  • Ernie Clement 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Returning from one-day absence

Clement (illness) will start at second base and bat seventh in Thursday's contest against the Rays.

Clement was unavailable for Wednesday's game because he was under the weather, but he'll give it a go in Thursday's series finale. The infielder has produced just a .550 OPS so far in August.

  • Brett Bateman CF | TOR

Blue Jays' Brett Bateman: Not in lineup Thursday

Bateman (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Rays.

Bateman had to be removed from Wednesday's game because of right hamstring tightness, so it's not a surprise he's not ready to play in Thursday's afternoon contest. Per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca, an MRI on Bateman's hamstring came back negative, and he could be available off the bench. Myles Straw will handle center field for Toronto.

  • Chase DeLauter RF | CLE

Guardians' Chase DeLauter: Held out again Thursday

DeLauter (hamstring) is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants.

DeLauter tweaked his left hamstring during Sunday's game versus the Padres, and he will now miss a fourth consecutive start. To this point, the Guardians have considered DeLauter day-to-day, but he'll need to improve in a hurry to avoid the injured list.

  • Jo Adell RF | CLE

Guardians' Jo Adell: Out again Thursday

Adell (knee) remains out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Giants.

Adell will miss a second straight start after departing Tuesday's game with left knee soreness. He is considered day-to-day. The Guardians will roll out Steven Kwan, Petey Halpin and Angel Martinez in the outfield for Thursday's series finale.

  • Taylor Walls SS | TB

Rays' Taylor Walls: Absent from lineup

Walls is not in the lineup for Thursday's tilt versus the Blue Jays.

He'll get a day off after starting the first two games of the series. Jorge Mateo will cover shortstop for the Rays in Walls' stead.

  • Ryan Vilade RF | TB

Rays' Ryan Vilade: Exiting starting lineup

Vilade is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays.

Vilade had started three of the past four contests in right field, but he'll take a seat in Thursday's series finale. It will be Jonny DeLuca in right field for the Rays.

  • Liam Hicks C | TB

Rays' Liam Hicks: Absent from Tampa Bay lineup

Hicks is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest versus the Blue Jays.

Hicks started at catcher in each of the last three games, so he will be given some rest during Thursday's afternoon tilt. Nick Fortes will do the catching in the rubber match.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Getting breather Thursday

Suarez is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cardinals.

Suarez will receive a routine day of rest after being in the lineup for each of the previous 16 contests. Elly De La Cruz is getting a designated-hitter day, while Ke'Bryan Hayes will handle third base for the Reds.

  • Masyn Winn SS | STL

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Taking seat Thursday

Winn is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Cincinnati.

Winn has started each of the previous 13 contests, so he will get some rest during Thursday's matinee. JJ Wetherholt will shift over to shortstop, and Bryan Torres will grab a start at second base for the Cardinals.

  • Joe Mantiply RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Joe Mantiply: Begins rehab assignment

Mantiply (knee) began a rehab assignment with Single-A Dunedin on Wednesday, striking out one in a perfect inning.

It was the left-hander's first outing in more than three months, as he's been working his way back from arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. Mantiply will likely need at least a couple more rehab appearances before rejoining the Blue Jays' active roster.
