The Orioles recalled Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk and will have him start Monday's game against the Mariners at Camden Yards.

The 24-year-old righty will be entering the Baltimore rotation as a replacement for right-hander Chris Bassitt (back), who was moved to the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Gibson is up with the Orioles for his fourth stint of the season, after previously turning in a 3.65 ERA, 1.62 WHIP and 5:7 K:BB in 12.1 innings over his first three big-league appearances (two starts).

The Orioles placed Bassitt on the 15-day injured list Monday due to low back discomfort.

Bassitt was lifted early from his last start Wednesday in Boston due to a tight back, but after briefly returning to Baltimore to get examined, he rejoined the Orioles over the weekend for their road series in Toronto. Though the righty appeared to be trending toward taking the hill for his next turn in the rotation Monday versus the Mariners, the Orioles instead have opted to place him on the IL to give him more time to move past the back issue. Trey Gibson was called up from Triple-A Norfolk and will draw the start Monday in place of Bassitt, who will be eligible to return from the IL beginning June 20. Per Matt Weyrich of The Baltimore Sun, manager Craig Albernaz said Bassitt is still "looking at his options" for a treatment plan for the injury and is scheduled to receive a second opinion later this week.

The Cubs claimed Nunez off waivers from the Orioles on Monday.

Nunez will join his third organization in less than a month and his fourth since last year's trade deadline. The hard-throwing reliever has spent all of the 2026 campaign in the minors, collecting a 7.13 ERA and 21:19 K:BB across 17.2 frames. Nunez has been assigned to the Cubs' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate, where he will go through the organization's pitching lab before eventually being assigned to a full-season affiliate, likely Triple-A Iowa.

Marquez (forearm) tossed four scoreless innings in a rehab start for Triple-A El Paso on Sunday, allowing one hit and issuing one walk while striking out two batters.

Sunday marked Marquez's second rehab appearance after landing on the injured list May 3 due to right forearm nerve irritation. The veteran righty has tossed 6.1 scoreless frames and has allowed just two hits while posting a 5:1 K:BB across the pair of minor-league outings. Marquez threw 47 pitches Sunday, sitting at 95.4 mph with his fastball Sunday after averaging 94.2 mph on the pitch before getting hurt. Marquez seems likely to need another rehab outing or two before being activated from the IL, but he could be back with San Diego by the end of June.

Fermin went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's 5-3 victory over the Reds.

After going 3-for-4 with a stolen base and two runs while starting at third base in Saturday's 6-5 win, Fermin remained on the left side of the diamond for the series finale, this time filling in at shortstop for a resting Masyn Winn. Fermin is now slashing an acceptable .250/.312/.381 over 93 plate appearances on the season, but it's difficult to envision him moving out of a utility role unless St. Louis is hit hard by injuries in the infield or outfield.

The Cubs will activate Shaw (back) from the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday's contest in Colorado, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Shaw was sent to the IL a little over two weeks ago with mid-back tightness, but he's ready to rejoin the big club after going 4-for-14 with a 2:2 BB:K over four rehab games with Triple-A Iowa. With Dansby Swanson's ongoing struggles, Shaw could see more playing time than he had been getting before his injury. However, Shaw hasn't exactly pushed for a bigger role himself this season, slashing .242/.291/.400 across 42 games.

Cronenworth (concussion) has been participating in light baseball activities and is "ramping up," per MLB.com.

Cronenworth was hit on the chin by a fastball during a game April 18. He played out the rest of that contest, but after later experiencing concussion symptoms, he landed on the 7-day IL. While Cronenworth has been able to resume taking light swings and watched a game from the dugout Saturday for the first time since being placed on the injured list, the Padres seem intent on having him take his recovery slowly. He'll likely need a minor-league rehab assignment before he's ready to return, and at this point, it appears he won't be activated until at least early July.

The Red Sox are expected to recall Eaton from Triple-A Worcester on Monday, Ari Alexander of 7 News Boston reports.

Eaton is with the team in Tampa Bay ahead of the Red Sox's three-game set versus the Rays. The 29-year-old utility man appeared in 41 games with Boston last season and showed well at the plate, slashing .296/.348/.383 with one home run, four RBI, 16 runs scored, nine stolen bases and a 6:19 BB:K across 90 plate appearances. Though he was previously up with the Red Sox for a brief time in late April, he didn't see any action before being optioned back to Worcester, where he's produced a .798 OPS over 205 plate appearances on the season. Eaton will provide the Red Sox with some added versatility off the bench and could end up seeing regular starts versus left-handed pitching.

Ortiz (wrist) has been sent to the Cardinals' Florida Complex League affiliate to begin a rehab assignment.

Ortiz went down with a wrist injury after just one game earlier this season with Double-A Springfield. He will likely play a few rehab contests with the FCL Cardinals before rejoining Springfield's active roster. Ortiz had a breakout in 2025 between Single-A Palm Beach and High-A Peoria, slashing .300/.416/.462 with 13 home runs, 39 stolen bases and a 67:117 BB:K.

Chapman went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk in Sunday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Cubs.

Chapman drew a walk in the second inning, singled in the fourth and delivered a go-ahead RBI single in the 10th. The veteran third baseman accounted for half of San Francisco's hits Sunday and has now logged three multi-hit performances over the last four games. He's been trending upward of late, slashing .333/.395/.667 with 17 RBI, six runs scored and three home runs across 43 plate appearances in the last 10 outings.
