Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Dealing with foot contusion

Marte was removed in the seventh inning of Wednesday's 5-3 win over the Giants due to a right foot contusion, Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona reports.

Marte was in noticeable discomfort after taking the field in the bottom of the seventh and exited the game with a trainer before the Giants came up to bat. The good news for the second baseman was that X-rays came back negative, and manager Torey Lovullo relayed after Wednesday's game that he believes Marte will be available for Friday's series opener against the Twins. If Marte needs more time to recover, Ildemaro Vargas would be a candidate to start at the keystone.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Muncy is not in the Dodgers' starting lineup against the Rockies on Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Muncy has gone 0-for-7 with a walk and a strikeout in his two games since returning from the 10-day injured list Monday. He'll begin Wednesday's game on the bench while Enrique Hernandez starts at the hot corner and bats ninth against Rockies southpaw Kyle Freeland.

  • Matt Shaw RF | CHC

    Cubs' Matt Shaw: Scratched Wednesday

Shaw was scratched from the lineup ahead of Wednesday's game against Atlanta due to personal reasons, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Shaw will step out of the lineup for a day while he tends to a personal matter. In the meantime, Willi Castro will fill in at the hot corner for Chicago and bat eighth.

  • Padres' Jose Iglesias: X-rays return negative

Iglesias had X-rays on his left hand come back negative but is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The veteran infielder exited Tuesday's contest after being hit by a pitch, but it appears he's avoided a serious injury. Iglesias said he'll be available off the bench Wednesday and should be considered day-to-day.

  • Ryan Ritter 2B | COL

Rockies' Ryan Ritter: Absent from Wednesday's lineup

Ritter (undisclosed) is not in the Rockies' starting lineup against the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Ritter left in the ninth inning of Monday's contest due to an unspecified injury and was withheld from the starting nine Tuesday. Orlando Arcia will start at the keystone and bat ninth in Wednesday's series finale.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Nursing bruised forearm

Contreras was held out of Wednesday's game against the Rangers due to a bruised forearm, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Contreras was initially in the Brewers' starting lineup after taking a pitch off his forearm Tuesday, but the team instead erred on the side of caution and subbed him out for Danny Jansen. Contreras will have an extra day off to rest before Milwaukee returns to play Friday versus St. Louis, at which point the Brewers will re-evaluate him.

  • Michael Busch 1B | CHC

Cubs' Michael Busch: Sitting against Chris Sale

Busch is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Atlanta.

Busch has produced a lowly .549 OPS versus left-handed pitching this season, so he'll head to the bench for the series finale while southpaw Chris Sale takes the hill for Atlanta. Carlos Santana will step in for Busch at first base and will bat fifth.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Exits Wednesday's game

Marte left in the seventh inning of Wednesday's game against the Giants due to a lower-body injury, Jack Sommers of SI.com reports.

Marte was visited by a trainer in the bottom of the seventh and was unable to continue in the contest. He'll undergo further tests to determine the nature and severity of the injury, and an announcement should be made by the Diamondbacks shortly after Wednesday's contest. Ildemaro Vargas has taken over at second base following Marte's exit.

  • Willi Castro 2B | COL

    Cubs' Willi Castro: Idle Wednesday

Castro is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against Atlanta.

Though he could end up getting most of the starts in right field while Kyle Tucker (calf) is on the injured list, Castro will hit the bench after he had been included in the lineup in five of the previous six contests. With Castro taking a seat, the Cubs will open up a spot at designated hitter for Justin Turner, leaving Seiya Suzuki to cover right field.

  • Masyn Winn SS | STL

    Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Sitting Wednesday

Winn (knee) isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Winn is expected to continue to play through a meniscus tear in his right knee that will require surgery during the offseason, but the Cardinals will keep him on the bench Wednesday for a third straight game. Thomas Saggese will start at shortstop for St. Louis while Jose Fermin mans the keystone; meanwhile, Winn will aim to return to the starting nine Friday in Milwaukee.
