Wednesday's game marked the 24-year-old's first three-hit effort since May 2.
