  • Nationals' Will Dion: Excels in bulk relief again Friday

Dion struck out four and allowed one hit and two walks over three innings in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Marlins. Brad Lord made his third consecutive appearance as a starter but was once again held under three innings, clearing the way for Dion to follow him in bulk relief. Dion has looked sharp in each of his three outings behind Lord, yielding no runs and giving up just two hits while posting a 12:3 K:BB in 10.1 innings during that stretch. The Nationals are likely to eventually get a potential starter in DJ Herz (elbow) back from the 60-day injured list in September, but until that happens, the Lord and Dion tandem could remain in place when the fifth spot in the rotation comes up.

  • Nationals' Will Dion: Stellar in bulk relief

Dion did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Mets, allowing one walk while striking out seven over 4.1 hitless and scoreless innings. Dion entered with two outs in the first inning and dominated the Mets, throwing 41 of 64 pitches for strikes with 11 whiffs. The southpaw has thrived with his new club, firing eight scoreless frames and picking up one win in three appearances since debuting with Washington on Aug. 5. For the year, he owns a 3.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 33:5 K:BB across 27.2 innings between the Guardians and Nationals.

  • Nationals' Will Dion: Collects first MLB win

Dion (1-0) picked up the win Sunday over the Reds, allowing one hit and striking out one in three scoreless relief innings. Brad Lord got the start in a bullpen day for the Nationals and worked the first 2.2 innings before handing a 2-1 lead off to Dion, who shut Cincinnati down over 41 pitches (30 strikes) to earn his first big-league win. Acquired from the Guardians in the Foster Griffin deal, Dion has had a promising adjustment to a full-time relief role in 2026, posting a 52:7 K:BB over 37.1 Triple-A innings and delivering a 3.86 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 26:4 K:BB in his first 14 appearances and 23.1 innings at the top level.

  • Nationals' Will Dion: Recalled from Triple-A

The Nationals recalled Dion from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic reports. Dion was part of a collection of players acquired from the Guardians in Monday's Foster Griffin trade, and he will take Griffin's vacated roster spot. The lefty reliever holds a 4.58 ERA but a promising 25:3 K:BB over 19.2 innings across 12 appearances at the major-league level.

  • Guardians' Will Dion: Back in big leagues

The Guardians recalled Dion from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday. After being sent down to Triple-A on Friday, Dion will now turn around and rejoin the big-league bullpen to make up for the loss of Shawn Armstrong (calf). Dion owns a 5.17 ERA and 1.66 WHIP through 15.2 frames with Cleveland this year and will likely be limited to low-leverage work as long as he's in the majors.

  • Guardians' Will Dion: Optioned to Triple-A

The Guardians optioned Dion to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports. Dion logged three appearances during his most recent stint with the big club, yielding two runs with a 7:0 K:BB over 4.1 innings. He'll be replaced on the roster by Tim Herrin (elbow), who is back from the injured list.
