The shortstop remains mired in a 33-game homer drought, and Lopez's overall production is beginning to sag as well. Through 67 plate appearances in August, he's managed a .222/.254/.254 slash line with two doubles, two steals, four RBI and nine runs in 15 contests.

Cardinals' Quinn Mathews: Sent back to Memphis
The Cardinals optioned Mathews to Triple-A Memphis on Tuesday.
Mathews held the Reds to one run over four innings in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against the Reds. There's not currently room for the left-hander in the Cardinals' rotation, so he'll return to Memphis for now until another opportunity arises.

Trey Mancini: Announces retirement from baseball
Mancini has announced his retirement from professional baseball, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Mancini got back to the majors with the Angels this season for the first time since 2023, going 4-for-13 in five games. The 34-year-old will finish an eight-year big-league career with a .263/.327.448 batting line and 129 home runs.

De La Cruz went 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored in a 6-5 extra-inning win in the second game of Monday's doubleheader against St. Louis. He went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in the matinee.
De La Cruz completed the Reds comeback in the nightcap with a walk-off, run-producing double in the bottom of the 10th inning. It was the first walk-off of the two-time All-Star's career. De La Cruz entered the second game on a 0-for-14 run before singling in the first inning.

Rutschman went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Monday's 11-1 win over Arizona.
Rutschman, who was dropped from third to fifth in the order, snapped an 0-for-19 skid with a sixth-inning double that plated Boston's ninth run. He entered the game having gone 1-for-17 over his first five games in a Red Sox uniform.

Lawlar, who missed the last two months due to a hamstring injury, was activated ahead of Monday's game. He's expected to resume a role as the primary starter in center field.

Fernandez started at third base and went 1-for-3 in Monday's 11-1 loss to the Red Sox.
Fernandez was a late call-up after Arizona placed Ketel Marte (personal) on the restricted list. Without both Marte and Nolan Arenado (torso), the Diamondbacks got by with Ildemaro Vargas at second base and Fernandez at third. The length of Marte's absence is unknown, but Arenado will try to play through his injury and could miss Tuesday's game, per MLB.com.

Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Bounces back to 2B
Vargas started at second base, batted leadoff and went 0-for-4 with a run scored in Monday's 11-1 loss to Boston.
Vargas got the call at second base after the Diamondbacks placed Ketel Marte (personal) on the restricted list. It's unclear how much time Marte will need, but Vargas should step in while the situation plays out. Geraldo Perdomo, who recently took over at leadoff, took Marte's cleanup spot while Vargas ascended to the top of the order.

Athletics' Tommy White: Goes deep again Monday
White went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Monday's 9-5 loss to the Royals.
After launching the first homer of his big-league career Sunday, White left the yard again with a solo shot in the fifth inning. Since debuting July 17, the 23-year-old has slashed .267/.295/.347 with two homers, two doubles, three RBI and 12 runs in 27 contests. White played third base Monday but has also seen action at first base in the absence of Nick Kurtz (thumb).
