    Padres' Blake Hunt: Headed back to Triple-A

    Hunt was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

    Hunt will head back to El Paso after Freddy Fermin was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday. Hunt appeared in only two games following his call-up, going 0-for-3 with three strikeouts, and he'll now wait for his next chance to join the big-league club.

    Fermin (concussion) was reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

    Fermin will return to action after missing a little over a week while recovering from a concussion. His not in the starting lineup against Atlanta, but he'll be available off the bench. Blake Hunt was optioned to Triple-A El Paso to make room for Fermin on the major-league roster.

    Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Effective in rehab start

    Flaherty (ankle) tossed 5.2 innings in a rehab start Tuesday with Double-A Erie, giving up two earned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.

    Flaherty thew 83 pitches (58 strikes) in the rehab outing, which may be the only appearance he makes in the minors before returning from the 15-day injured list. The right-hander is eligible to come off the IL on Sunday, and he could be activated that day to start the Tigers' series finale versus the Astros in Detroit.

  • Orioles' Jackson Holliday: Sitting Tuesday

    Holliday (groin) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

    Holliday will remain on the bench for a third straight contest as he nurses groin tightness. Jeremiah Jackson will once again start at second base, and he'll bat ninth Tuesday night.

  • Orioles' Blaze Alexander: Sidelined Tuesday

    Alexander (knee) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

    Alexander was forced to exit Monday's contest against the Angels early with a right knee contusion, and he will now miss at least one additional game as a result. Coby Mayo will draw the start at third base, batting fifth versus Los Angeles.

    Giants' Keaton Winn: Resumes throwing

    Winn (elbow) began a throwing program Monday, Evan Webeck of the California Post reports.

    Monday marked Winn's first time doing any sort of throwing since he landed on the injured list June 14 with a strained right elbow. He'll presumably have to get through several bullpen sessions and rounds of live BP before the Giants begin to think about activating him, but he doesn't appear to be in line for an extended stay on the IL.

    Athletics' Denzel Clarke: Playing catch, taking swings

    Clarke (hamstring) has started to play catch and has also begun a swinging progression, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

    Clarke originally landed on the injured list in April due to a bone bruise in his foot, but he strained his left hamstring while playing in a rehab game in late May. He's still expected to remain sidelined through the All-Star break, though his return to activity is an encouraging sign of progress in his recovery. That said, Henry Bolte has filled in admirably as Clarke's replacement in center field, so the latter may not have much of an impact on the big club once he's activated.

    Phillies' Kyle Schwarber: Scratched with back tightness

    Schwarber was scratched from the lineup for Tuesday's game against Washington due to lower-back tightness, Lochlahn March of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

    Schwarber's back will keep him on the bench to begin Tuesday's contest, and it remains unknown whether he'll have to miss additional games as well. Edmundo Sosa will fill in as the Phillies' designated hitter and bat eighth.

    Angels' Wade Meckler: Resting up Tuesday

    Meckler isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Orioles, Taylor Blake Ward of TheSportingTribune.com reports.

    After going 3-for-14 with six strikeouts across his last four starts, Meckler will retreat to the bench Tuesday while Christian Moore starts in left field, batting seventh.

    Angels' Denzer Guzman: On bench Tuesday

    Guzman isn't in the lineup for Tuesday's game against Baltimore, Taylor Blake Ward of TheSportingTribune.com reports.

    Guzman will take a seat Tuesday after going 0-for-3 with a walk during Monday's series opener. Vaughn Grissom will cover third base and bat second while Guzman rests.
