Burke didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Mariners, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. He struck out five.

It's the third straight start that Burke has failed to make it out of the fifth inning. He's given up 12 runs in 13.1 innings during that span after posting a 2.72 ERA in his first seven outings this year. Overall, Burke is 2-3 with a 4.08 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 46:14 K:BB across 53 innings this season. He'll look to get back on track his next time out, currently scheduled to come next week at home against the Twins.

Ferrer earned the save in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the White Sox, allowing a run on one hit while striking out three in the ninth inning.

Chicago made things interesting in the ninth inning after Randal Grichuk launched a home run off Ferrer to lead off the frame, cutting Seattle's lead to 4-3. However, the left-hander would rebound and strike out the subsequent three batters he faced, sealing a one-run victory and his third save this season. Ferrer, who got the save chance after Andres Munoz pitched in the Mariners' previous two contests, sports a 1.90 ERA with a 1.27 WHIP and 22:3 K:BB across 23.2 innings this season.

Manager Carlos Mendoza said that Tong was scratched from his scheduled start with Triple-A Syracuse on Wednesday because the Mets are contemplating calling him up for this weekend's series in Miami, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.

Considering that Tong was roughed up for seven runs (six earned) over 1.2 innings his last time out for Syracuse on May 14 and maintains a 5.68 ERA on the season for the Triple-A club, any potential promotion this weekend wouldn't be based on merit. Even so, Mendoza suggested that the Mets are still entertaining the idea of bringing Tong aboard mainly to give the pitching staff some extra coverage while New York navigates a stretch of 16 games in as many days. The Mets will wait and see how the final two games of their series in Washington plays out before deciding if he's needed, but if Tong is recalled, he could be deployed as a spot starter or a multi-inning option out of the bullpen this weekend.

Hancock did not factor into the decision in Seattle's 5-4 win over the White Sox on Wednesday. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings.

It's just the third time in 10 starts this year that Hancock was unable to make it through six innings. While he failed to come away with the win Wednesday, Hancock delivered another solid outing overall despite matching a season high with three walks. His ERA sits at 3.07 through 58.2 innings this year with a 1.06 WHIP and 60:13 K:BB. Hancock is tentatively lined up to face the A's on the road his next time out.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Wednesday that Bieber (elbow) could begin pitching in rehab games by the end of next week "if all goes well," Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

The right-hander has been brought along slowly this season after he dealt with some inflammation in his surgically repaired elbow this spring. He's been throwing against live hitters for nearly two weeks, and with Bieber having avoided any setbacks, he appears poised to advance to the final phase of his rehab. He's expected to require four or five minor-league starts before being activated from the 60-day injured list, so he's unlikely to be a realistic option for the Toronto rotation until late June.

Verlander (hip) completed a four-inning, 62-pitch simulated game Wednesday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

In lieu of a rehab assignment, Verlander has remained with the Tigers and has been getting gradually stretched back out through simulated games. The 43-year-old righty has needed more time than expected to recover from left hip inflammation, but he may need to complete just one more sim game before Detroit brings him back from the 60-day injured list around when he's first eligible at the beginning of June. According to Beck, Verlander's fastball velocity sat around 92-to-93 mph during Wednesday's throwing session, putting him a tick or two behind his average velocity during his time with the Giants in 2025.

Castellanos will start in right field and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers.

With Fernando Tatis seeing the bulk of his playing time at second base of late in the absence of Jake Cronenworth (concussion), Castellanos has begun to seize control of a near-everyday role in the corner outfield. The Padres will include him in the lineup Wednesday for the seventh time in nine games.

The Astros are expected to call up Santa from Triple-A Sugar Land, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

It appears Santa will be called up to the majors ahead of the Astros' weekend series against the Cubs in Chicago. The move will bolster an Astros bullpen operating without Bennett Sousa (elbow) and Josh Hader (biceps). Santa has appeared in 18 games in Triple-A this season and has a 1.42 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, two saves and a 24:7 K:BB across 19 innings. His first appearance out of the Astros' bullpen will be his major-league debut.

Kim will start at second base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Kim made his first 24 starts of the season at shortstop, but he's shifted over to the keystone since Mookie Betts returned from the injured list May 11. Los Angeles optioned Alex Freeland to Triple-A Oklahoma City to open up second base for Kim, who will occupy the position Wednesday for the ninth time in the Dodgers' last 10 games. Kim has seen his production tail off in May with a .239/.300/.304 slash line so far this month, so he may need to show some improvement in order to ward off the likes of Santiago Espinal and Miguel Rojas for playing time in the middle infield.

White isn't expected to make his MLB debut anytime soon, Isaac Azout of FishOnFirst.com reports.

With Braxton Garrett being sent down to Triple-A and White getting scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday, it seemed like the Marlins were preparing to promote White to fill the open spot in their rotation. However, the team will instead keep the young lefty in the minors to continue developing after opening the Triple-A season with a 4.34 ERA and 1.48 WHIP through 18.2 innings.
