  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Back with team Monday

Freeman (personal) has rejoined the Dodgers and could be activated from the restricted list ahead of Monday's game against the Phillies, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Freeman has been away from the Dodgers for the past eight games to be with his wife and his ailing three-year-old son, who was recently diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome. After revealing in a social media post Sunday that his son has been discharged from the hospital and is on the road to recovery, Freeman looks set to rejoin the lineup soon. Freeman will address the media Monday, but the Dodgers haven't yet confirmed that the 34-year-old will be formally activated ahead of the series opener with the Phillies. It's possible that the Dodgers want Freeman to take another day or two to get acclimated to baseball activities before reinstalling him as their everyday first baseman.

  • Pirates' Andrew McCutchen: Appears as pinch hitter

McCutchen (quadriceps) walked in his only plate appearance and scored a run Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

McCutchen was out of the lineup after injuring his quad Saturday night, though his pinch-hit appearance bodes well for him avoiding the injured list. He was also not pinch run for after reaching base and scored from second base on a single.

  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Absent from starting nine again

Gorman is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

For the fifth time in six games, the lefty-hitting Gorman will head to the bench. Though his absence from the lineup against Mets lefty Sean Manaea isn't particularly surprising, the lefty-hitting Gorman looks to be at risk of losing out on starts against righties following the trade-deadline addition of Tommy Pham. With Pham picking up starts in the outfield in both of St. Louis' last two matchups with righties, Gorman was included in the lineup for one of those contests and ceded second base to Brendan Donovan in the other game.

  • Corbin Carroll RF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Sitting against lefty Monday

Carroll is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Cleveland.

Carroll started the Diamondbacks' last two games against left-handed pitching but will take a seat Monday against southpaw Logan Allen. He has logged a hit in 10 of his last 11 games, going 11-for-41 (.268 average) with four triples, two home runs, 11 runs, four RBI and a stolen base during that stretch.

  • Nick Gordon CF | BAL

Marlins' Nick Gordon: Removed from 40-man roster

The Marlins designated Gordon for assignment Monday.

Gordon had recaptured a near-everyday role in the Miami outfield toward the end of July, but he failed to do much with the more consistent playing time. He had submitted a lowly .449 OPS since the All-Star break and had not fared much better on the season, producing a .227/.258/.369 slash line across 275 plate appearances. Since he has the ability to play multiple outfield and infield spots and is under contract at an affordable $900,000 salary, Gordon could draw some interest on the waiver wire from teams looking to bolster their bench, but he's unlikely to see regular at-bats no matter where lands.

  • Alek Thomas CF | LAD

Diamondbacks' Alek Thomas: Taking seat Monday

Thomas is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

The lefty-hitting Thomas will take a seat for the second time in three days as left-hander Logan Allen takes the mound for Cleveland. Jake McCarthy will play center field and bat sixth Monday in Thomas' stead.

  • Joc Pederson DH | TEX

    Diamondbacks' Joc Pederson: Idle Monday

Pederson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians.

Pederson will dodge a matchup with southpaw Logan Allen on Monday, giving way to Ketel Marte at designated hitter. Though the Diamondbacks will continue to shield Pederson from lefties, he'll retain a spot in the heart of the order whenever Arizona faces right-handed pitching.

  • Lars Nootbaar LF | ARI

Cardinals' Lars Nootbaar: Not facing lefty

Nootbaar is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Mets.

The lefty-hitting Nootbaar started in center field against left-hander Justin Steele in Sunday's 6-2 loss to the Cubs, but he'll hit the bench Monday as the Cardinals match up against another southpaw (Sean Manaea). The freshly recalled Victor Scott will pick up the start in center Monday and will be flanked by Tommy Pham in left field and Alec Burleson in right field.

  • Austin Davis RP | SD

Padres' Austin Davis: Back with Friars

Davis agreed to a minor-league contract with the Padres on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Davis elected free agency Saturday after being cast off San Diego's 40-man roster and clearing waivers, but he'll return to the organization on a minor-league deal. The 31-year-old is likely to report to Triple-A El Paso, with whom he's logged a 3.10 ERA across 29 innings this season.

  • Mark Vientos 1B | NYM

    Mets' Mark Vientos: Getting breather

Vientos is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Cardinals.

After making 12 consecutive starts, Vientos will get the night off Monday. Jose Iglesias will fill in for Vientos at the hot corner and bat sixth.
