Peters is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

After Peters started in each of the White Sox's last 10 games, manager Will Venable has elected to give the left-handed-hitting outfielder a breather while the Yankees send southpaw Carlos Rodon to the bump. Peters has been an unsung hero in the White Sox's surprise 38-33 start to the season. While the 26-year-old rookie hasn't provided much in the way of counting statistics with three home runs, four stolen bases, 22 runs and 21 RBI in 68 games, he's produced a strong .294/.352/.450 slash line across 200 plate appearances.

Romo is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

After starting behind the dish in the White Sox's previous two games, Romo will cede catching duties to Edgar Quero on Wednesday. The two backstops are likely to be deployed in a timeshare arrangement until Kyle Teel (knee) is deemed ready to return from the 60-day injured list.

Johnston is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cubs.

It's the first time since mid-April that the left-handed-hitting Johnston is not in the lineup against a right-hander (in this case, Javier Assad). Jake McCarthy and Tyler Freeman will fill the corner outfield spots for the Rockies in the series finale.

Pinango is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

The left-handed-hitting Pinango will be on the bench once again Wednesday while the Red Sox send a lefty starter (Jake Bennett) to the hill for the second straight day. Toronto will roll out a starting outfield of Davis Schneider, Myles Straw and Jesus Sanchez from left to right in the penultimate game of the series.

Lukes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Red Sox.

With southpaw Jake Bennett on the bump for Boston, the left-handed-hitting Lukes will retreat to the bench after he had started each of the last seven games while going 8-for-28 (.286 average) with two runs and one RBI. Toronto will work with a starting outfield of Davis Schneider, Myles Straw and Jesus Sanchez from left to right.

Castro is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Cubs.

Castro had started each of the previous nine games, but he'll get a breather during Wednesday's series finale. Edouard Julien is garnering the start at second base in Castro's stead.

The Mariners optioned Washington High-A Everett on Wednesday.

Likely because of Everett's proximity to Seattle more than anything else, the Mariners opted to call up Washington from High-A ahead of Tuesday's game against the Orioles to provide the club with some emergency outfield depth after Randy Arozarena (hamstring) was placed on the injured list. Washington didn't get the chance to make his MLB debut in the Mariners' 3-1 win and will now head back to Everett after Connor Joe arrived from Triple-A Tacoma to fill the spot on the active roster vacated by Arozarena. Given that he's 26 years old and has produced a modest .674 OPS at the High-A level this season, Washington will likely be designated for assignment the next time Seattle needs to open up a 40-man roster spot.

Fisher will serve as the Blue Jays' opening pitcher for Wednesday's game in Boston, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Max Scherzer had been scheduled to start Wednesday, but after he developed back spasms that resulted in his unexpected placement on the IL, the Blue Jays will pivot to a bullpen game. The opener assignment is a familiar one for Fisher, who has made four of his 36 appearances this season as a starter. He hasn't recorded more than six outs in any of those outings, so he'll likely cover no more than an inning or two before exiting the game. Chad Dallas and Simeon Woods Richardson are on hand as fresh arms capable of covering multiple frames in relief behind Fisher.

The Blue Jays recalled Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Toronto had optioned Dallas to Triple-A on June 5, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club less than two weeks later since Max Scherzer (back) was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Scherzer had been scheduled to start Wednesday's game in Boston, but his move to the IL will prompt the Blue Jays to turn to Braydon Fisher to open the contest. Dallas will be available on five days' rest and could be called upon to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen once Fisher exits the game, though Simeon Woods Richardson also lingers as a fresh arm that Toronto could lean on in bulk relief.

The Blue Jays placed Scherzer on the 15-day injured list Wednesday due to back spasms.

Scherzer had been slated to start Wednesday in Boston, but the Blue Jays instead opted to put him on the shelf after he experienced the back issue when he woke up Monday and didn't respond to treatment as quickly as the team had hoped, per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca. Toronto recalled Chad Dallas from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move, and he could be tasked with covering multiple innings out of the bullpen Wednesday once opening pitcher Braydon Fisher exits the contest. Scherzer's move to the IL comes just one week after the Blue Jays activated him following an absence of nearly seven weeks due to right forearm tendinitis and left ankle inflammation. The transaction is retroactive to Sunday, so Scherzer will be eligible for activation as soon as June 29.
